  1. If your screen cover is plastic, use a microfiber cloth and a spray bottle with water. For monitors with a glass cover, you can use the same method and can get away with using a little Windex. Most importantly, DO NOT SPRAY DIRECTLY ON THE MONITOR. The liquids could most likely fall to the bottom where they can seep in and damage/kill it.
  2. I figured it out...When you are doing an install of Windows 10, and you plan to use Cortana, make sure your headset or microphone is plugged in first BEFORE you start setup. I didn't do that the last time, and the result is Cortana doesn't work right at all. Should you accidentally forget to plug in your headset/mic, then you'll have to clean install and start over. Cortana is working perfectly now.
  3. It's an SSD. 1 1/2 years old. Tested it and it's an excellent shape. And yes Mail, Calendar...all the apps are working like normal. Edit: I just tried uninstalling the most recent updates to Windows 10 just to see if it was one of them causing the issue - the problem remains. Here is a video of the problem: https://youtu.be/3Ni7vdedqRE
  4. Update: Got a Microsoft Tech to remote access my PC and see if he could figure out what to do. He came up with nothing. The only thing I can figure is that maybe a recent update by have messed up Cortana.
  5. So here is the problem: I reinstalled Windows 10 yesterday because a lot of features weren't working correctly at all- Mail app was slow, apps were hard to load, and Cortana was having a hard time responding to me. After trying and applying every solution I could find online to address the issue, still nothing. So now after the reinstall, everything works fine, except Cortana. Cortana CAN and always does respond to "Hey Cortana", but anything after that, nothing. So she can hear me, but it's limited to just her start phrase. Can anyone offer any ideas on how to fix this? And yes, I have checked my audio controls and levels, they are fine.
  6. Update: never mind guys. I Updated the BIOS and learned that this model does NOT have UFEI. I also learned that you have to insert the flash drive a few moments into starting up the PC. It will NOT work if you insert it before turning the PC on.
  7. I have a Lonovo Thinkstation S20 PC and I'm having trouble getting Bootable USB drives to startup. I have made the USBs Bootable in the correct way, but my PC won't recognize either one of them. They work on my other PC's and Windows 10 loads them without any problems but if I restart and try to start them after powering on the PC, I have nothing. I'm trying to access the UFEI (Lenovo says it DOES have a UFEI menu) but I see no way to do that, and the boot order I changed so that it tries to access the USB boot drive first doesn't do anything either. Can anyone help me with this?
  8. Just finished setting it up on my portable. It's perfect. Thank you.
  9. I have a WD My Passport Ultra, and I want to secure it from prying eyes and thieves (It was almost stolen while I was abroad). I know there is a security program for the drive but it's cumbersome - I can't eject the drive when this program is in use, so I have to either power down the PC or just unplug it. Not favorable at all. So I'm thinking of using BitLocker, but I'm not entirely sure if that would be a good idea.I've never used before, and I'm not sure if it'll do more harm than good. Can anyone suggest or recommend the best way to secure the files on my portable drive?
  10. I have an internal DVD Burner in my PC and its dead. I was wondering what is the best model burner/player for reading different Discs (DVD-R, +R, 8cm Minidisc, etc). I ask because I play my PS1 and PS2 games on my PC. And before you ask, they are legit PS1 & 2 game discs that I've bought and owned over the years, Gamecube too for that matter.
  11. I found out the name of the wireless driver that I am looking for is the Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter, which is nowhere listed in device manager. If I can find that, I think I'm golden. I'm searching on Google now, as dell doesn't have it listed on their site. Edit Fount it, installed it - and still nothing. What the hell? Edit: After running the UFEI Diagnostics, it shows that the Wireless and Bluetooth isn't installed in the machine, so there might be a loose connection, or they are dead and need to be replaced. Edit: I opened up the laptop, removed the card and re-inserted it. It works like a charm now. OS sees it and I can connect to the internet wirelessly.
  12. Did all of that, twice. Still got nothing. The BISO sees that it's on and working but is nowhere to be seen in Windows 10.
  13. I have a Dell Latitude E5520, Windows 10 Pro installed. For some reason, the Wi-Fi won't turn on. I've ran diagnostics and it says everything is fine (But it's not) tried to contact Dell, and was greeted with "Out of Warranty, pay us if you want it fixed" (I'm paraphrasing, btw), So that brings me here. Has anyone ran into this problem before and can anyone suggest anything on how to fix it?
  14. I'm looking for a desktop app. What you recommended is for mobile devices. I'm looking for something for a PC.
  15. Before I begin, the main reason I'm asking is so I can scan QR codes so I can use the Authy Desktop Authenticator. I am well aware of the risks of doing this, and I'm willing to take my chances. So, can anyone recommend Desktop software that isn't tacky or cheesy or might install viruses? Does such software exist? I'm on Windows 10 Pro and I have a Microsoft LifeCam HD-3000 Camera.
  16. I myself use Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. I find that the two compliment each other very well and do a good job of protecting my PC. I would stay away from Avast. The free version I removed from all of my PCs, as it spent more time throwing ads up and trying to buy extra features I don't really need. Did it even when I set it to Silent mode.
  17. Before I begin, I want to say thank you to everyone here for answering my questions about Ubuntu. I'm fairly new to this OS and the support I've been getting from you all has been amazing. So thank you for all the help. With that said: I got an Ubuntu update on the Work PC, and the Grub menu looks weird now - it looks like 2 different versions of Grub, but it's not. The menu works, and everything boots and functions like it should. Is this normal or is this something I should look further into?
  18. Now that I have my dual boot system setup properly on my Work PC, I want to uninstall it from my Home PC, as I'll no longer need it on there. Windows 10 Pro is installed on my SSD and Ubuntu has it's own partition on a secondary HDD. So, how do I uninstall Ubuntu system and keep Windows 10 installed?
  19. I have a unique issue. I have a dual-boot PC, with Windows 10 being the main OS and Ubuntu is the secondary OS I have installed the wrong version of Ubuntu (I'm using the LTS instead of the 17.10.1). So now I need to uninstall it, and I have NO idea where to start. Not worried about losing any data in Ubuntu, but I am concerned with the Windows 10 install. So, what do I do? Can I remove Ubuntu and keep Windows 10 intact?
  20. Excellent! One final question...If I no longer need it, can I remove the feature?
  21. Right now, I have a dual-boot system of Windows 10 Pro (Main OS), and Ubuntu Linux. My question is what benefits can a user get installing bash for Windows? I've asked around, but I've mainly gotten vague answers, a few theories about what you can and can't do, what you kinda can do, etc... I'm looking for people who have actually used and tested and pushed this feature to all its limits, which is why I'm here. The hard facts. So, what can I, if anything, actually do with bash for windows in its current state?
  22. Wow. That's way better than making holes all over it. To Newegg! Thank you for the replies.
