I mean there's a lot of possibility here, considering that its dropped computer. Try to boot with as little things plugged into it as possible, so just boot drive, the CPU fan, GPU, CPU and one of the RAM in alteration. And also check for any dents or chips on any of the boards.

Thanks for the response. I took the Mobo out everything seems fine and tried booting with just the gpu one stick of ram and the gpu still the same behavior.

  2. Please help! I dropped my desktop when moving it and now when I try to start it I get a yellow (DRAM) light immediately and nothing happens.

So far I've reseated my ram, tried different slots, tried a single stick in varied slots. Reseated my CPU multiple times, reseated my GPU multiple times, tried moving it to my other PCIE slot and cleared the cmos. I'm out of ideas any suggestions? I'm afraid I've likely damaged a part and I just am not 100% sure and don't want to just buy stuff and experiment.

My mobo is an Asus Tuf Gaming x-570 plus wifi and I have a Ryzen 5 3600x

  3. In my gaming rig I have used a powerline adapter for years, recently I've been experiencing what I believe to be packet loss while gaming. My Wifi seems stable/strong enough to handle my gaming so I'm thinking of just switching to wifi.

One thing I will however greatly miss my is the ability to wake my computer with Wake on Lan, so I can access my computer remotely.

Is there a way to keep the powerline connection just for LAN access for WoL while using WiFi for everything else?

MOCA I believe isn't an option because from my reading on the subject my DirectTV setup will likely interfere (I'd also rather not spend the money for it) running Ethernet really ain't an option for me either.

Any input would be much appreciate, thanks I'm advance!

There's a project called AutoKey that seems to do most of what AHK does, but the scripting language isn't the same. It uses Python for the scripts, one of the easier languages to learn and use, and there are some scripts out there so you can base yours on.

There is also the possibility that most of what you're trying to do will work with traditional shell scripts. I'm not good enough at BASH scripting to know how to set that up, but someone else on here might.

I checked out Autokey a bit but was scared away by python. But I may have to just bite the bullet and figure it out.

  5. The Linus and Luke Linux challenge made me want to give Linux a go for my day to day use. I installed Pop OS alongside my Windows 10 install on my system to give it a go.

I believe most things I do daily would be possible however, over the years I've become pretty good with AutoHotKey scripts and use them pretty regularly in my day to day workflow as well as for gaming. I've been able to recreate some of my Macros using shell scripts and custom hotkey buttons but there is a lot I haven't figured out how to do yet. For example some of the ones I use will depend on certain applications to be open or will have a different script for a press, double press or long press. Does anyone have any suggestions on how this can be done? Please keep in mind I don't really code I learned AHK over the years but that's about as far as my skill with it go.

Thinkpad T15G, best of both worlds, with an RTX 2070 maxq and i7 10850H, while being in a thinkpad type chassis and also having an RGB keyboard and stuff like that

Not sure if theres a touchscreen option, but theyre 1800$ for a 1080p model with those specs and 16gb of ram which is upgradable.

Basically you have a thinkpad, a formal looking machine, with the specs for decent gaming.

That's quite a sleeper machine thanks. It's funny to see a laptop that still uses the eraser head mouse. Although those are often better than some touch pads, my current laptop included.

Zephyrus G15 or G14 are both great options if you don't need a touch screen or webcam, very powerful and subdued aesthetics for under $2k for most SKUs.

Thank you. Great looking machines for the price. Do you have actual experience with either of them? My current laptop has a touchscreen so which I use probably daily but mostly because the touch pad sucks, would you say the touch pad has decent performance?

  8. Looking for suggestions on a good laptop for work and gaming. I mostly play Path of Exile but sprinkle in some other games periodically. I'd like to keep it under $2000 US but can go a bit over if necessary. I'd like the laptop to not scream GAMING LAPTOP and a touchscreen would be a huge plus but not a requirement.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  9. I'm looking to install a project in my backyard under my patio cover but don't really know where to start. I'd love Suggestions for both the projector and screen. Don't have a real budget in mind at the moment but would prefer not to break the bank. The projector would be used primarily for watching sports, some general tv and the occasional movie.

    Thanks in advance

If you don't mind an interface which looks rather Win7-ish (i.e. kinda outdated) - but is still pretty easy to learn and powerful - then give Claws a go.

Completely free software, support for a proper folder structure and multiple accounts should you want that, and also allows filtering based on a variety of different things. It's really lightweight too.

Main disadvantages are no support for Exchange - though that's hardly surprising, and you may well not need it - as well as the fact that the setup procedure isn't the most intuitive. But you only do that once, and then it works very reliably.

Also, if you or your organisation have an Office 365 license then you can get Outlook, though that might not apply to you.

Thanks for your suggestions. I just don't know if I can handle the oudated UI of either of these haha

Oh... the crash could be due to some corrupt database or cache file used by thunderbird.

After uninstall, you would have to go in Users folder and remove the thunderbird profile or rename it, otherwise if you reinstall thunderbird could reuse the same bad profile.

Another option would be to use a nightly build (beta, may be buggy) of Thunderbird, here's the latest : https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-central/ - scroll down in the list and you'll see installer for windows

usually these nightly builds install in different folders, so they won't read the profiles of original (release) thunderbird, so they should not be affected by anything previous thunderbird did.

I think this is what you are looking for? svchost (18776,R,98) TILEREPOSITORYS-1-5-18: Error -1023 (0xfffffc01) occurred while opening logfile C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database\EDB.log.

Thanks for the suggestion just tried a nightly and got the same issue...

I'd try to fix your issue first before looking into another client, some will use Thunderbird base files and likely have the same problem. Maybe you need to clean out the install folder of Thunderbird after having removed it for a clean install. What exactly is your problem?

I've spent a quite a frustrating amount of time trying to fix it with no solution. I'm not 100% sure what's going on really. It just stopped working the other day, when I try and open it I just get a crash message. I can open it in Safe Mode but a normal start won't work. I've uninstalled disabled all plug-ins, fresh install nothing solved it.

When I fresh install it works fine on first start but once I get my email loaded in it starts crashing again.

  14. I've used Thunderbird for years but for some reason I can't even launch it right now. I've uninstalled, browsed their forums for solutions but nothing has worked (been working on this for a few days now). So I've given up and am looking for an alternative.

Things I absolutely need are support for folders and email rules/filters.

    Thanks in advance.

No. That's pretty much the end of my thoughts.

Actually, one more thing: there are times, like when Microsoft boots straight into Edge and won't let me go anywhere until I set it up, that I am really happy Task Manager is still a thing.

Haha, I can definitely relate to that and I feel like I've resisted trying it out for so long simply because of my disdain for how hard Microsoft tries to shove it in our faces (a-la adding a shortcut in my toolbar with the latest update)

  16. Got sent this WSJ article the other day at work (Sorry for the paywall content....) https://www.wsj.com/articles/quit-chrome-safari-and-edge-are-just-better-browsers-for-you-and-your-computer-11594558801?mod=djemptech_t

but found it a bit interesting and was wondering what others more in the know might be thinking.

I'm currently using Firefox but this article peaked my interest enough to consider making the switch. Have any of you switched? What are your thoughts?

Yeah yeah. Open back is good but these are really good for being closed back. The soundstage is still there. But not as much as the DT 990s.

Also I recommended the 80ohm version because those don't really require an amp. An amp basically amplifies the signal which makes the audio come out louder.

The DT 990 pro are only available in 250ohm. Which I think require an amp.

But why I recommended the 770's is because they got a fun sound especially for like EDM and pop and hiphop music. They work really good for gaming since the imaging is also pretty good.

    TL;DR

DT 770 80ohm are more immersive and fun sounding for gaming and movies than most flat headphones at the same price.

Edit: When I mean fun sounding I meant that the bass is a bit boosted and the treble.

Thanks for the information. I'll try them out.

    Dt 770 pro 80ohm

Thanks for the suggestion. What would you say are the highlights of these over others of a similar price point.

Is closed back the best choice in your opinion for my use case? I see a lot of talk about open/closed back and I'm just not sure what the best direction is I'm not very versed in audio stuff
