  1. It's not option and the SSD is a Sata AHCI SSD. Weird thing is when I got to advanced\Storage Configuration I see the SSD, just can't choose it as a boot device...
  2. I'm trying to use an old Apple SSD salvaged from a mac pro as a boot drive, I bought this adapter and this one. In the Windows/Linux I can see the drive perfectly fine and use it. I can also boot the ubuntu installer and install the os onto it, but my motherboard (x370 Killer SLI), won't see the drive... Any clue as where to go from here?
  3. The Digi+ I/O has input and output. I've just tried inputting my phone to Desktop MoBo and it works realtime with PulseAudioVolumeControl (though there's a lot of noise). So if there would any perceivable difference with SPDIF to USB and a less powerful machine (though the RPI 4 seems quite fast). I guess the only way is to try? The sound quality of my bose companion 5 is quite good and it's nearly 10 years old now, just wish the input options were more reliable.
  4. My student budget doesn't really allow going all out.
  5. I hope this is the right place to post it? I'm planning on getting a TV with only optical audio out and hooking it up to a 5.1 set (that I already own) that is USB only (well it has AUX but it's not reliable, and I wouldn't be getting 5 channels). So my idea was to get an RPi 3B+ and a HifiBerry Digi+. Then connect the tv to the Digi+ and somehow output the sound from the RPi to the USB speakers. I haven't really found anyone trying this though. would be different to any other DAC setup? Would I be able to configure ALSA via GUI or do I need mess with config files? Cheers if you can steer me in the right direction
  6. Yes, I love Time Machine, won't change soon. At this point idk if it's the samba config or the Avahi-Daemon, cuz I can connect from windows systems or just connecting on my mac via smb://10.0.1.3 Fresh install will have to wait a while
  7. Don't remember, I tried it when it just came out, I got it to compile but getting the services working was the problem. Also back then nobody really offered documentation for 18.04 and samba 4.8
  8. I use mac, linux and windows. samba 4.8 has the fruit extensions needed for apple devices to use Time Machine over SMB (Time Machine over AFP was a shit show).
  9. If nobody comes up with a fix I'll do this in a couple of weeks (exams and stuff)
  10. Yeah it offers 4.7.4 and the devs won't back port cuz they don't deem the features important enough (though I do). So you have to compile newer versions from source. That's downside of non rolling releases, features take long(er) to trickle down.
  11. I needed samba 4.8 which was not going to be back ported to 18.04. that's why I upgraded. I tried compiling from source but couldn't get that working.
  12. Also if I had more time I would put more effort into learning Linux and the services I use better so I can fix these issues when they occur, but uni requires a lot of attention.
  13. Honestly, I'dd love to use FreeNAS and then run my services (UniFi, PiHole, Plex,...) in jails or VMs. But I'm a broke ass student for the time being so I don't have hardware to do that... I know that what I'm doing is sub optimal. Also my important documents are in iCloud Drive and GitHub, the local storage and Backups are for convenience (and restoring from a TimeMachine backup is super convenient).
