TBH, nothing is really like Android except for Android-x86 and Remix OS, which are literally Android. Ubuntu 17.10 (uses GNOME with custom Dash to Dock extension) probably has the closest mainstream out-of-the-box experience right now. You could probably get closer with some customization if you use KDE instead of GNOME.

Don't do partitioning for Linux with the Windows Disk Manager. The installers that Linux distros use are much better and automatically choose settings that will work for most people. If you already have Windows installed, the automatic configuration will choose a configuration that is good for dual booting. You can also do manual partitioning from the Linux installers if you need to.

The Wifi is just a crap throwaway that I am forced to install because I am building while on a work assignment away from home. The Wifi here is N, so I got the cheapest "quality" I could buy (it was $25).

If I went with Thermalright, I just wouldn't have the same peace of mind. I will never regret choosing Noctua, regardless of price. And besides... baby poop brown - gotta love it!

Something about the Crucial statement hit me funny... and then I realized that I have TWO parts I haven't bought yet - I haven't bought the 850 Evo 1TB SSD yet. Duh. That's the only part I have left to choose, is what I meant to put at the creation of the post. This isn't just a gaming rig. This is a NAS and Smart Home hub, so I may end up going with two or three SSDs in RAID configuration, which would mean going for more storage (10 to 15GB or so) for less $/GB. Can't believe I missed that (and then I was really thrown off by the first comment).

Man, did I lament the RAM choice for a LONG time. I finally realized I needed to just pull the trigger on something - that I would never come up with the "right" answer for Speed vs. CAS latency vs. price vs. capacity vs. aesthetics vs. price (holy shit, these things are expensive) vs. timings vs. what I can get out of an XMP profile vs. what dies are used, etc etc etc. The CAS10 kept calling me... and I have a Titanium mobo - the Dominator are going to look incredible!  Alas, it's a no glass case, but I will know it looks amazing :-)

As for NVME, this will be a Facebook Machine mostly. May as well go with the fastest I can get. Can't afford a U.2 right now, or I'd have gone that route. Some day...

Chuck Comet reacted to MageTank in Formula for comparison of RAM
This formula simply doesn't work because clocks and primary timings tell you very little about actual real world performance. High frequencies and tight primaries mean nothing if tertiary timings are loose enough to the point in which you are losing bandwidth efficiency. Spend less time comparing the clocks and timings, and more time comparing the individual IC's within the kits. If you need resources for finding which IC's are in which kit, there have been strides to find the various IC's each kit has after Ryzen launched. Refer to the page below for information as to which kits have which IC's, and from there, cross reference those IC's against HWbot's memory OCing database to determine which are the best for performance. Right now, Samsung B-Die is king for both AMD and Intel.

A lot of your ram's performance depends entirely on your IMC and board as well. Simply comparing the stats you find on marketing pages for various DIMM's won't give you any real information as to how it's going to perform for your system. You and I can buy the exact same kit of memory at the exact same time from the exact same production line, and still end up with drastically different performance depending on how our IMC and motherboards train the tertiary timings. From the time I spent OCing memory, I can say this: You are better off buying memory that you like (both in terms of price and aesthetics) and overclock the kit manually, rather than relying on any XMP marketing data. You will not only save money, you will end up with a faster system by the end of it.
That formula still doesn't work in the grand scheme of things for the reasons I mentioned above in my post. Frequency / CAS only tells you of absolute potential, it does not tell you what you are actually capable of getting. Tertiary timings dictate bandwidth efficiency, and they are the timings that allow you to actually get close to reaching that potential. They are also entirely dependent on IC quality, board quality (trace topology), and IMC quality.

I just installed. The mounting brackets are curved differently, so I had to swap them out. That was no big deal (just do one side at a time so that the back plate doesn't fall off). This unit is MUCH better than before...

There really is no 'Cyber Monday' or 'Black Friday' anymore.  While Cybermonday was initially a push years ago by online retailers to have a similar consumer drive as the brick and mortar stores had on the Friday, the stores now all have online shops and the online shops now all sell stuff for Black Friday.

It's really just a 4-5 day weekend of sales, some of which vary day to day.  The titles of individual days isn't very relevant.

It wasn't TridentZ... It was HyperX Savage that nobody else is selling. Superfast stuff. The Dominator runs with 10-10-10-28 timing on 2400mHz (which I can easily XMP to 2800 to achieve sub-4nS performance) - better than anything G.Skills offers that I am aware of. The website of the OP had the Savage sticks with the heat spreaders removed. That seemed odd, so I wanted to question. The Dominators match the silver/titanium color scheme of my build, so two reasons there (speed and aesthetics) that make me okay with paying a small premium.

Chuck Comet reacted to loculus in Can air flow be predicted using total CFM ratings?
Okay, so the point is that the numbers are not right because that's not how much air is going to be going in and out, or through the heatsinks. But nevertheless, it seems like you'd probably get positive pressure from these setups depending on fan speeds, if your interest is just in minimizing air coming in where there aren't filters.

You can't confidently plan these things because of all the reasons previously stated. Though with just three fans it's not that hard to predict, usually.
