  1. I would like to see Linus try it. I think it would be a fun little experiment.
  2. Is that usually the case when it comes to buying panels on AliExpress?
  3. A panel and a control for a $600 monitor is around $200.
  4. Something like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32965253106.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.77f753d5BKI1yl&algo_pvid=f680a762-e14d-44db-8da7-227adf6e1b00&algo_expid=f680a762-e14d-44db-8da7-227adf6e1b00-0&btsid=19cdb9a9-f49b-423f-b011-e0a3b2c86396&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_8,searchweb201603_52
  5. I got this idea after the DIY monitor video... what if I bought the panel from a 1440p 144hz monitor like the ASUS PG279Q and a control board to go with it. Could I technically make my own gaming monitor just by building my own case and VESA mount for it? Use some aluminum on the inside for the VESA mount and 3D print a case and bezel for it... Has anyone tried this? I'm very tempted because you can get a fully functioning monitor for less than half the price.
  6. unRaid really isn't that good of a hypervisor. It's more designed to be a NAS. I would recommend using VMware ESXi and then running a FreeNAS VM and a game server VM.
  7. Most motherboards and CPUs support virtualization. For CPUs they have to have VT-x. Motherboards should be fine. As long as you have a hypervisor running, you can do VMs. As for hypervisors, I recommend VMware's ESXi.
  8. Build a NAS with Old Server Gear that can be used for other things as well?
  9. Ok cool! Thank you for your help!
  10. Cool so this is kinda overkill unless I want to use it for something else. If I am only going to use it for a NAS, what parts do you recommend? I want to place it in a rack mount case. If I do get a more powerful PC with used Server parts, what else can I use it for?
  11. A NZXT C340 is pretty nice
  12. Well if they do ever fall out from movement. Your computer won’t be running so well. I would recommend plugging them in completely.
  13. Hi LTT Community, I got this idea of using Old Server hardware that one can buy on eBay to build my own NAS. I saw the video on the LTT channel from 3 weeks ago where Linus builds a computer from an Old Server motherboard and used 4 CPUs. I want to do something like that. I might not need 4 CPUs for a NAS. Also, I would want to be able to fit it into a Server Rack Mount Case. Any my help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
