Updated my asus rt-ax86u firmware to version 3.0.0.4.388.22525.  Lost internet. Asus gui was telling me disconnected ethernet cable between my router and modem(Virgin media super hub 3) or dhcp error. Reset everything. Still no joy. Did a factory reset on the router. Still no internet. Went back to Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22068. Did a factory rest. Internet straight away. Tried to update to the latest firmware again. Lost internet again. Did a factory reset. No internet(Did try 4 different ethernet cables). Went back to Firmware version 3.0.0.4.388.22068. Did a factory reset. Internet straight away again. I think if you have this asus rt-ax86u router and a virgin superhub 3 it be best  to avoid this latest firmware update!

lol too serious guys, just wanted the fastest cables in place for future proofing 🙂
 

Here's some useful articles. Assuming you have a shared drive/folder that all these computers/users can access to save an output file to, and that you have the ability to create GPO's. (Sounds like you can)

It would take a bit longer to parse out the data you receive, but it is certainly doable. Alternatively, I believe SpiceWorks and PDQ inventory can retrieve specs from domain computers without using their pathetic LAN scanners.

Would the installation of software on client machines be out of the question? I've used GLPI and FusionInventory for a mass-scale inventory effort in the past. Client machines contact GLPI with their specs periodically which is then inventoried by FusionInventory. This is different from LANSweeper and SpiceWorks, as the host machine uses remote access to retrieve specs from WMI.

Hmm, gonna give these a try... the current bluetooth drivers for use with Apple mouse and keyboard do not work in Windows 10 via bootcamp on any Mac!

Same here, but for pop up camera as we go bezel less; it'll be interesting on how phone makers will develop a front camera.

After using a phone with a Notch, It does not really bother me at all. You just get used to it after some time.
The only trend I'm worried about is the Motorized camera thingy, I don't like having a pop-up camera at all.

Some failed to realized the notch used to be a bezel, so I don't get why some are complaining about it so much.

What I hate is by default with a fresh install you have to enable allowing the PC to be discoverable just to ping the interface. Heaven forbid you forget to enable it you're bang your head against the wall down the road wondering why you cant ping the NIC from another computer.

You'll get even more funny moments as soon as you/or some admin configures Windows Firewall rulesets with GPO. Then you sit at a customers endpoint, change Firewall Rulesets and they just don't work. They get shown, listed at active but don't get applied due to to Domain GPO Rulesets which totally disable local rulesets.
 
 

i'm running it as main OS on my MacBook... the only thing i noticed so far is that disk utility doesn't want to restore an iso to a usb drive, and Etcher fails too. 

the only thing that's broken for me is WhatsApp not opening because it's not from an identified developer even though i installed it from the App Store.

Not really, the CAT8 cables were really good value (less than £10 for 5 meters) and with the previous CAT5E cables, the NIC connection speeds were 1gig  anyway!  The post was more of an observation as to how much better overall network latency is with the higher category cables ?

For many years, have run a small home network, consisting of the usual stuff, printers, games consoles, NAS, network switch ,Apple TV's, Amazon Fire TV's etc etc
Always like to keep ahead of the game when it comes to overall network and internet speeds.

 
However to my detriment, was still employing CAT5 cabling, which I foolishly thought wouldn't play much of a part in overall network performance...how wrong I was!
Saw a good deal on Amazon the other day and snagged a selection of CAT8 cables for our home.
 
OMG what a difference it made!

 
Game latency vastly improved, overall ping rates and network jitter way down! File transfer speeds maxed out and stable, heck even firing up GlobalProtect VPN (I work remotely on Wednesdays) was much snappier.
 

Discuss... anyone else running CAT7 OR 8 cabling?  Any tips or tricks to tweak networking hardware to take advantage?

I personally think that anybody who has their primary number attached to a cell phone plan is asking for trouble, but again that's just my opinion. I've given up on the whole transferring numbers back in 2012 when I ported my primary phone number to Google Voice, now I can switch SIM cards or pick and choose which of my 3 phones I want to carry with me and still have the same number and people always know how to contact me, not to mention the number rings on my landline which I've changed countless times over the years.
 
I know that was slightly off topic, but in response to your question: No, I don't think people who change their numbers are of lower intelligence but I do think they're equal to those people who go through the trouble of changing their phone number and being stuck with a single phone carrier because of it. Interpret that as you wish.

I've not had any apps removed so I'm not certain, but if you tap the banner (not the refresh icon, but somewhere else on "1 harmful app removed") I believe it gives you more information.

Here's a way I just figured out now:
1- Mount the DMG
2- Right click the drive in DIsk Utility, select "Image from <NAME>"
3- Set format to "read/write" then save
4- Mount the new DMG
5- Rename it in Disk Utility, then unmount to save
6- If you want to keep it read only, repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 while keeping the format as "read only"

It's worth pointing out that the "SuperHub" is just a combined router and switch in 1. Even cheap ISP supplied routers have fairly decent packet switching rates that there should be no discernible difference if any between using the SuperHub or using the Netgear switch for such a small number of ports. Switching packet rate becomes more of a thing when you start getting up to 16+ ports which is why they generally have much faster processors, so they can switch hundres of thousands, or even millions of packets per second. 
 
With those 3 devices you won't see any difference. 
If you're noticing scrubbing slowness it's probably due to the processing power given it's a low powered device. I see a big difference between my HTPC i3 7100 and my Android TV (which also uses the quad core Snapdragon like the FireTV) just due to the power difference of the devices.
