  1. When I'm using my gaming rig for mining it never goes above 470W. Thats running a 7700k @ 5Ghz, a (1080ti running at +191 core clock and +865 mem clock) in afterburner and a (1050ti running at +225 core clock and +1000 mem clock) in afterburner.
  2. if you have to ask this question you need to buy one high end cpu.
  3. If dual CPUs was a thing other than WORKloads, everybody would be doing it.
  4. Watch newegg. I got a good one from there 3 weeks ago for $319. Might as well get em before they go higher, prices won't be dropping for a year or more.
  5. Only problem oiling it will be it catching dust inside and it sticking to the innards. wont hurt it otherwise.
  6. On our machines at work, some of the controller boards still use 80186 chips and we still have some Pentium III servers on XP. they run fine still after 25+ years.
  7. Look at the Zalman T5. I just bought one for my bedroom htpc I'm building. haven't gotten it yet though. its a low power system so im only going to use intake fans on the side panel.
  8. Also Intel has a new 9260NGW that is even faster at 1.73gbps.
  9. Buy an Intel 8265NGW and an antenna kit off Amazon or eBay. I use them in my desktop and laptops as upgrades to 866mhz throughput. I have one in my z270 extreme4 board. it's the same as yours in that respect. you will need the small wires from the card to the mono back panel. I can't remember the type.
  10. She's way into it. Just thought it wa relevant.
  11. Why don't some old "new hardware" prices drop after a new version comes out. for example 6700k prices didn't drop when 7700ks came out. 7700k prices didn't drop when 8700k came out. I see video cards do somewhat (mining thing aside) but CPUS never seem to. why right now on newegg is a 6700k $359.00 a 7700k $339 yet an 8700k (with shortage) is $419 when the 7700k is way ahead of the 6700k and the 8700k is a hundred miles ahead of either? Seems to me at this point based on a $419 8700k price, a 7700k should be about $280 and a 6700k about $220 or so. least thats how it normally works in the rest of the world.
  12. I have two big dogs who are outside any time I'm not home. so they bring in dirt. my old 2600k system lived on the floor for 6 years and I had no problems if i kept up with the dust filters, tho even with that every 3 or 4 months I had to take it all apart and blow it out with the air compressor. my 7700k system I built it in a HTPC case and it sits on the desk by the monitor. but i have a huge desk. I have one of those old steelcase desks from the 80's and it's got a 38'x78' top on it. I also am using a 40" 4k tv as my monitor. I have some polk speakers for sound that are wall mounted aside the monitor. A wall mount for the screen is on the way. I'd send a pic but I broke my phone and am waiting on a new one and the old one takes crap pics. my bit of advice is, if you have pets and its on the floor, no windows. you'll hate them if you have them. I had a clear panel for my old case and i got rid of it and got the solid steel panel instead. the plastic window makes static electricity, so dust and dog hair are attracted to it. ideally, glass cases are for desktops/etc or hardwood floors especially if you have pets. it can be done, but depends on how much you want to work for it to keep it clean. in a non pet house, shouldnt matter too much, there's not too much more dust 1 foot off the ground as there is 3 foot off the ground.
