  1. Hello! I recently started putting together a build and everything is just about fine except... the CPU connector won't fit? Only one side does. Is this normal? Could I get away with that or do I need a new power supply or motherboard? Parts involved: CPU: Ryzen 5 1600x (95w) Motherboard: https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-b450m-ds3h/p/N82E16813145083?Item=N82E16813145083 Power supply: https://www.newegg.com/evga-100-w1-500-kr-500w/p/N82E16817438016?Item=N82E16817438016
  2. Ooh welp I guess I'm doing that then, thanks
  3. woah that's not nearly sketchy enough for me anyway this laptop isn't going to be moved or anything once the job is done and I just need a quick fix
  4. Hello! Please excuse me if this is a dumb question, I don't know too much when it comes to electronics, but I was wondering since this charger port broke and since we don't use the laptop anywhere away from a port if I could just take out the port, take off the end of the original charger and solder (well actually just twist them together and tape them) the wires together to complete the connection. Is there anything that could go wrong with this? Is this even possible at all? (Sorry for the bad quality photos I was using a camcorder, also that gunk on the charger is super glue used as a temporary fix before it completely stopped working... oh and yes that super thin bent back piece of metal was formerly there to hold the port in place)
  5. Ooh okay thank you... wow I'm dumb
  6. Okay, so I am not super technically advanced - I can build a computer, but if I did I probably wouldn't be able to troubleshoot much on my own. I don't have too much experience with this stuff, so if I'm being dumb feel free to call me out on it. I recently bought a Motile brand laptop online from Walmart listed as having 8 GB of RAM. Well... when I got the laptop it said it had 6 GB. Okay... so I returned it thinking it was just a mistake or something. I got a new one and... same issue. I don't know if the system is using it and I'm being stupid or something, if there actually isn't 8 GB installed or if it isn't installed properly. It's even named 8 GB. Does anyone know anything about this?
  7. I used the Windows built-in feature Weird, I do not know how to do this. I will look it up but doesn't that also erase your OS? I haven't, will now I know just as much as you do but I think so
  8. Ah alright, marking this as solved, I will try out several things ( @LukeSavenije's, @GoldenLag advice on the used market and such and I am going to probably aim to get @MeatFeastManand / or @BigRom's spec list and such) Thank you all! Didn't expect that many replies hahaha
  9. I am going to try that out - would newegg or amazon be a better place to get a used desktop?
  10. On this setup I get bottlenecked by my CPU because of the low clock speed, but it ran fine at 60+ FPS at 1080p on the highest settings
  11. Okay, I see. I will try and get an AMD processor since getting a GPU might be out of the question if I am mistaken for $300
  12. Might try that! Thank you so much for the recommendation, I might be able to save up that much by then. Seems nice for the price, but I have never experienced an AMD cpu integrated graphics system. How good is it? Just about as good as intel's?
  13. Used prebuilt? That would be cool especially if it's cheaper, I might look into it but we live in a suburb near Chicago and computers aren't often for sale around here. I will try using newegg though, thank you for the recommendation.
  14. Yeah, maybe a bit before then. We don't need this setup for more than youtube, minecraft and such. Maybe recording while playing minecraft but that's it.
  15. Hello! I am very new to building PCs and I am looking into building my second one. My father helped me out with my first one a while back but parts have changed and things have become more demanding. I am looking for a setup around $250 for my 12-year-old friend (next Christmas) who really wants a PC for Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite, etc. (willing to go 720 - we prefer 1080p but if needed for 60 FPS for the price range then we will go with it) Willing to use an unactivated copy of windows or a grey market one (windows does not have to be included in the price). It might also be used for recording while playing games, so a bit of headroom would be nice. I considered this setup but I am not sure. (USD, mouse and keyboard not needed) CPU | AMD Athlon 240GE | $77 | 2 cores, 3.5 GHz (nice clock speed, but would prefer a quad-core... this might do though) | https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Athlon-Graphics-Processor-YD240GC6FBBOX/dp/B07L9Q7DLQ/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_2?keywords=AMD+athlon+240GE&qid=1554274937&s=gateway&sr=8-2-fkmrnull GPU | GT 1030 (not low profile I don't think) | $90 | 2GB of GDDR5 64 bit memory | https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GV-N1030OC-2GI-Nvidia-GeForce-Graphics/dp/B07646VQ6T/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=gt+1030&qid=1554275088&s=gateway&sr=8-1 RAM | 8 GB of DDR4 | $40 | https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232722&Description=RAM&cm_re=RAM-_-20-232-722-_-Product Motherboard, other stuff | Undecided Note: If you are more experienced than I am (almost no experience building PCs) you do not have to work off of this list - I prefer Intel builds but it doesn't matter if AMD's processors are cheaper and more efficient. RGB not needed if it adds to the cost, we do not care about that. If you need any more info please let me know.
  16. Hello! So my brother is having problems with his laptop. He's 12 and I am 15, we don't know too much about tech (I know how to build a computer and such and troubleshoot a lot, but when it comes to software I am about as useful as your grandma is for the most part) and for some reason his function key isn't functioning properly ? We tried getting the Samsung easy installer or something like that from the official site (most download links were dead, had to get a random direct link) but we tried running the setup, the program was granted administrator permission and ... it opened and then immediately closed. So yeah, we really don't know what to do. Here's the setup and what it comes up as in Minecraft when he presses the key if for some reason that might help. I am able to provide any more info you guys might need. This happened after we reset the computer (it was inactive for a couple of years, couldn't find a charger for it because it wouldn't turn on and the product name was worn off of the bottom of the laptop)
  17. Hello! So I bought xSplit for 3 months and it works totally fine, 1080p 60fps while streaming and playing Overwatch at 1080p max settings. I really wanted a free solution, so I tried OBS. I tried pretty much the same settings (lower bitrate at 6mbps) and it kept dropping frames and the stream would lag out quite often. Only when I set it to Low settings in overwatch and 480p 24fps stream quality at 1.2mbps did it barely drop frames and freeze. I tried xSplit again at 1080p 60fps 10mbps with max settings on overwatch AGAIN and it worked! No clue what's going on... help!? If the image does not work or you want more specific specs, look here
  18. I don't get people who think 1080p sucks... I mean, I have a 4k TV, but if I switched to 1080p I wouldn't mind, if I even notice the difference. Anyway, not all kids are idiots, just the majority
  19. Can't even get it to ship from a store like Amazon?
  20. Core count does help with tasks like editing and 3D modeling with Blender, which I will be doing.
