The Wera was overall one of the worst performers. Would have thought it'd be in the top 5.

I mean...unfortunate sure...but it's a screw driver. It's going to look like that shortly if you actually use it for what it's designed for 😉

Watched optimum tech's latest video a few days ago about 3d printed ducting for the GPU and CPU. I had this idea to do it a while ago but I guess I forgot about it. GPU has gotten quieter and is around 5-6c cooler now without changing any settings. I wonder if removing the GPU fans would make a difference?

Don't think I'll try making one for the CPU as it's already sitting under 50c while gaming. Probably took me 3-4hrs to design and went through about 5 prototypes for each half.

About 3hrs total at 0.18 layer height and normal speed.

Definitely helps with sag. I didn't even realise it was that bad until I was mocking up the prototypes. Like easily over 5mm.
Oh, didn't actually think about that but yeah the gpu shroud does have a decent gap around the heatsink. May look into that when I have the time.

Thank you. I really like the chamfers. I was originally going to use rounded corners but then saw the GPU shroud had chamfered corners.

Not that this will ever happen, but if it did, I think we'd see a different, more petulant side to Linus than we've ever seen before. I don't think he has the chops, or maturity, to stand up to Steve's kind of in depth scrutiny in real time. Linus would end up either moping or rage quitting.

ZERO chill from Steve. Yeah. that response from Linus was not good, at all. Imagine these 2 arguing on this week's WAN show. Linus should have let the CEO handle this as he is no longer the CEO and handled this as a personal attack.

Dang, that GN video is hurting them bad. 20k/21k, like/dislike ratio. Never seen it that bad since I started watching in 2012. This needs to be addressed on the WAN show.

I'm an LMG fan but Steve has very valid points.

I used those 2 speed testers on my tablet via usb dock and it showed the same speeds.

Got it sorted though. Ran a new cable from the router to pc and tablet to test, was getting 266mbps as expected of my plan (250mbps down, 25mbps up). Plugged the new cable to the switch and was getting around 266mbps again. Excellent. Put the old cable back to the switch to test and I was getting around 266mbps again. I have no idea what happened.

    Hi all,

Been kinda out of the loop since the 7700K and want to upgrade, was going to get the 5700X when it came out but it doesn't seem like AMD is making one so now waiting for DDR5 to come out since it looks like it'll be right around the corner. Will next gen CPUs/Mobos use DDR5?

100 meg is on the orange and green pairs only. Gigabit uses all the pairs. Not exactly kosher but in a pinch you can usually get away with 2 100 meg down one cat x cable or 100 meg with a line or two for DSL, POTS, fax or similar.

PoE depending on type can be on those other spare pairs, so can lead to a device that has power but no data or vice versa, data but not it's PoE power (usually find out from a wire map or for some devices can use alternative power option to troubleshoot also). Can also get power and data superimposed over each other like with higher power or gigabit PoE.

Anyway long answer is that the pairs crucial for 100 meg are intact enough and not so far out of spec that they still work.

Might have been chowing down on that tasty brown pair. 🙂

It's surprising what can work and then on the flipside, what doesnt.

    Gigabyte has a statement now:
    https://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/dominic-moass/gigabyte-issues-statement-in-response-to-rtx-3080-3090-capacitor-controversy/

“In response to the recent reports speculating that the use of POSCAP capacitors on the GeForce RTX 3080/3090 graphics cards could lead to stability issues and crashes, we would like to clarify the issue with the following statement:

“It is false that POSCAP capacitors independently could cause a hardware crash. Whether a graphics card is stable or not requires a comprehensive evaluation of the overall circuit and power delivery design, not just the difference in capacitor types. POSCAPs and MLCCs have different characteristics and uses, thus it is not true to assert that one capacitor type is better than the other.

“The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 30 graphics cards are designed in accordance with NVIDIA specifications, and have passed all required testing, thus the product quality is guaranteed. GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 3080/3090 GAMING OC and EAGLE OC series graphics cards use high-quality, low-ESR 470uF SP-CAP capacitors, which meet the specifications set by NVIDIA and provide a total capacity of 2820u in terms of GPU core power, higher than the industry’s average. The cost of SP-CAP capacitors is not lower than that of MLCCs. GIGABYTE values product integrity highly and definitely does not reduce costs by using cheap materials.

“NVIDIA has released a driver (version 456.55) on September 29, 2020 that improves stability. Users are advised to update to the latest driver for optimized performance. For users who encounter power-related issues with GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards, GIGABYTE will provide product replacement, free of charge.

“GIGABYTE has been constantly improving and optimizing product quality, especially in terms of thermal designs, to provide the best gaming experience to the consumers for decades. For the latest AORUS GeForce RTX 30 graphics card series, we have also paid extra attention to the cooling performance and introduced industry-leading solutions such as MAX-Covered Cooling to ensure that the operation of each component is stable.”
