  1. I just wanted to thank you Blucyrik for such an easy read and great information. I have searched for the last couple of days for such information and gone through 20-30 guides, but this was the easiest to read and went through all of the little details that one may ask. If there only was a second part - setting up the software and security for all of this as well. I am sure, I can find more guides on the actual software side.
  2. Thank you. So the first setup would actually need a bigger external HDD to just back things up and that would be it? Thank you for the video. Will definitely check that out.
  3. Hey! A few days on Google have given me a lot of new information and technical terms, which I do not yet quite understand, and because of this I would like some expert help to do the right choice. I need 2 setups, which are a bit different in my mind, but I would like to as your help on what should I choose and how should everything be setup. Here it goes: Sorry for the huge wall of text in advance. Setup I I have a family member who has a lot of files stored, mainly videos and photos, which date back 35 years and I would like them keep everything safe, because these memories are valuable. They currently have a 2TB drive in the computer, which is full, an external 2TB, which is almost full and works a bit for backup, plus other stuff and now they bought a new 4TB drive, which should be inside of the computer for backup and new files, but it seems that is not working out very well, because the computer is quite old, so it acts as an external drive. To me it seems that they have a lot of files just laying around in different discs, which all could fail at some point and then it is over. I am imagining they would need a NAS, to just make sure that everything is safe and acts as a storage, because they are older people and technicality is not their forte. In this case, what setup would they need? Could you please give me a few options or the best option to choose? Money-wise, I would hope it stays somewhere below $500. Setup II This home server or NAS system would be for myself. I am quite good around computers, built several for myself and for friends as well, but all of those new terms I have seen the last few days made me ask for help to make the right choice. I currently have a 1TB and a 500GB drive in two different computers, which act as data drives in those computers. They both are half full. Mostly, I would need a system to gather everything under one roof for storage and backup. Those files are mainly photos and I plan to add a lot more to the collection in the coming years. Also, I would like to have my other media (movies) on it and access them through TV. It would be fantastic, if all of this could be accessed remotely as well via internet. I currently have a 50/50 internet, but can go up to 300/300 if needed. However, my first choice would be security, so I am not so sure how the online thing would pan out. In this case, what setup would they need? I am very tempted to try my own server stuff + would like to be able to upgrade as I go. If home server is the way to go, what software should I use to be most secure, but versatile at the same time? Could you please give me a few options or the best option to choose? Could you also let me know why, the things you have chosen, would have to be in the system and describe any terms you use? I would be most grateful. Money-wise, I would hope to stay between $500 - $750, but we can go up to $1000 to make sure I have a storage system which can be accessed by several computers + TV and also a backup system in another physical location. Thank you!
