Dragonzeanse got a reaction from zonahbear in How to request headphones
I've noticed that a lot of people have been posting threads asking for which headphones they want. However, they often make it a little difficult to pinpoint what to recommend because they don't give enough details. I've decided to make this thread to give people something of a form to fill out - criteria that they should meet so that people can give them the best advice.

Budget: How much money are you willing to spend on headphones? Always list a maximum. Minimum is optional. Location: Headphone availability varies wildly across different regions. List where you're from. Form factor: Circumaural (around-ear), supra-aural (on-ear), or in-ear. Optional; just list which ones you prefer, if any. In-ear monitors generally provide the best isolation of any headphones. Open or closed: Some headphones are designed open-back and others are designed closed-back. Open headphones provide a greater soundstage and might "sound better" to the general user, but offer very poor isolation and are more susceptible to sound leakage. Closed headphones are the opposite, but can still have a really good soundstage. Open headphones are good for home or office use. In environments like commuting, noisy offices, or tightly-clustered rooms, closed headphones reign superior. Usage: Will you be using these for gaming, watching movies, listening to music, or a combination of any of those three? List whatever you plan to use these headphones for. Some headphones that are great for gaming might not be good for listening to music, and vice versa. Music: What kind of genres do you listen to? Electronic, rap, rock, metal, classical, etc.? List these so that people know what kind of headphones to recommend. Some have a more flat response than others, and might sound better for classical music, whereas headphones with a V-shaped or bassy sound signature are better suited to electronic music. Rock and metal music can go either way depending on the user's preference. Sound signature: If you want to be more specific than above, list what kind of sound signature you want from your headphones (warm/dark, v-shaped, bassy, neutral, bright, etc.) You can find a glossary for each of these sound signatures here.
If you are considering a headset, please read this thread. Though much of the community has a bias against gaming headsets, do not let that dissuade your purchasing decision. Some good headsets exist. Nobody should flame you for your decision.

In some cases, you may require an amplifier in order to drive your headphones. A general rule of thumb to see if a pair of headphones requires an amp is to refer to its impedance. If it's a 320Ω pair, chances are it needs an amplifier (not always true, however). Each set of headphones is different, so the person recommending should suggest such a thing. If you explicitly don't want to have to buy an amplifier, make note of this. It's important.

I imagine you can't give a thousand blowjobs without getting slightly better at it, so fair enough. If anyone can make an aggressive entry, Intel probably could.

This is one of the reasons I've begun to think twice about purchasing from AMD. They ride the hype train far more than any other company I've seen accused of it - both Nvidia and Intel. Disagree if you will.

I honestly had to laugh at the "OEM" Sennheiser HD 598. You meant to tell me a headphone store was actually selling a counterfeit Sennheiser? I can only imagine they aren't an authorized reseller.

It is an improvement over the old Asha OS (feature phones) because app developers were not giving support to Asha OS/Symbian so they said hey android is popular, lets port it to our phones, so now you have this X series that sits between lumia's and asha's and gives you the latest apps but in a controlled ecosystem that will not make microsoft angry.

But of course because it is android underneath you can side load any app and in most cases it should work and now developers are rooting these phones and as you said even giving them google play support even though they don't support it like the amazon kindle's.

Anyways they are low end phones for emerging markets, so Android enthusiast should not buy it.

Oh and your pov is very us-centric, the moto x and nexus 5 are NOT cheap phones, the nokia x series is not the cheapest but at least you are getting something better than asha but cheaper than lumia while having a pretty good selection of apps and games. In that point however it is not far off the price of the moto g that gets you full android and better specs for not that much more money.

The V-moda's pads were surprisingly very soft. My only problem with them are the cups are a bit small for my liking but they are a great value since you can get them for pretty cheap used.

In an office environment, Philips Fidelio L1s would be great. They're semi-open, not closed, but they should isolate just well enough for an office as opposed to a noisy commute. Creative Aurvana Live! are good headphones too, but also have poor isolation - again, not such a big deal if she's only going to use them in an office. If isolation is key, then Sennheiser HD 429 and Philips CitiScape Uptown are two good pairs. While I normally would recommend Sony MDR-V6s, those sound better for rock and metal than they do for electronic music. They have a neutral sound but not too neutral. Fidelio L1, Aurvana Live, HD 429, and CitiScape Uptown all deliver good bass. Aurvana Live and Uptowns have a v- or u-shaped sound signature (that means emphasis on bass and treble) so I think your girlfriend would like either or.

If your budget is flexible, L1s are my top pick.

On topic: Since when did our government get this openly evil? I know the tinfoil-hats have been saying this for years, but I can't believe that the government is now pretty much openly saying that they're going to trample over your rights to privacy by using shady trickery and vague loopholes in the law. All for the purpose of "catching the bad guys"... Right...
Am I missing something or is Obama doing pretty much the exact opposite of what he originally campaigned on?
