Be careful of the flame wars. We've not had enough of PC vs consoles yet?

There's a rule I follow... If they have to claim quality in the title, stay away from it.

JustAGuy reacted to tom564 in David Cameron wants to ban encryption
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jan/12/uk-spy-agencies-need-more-powers-says-cameron-paris-attacks
So it looks like Cameron wants to make it illegal for any encrypted communication to happen without the government being able to intercept and view the content provided they have a valid warrant (which we all know they follow..) This would make using encryption such as PGP illegal and could even result in company's like apple having to redesign their OS for the UK market.
Some problems I see:
1. Governments can and will abuse power
2. Banning encryption could result in weaker overall security, the current security situation is terrible when it comes to encryption and imposing tough restrictions in the use of crypto could result in even less implementation meaning that anyone could intercept the plain text data
3. apps like snapchat / whatsapp that use encryption could become illegal to use as company's would have to adapt their app for use in the UK and could prevent international use
4. It doesn't solve the problem, "The attacks in Paris demonstrated the scale of the threat that we face and the need to have robust powers through our intelligence and security agencies in order to keep our people safe." even if they had this power unless they were actively surveying the suspects they wouldn't of stopped the attack.
What do you guys think?

JustAGuy reacted to soaringchicken in Desktop vs Laptops
No, the desktop will be better due to the fact that mobile components use "M" rated components that stand for mobile. Which means lower clock speeds due to heat output and size restriction

JustAGuy reacted to Fred Castellum in What’s the worst part of your rig?
Everything is being bottlenecked by a GTX 460 that has lifetime warranty. And I can't seem to fry the card to take advantage of the warranty..... embarrassing I know...

JustAGuy got a reaction from Tedster in Enough Clearance? Cooler Master Elite 110
Thanks, I actually forgot PcPartPicker can do that. What I'm worried about is that the stock heat sink might interfere with the power supply.

JustAGuy reacted to Archangel1994 in Which controller should I get?
Xbox controller without a shadow of a doubt. It's a perfect fit for your hands whereas the PS3 controller is much too much and there's barely anything to grip

If it's "free" it will probably be "ad supported". Nothing is really "free".

JustAGuy reacted to L.E.D in Best Video Editing Software to start with?
To start learning enterprise grade software, get your self a trial of Vegas, then move onto Adobe Premiere. These are both payed applications but you can get trials of them, there is also a 'free' way of doing it but we don't speak of that here.

JustAGuy reacted to Archangel1994 in Won't turbo boost?
It only goes to the turbo boost frequency when it actually needs to. If it does not then it will not go to said turbo frequency otherwise it is just wasting power.

JustAGuy reacted to Akolyte in Experiences with non-techies
Once my friend wanted to build a computer, but he thought he was so smart he picked out all the parts himself. He wanted a green build, so he got:
A gigabyte sniper motherboard.
A Intel core i3
A Nvidia Titan
A WD green 2TB
4GB of DDR3 1600mhz RAM
He didn't build it at least, I talked him out of it.

False.
There's zero reason to buy an i7 for gaming. Absolutely none.

JustAGuy reacted to terrytek in Experiences with non-techies
It sucks when parents have a techie child and refer to me for tech support. Then they pressure you to get the right answer, even if you don't know.
So, I was helping my dad replace a hard drive in his computer. It was a huge pain.
Me: So the first thing you do is unplug the hard drive.
Dad: Ok, how?
Me: Just unplug the data cable from the hard drive. Then the power cable.
Dad: This one? *points to Molex connector*
Me: No.
Dad: *points to floppy power*
Me: NOOOO.
Dad: Screw this. You do it. Get that hard drive in within half an hour or else you get spanked.
Me: WHAT?? WHY? A BIT HARSH THERE.
For God's sake, why? I mean, he didn't know how to install a simple hard drive? I mean, he works for SEAGATE!!!!!!

JustAGuy reacted to Jeffee in Experiences with non-techies
My mom is one of those people that doesn't care to learn the simple things so if something is wrong she assumes its a virus or the site is broken and I get summoned. Fix w/e it is and then she talks to her friends as if I'm some kind of god. Its kinda embarrassing the way she talks about it and I'm there with them starring at me.
