Hi everyone i'm looking to maybe upgrade my z87x oc from gigabyte to the x79 platform. this is mostly because i want the increased core count. my question however is, can i overclock xeons on x79? i dont care if i have to change the microcode and stuff. i cant really find a definitive answer. Jan

Thanks a lot man! I'll tell him

30% fan speed is quite low under load, did you ever take the card apart?
-
He also said he heard a high pitched beep through his headset (not coming from the system). Happen to know if that means anything?
-
The gpu drivers are alright, I'm a bit scared of trying my own gpu. And ripping my powersupply out of my own PC is a bit of a hassle but I could definitely try it.
-
On what side?
-
Yeah, I get it but here's the thing. He got a new PC. In one week the gpu wouldn't give a signal. After long troubleshooting we settled on a replacement card. Then he's got that card 1 week and exactly the same thing happens. Isn't that a bit weird? Because when he inserted the new card the system worked again.

The problem is that I don't live near him and I don't have spare parts to try, do you happen to know if a bad psu can kill a gpu over time or if it'll always be instantly
-
Hi everyone. some time ago (3 weeks) I build a PC for a friend, at first it worked alright, but then suddenly he didn't get signal from his gpu. Because he uses am4 r5 2600 there is no igpu to make troubleshooting easy, we did it anyways. Eventually he ended up returning his gpu for a new one, in one week this one died as well, does anyone have advice on possible reason? I'm thinking it might be the power supply. Voltage locked to 1.250v on HD 7950 windforce 3 v2
JanMan replied to JanMan's topic in Graphics Cards
I am currently running an HD 7970 bios, it has higher base clocks and gives me 6mvolt more, but my temps are still so low, I just hate that I haven't unlocked the full potential -
Voltage locked to 1.250v on HD 7950 windforce 3 v2
JanMan replied to JanMan's topic in Graphics Cards
I am running stable at 1,256v, what do you mean by killing the gpu? Temperature wise or because of voltage spikes or something? -
hi everyone, i have a windforce hd 7950 v2 (the one with the vrm backplate). i can run it at full overclock and will only hit 72ish C. https://www.3dmark.com/fs/16582319 (these are my firestrike results) my problem is that at 1190mhz i start to get artifacts, this is caused by my vCore being to low. are there ways to raise the vCore above 1.25? Hi everyone First off, I'm not sure if this is the right thread so if not, please move or delete this topic. Blender doesn't seem to recognize my amd hd 7950, I know that the latest update ditched gcn 1.0 so I installed 2.78 which reportedly does support my gpu. When I select my gpu (not sure when it's selected, the light gray or dark gray) It doesn't change anything, while rendering fluid my gpu doesn't do a single thing. Am I doing something wrong? Please help me. Jan

I think I didn't tighten right or something, I'm planning to use metal now, that will certainly work to drop some temps? I also think I didn't use enough maybe
-
Oh, thanks a lot!
-
I don't think this gpu is gonna live for to much longer, probably 1 year and it's really out, 2012 is a long time ago man
-
Thanks a lot, the tightening did work a little bit but still higher temps then before, I find it absurd that 6 year old thermal paste is better ?
-
What do you recommend?

Hi everyone, Today I repasted my gigabyte windforce hd 7950 v2. Before I saw temps of 73c with a fixed 55% fan under synthetic load. This of course is pretty good. I still have contact with the previous owner and he told me he never repasted it. So I thought it was a fun project. I don't have the best thermal paste (halnziye h510) but the paste that was on there was completely dried out. After rebooting and running the same synthetic test under the same conditions I was greeted with an unpleasant surprised, the temps increased by 20c! Now it was running at 92c which is insane. Did I do something wrong, if so what and how can I improve the temperatures. Jan

Hi everyone, I have a gigabyte HD 7950 windforce v2. I have one with the "beautiful" blue pcb, this of course looks disgusting in my orange and black pc. I found a site that has gpu backplates for the r9 280 gigabyte windforce. Will these fit? https://www.v1tech.com/shop/backplates/gigabyted1backplate/ (the site) Jan

AMD A8-6410 Apu with r5 graphics forms a link with dedicated AMD r5 m230
JanMan replied to JanMan's topic in Graphics Cards
Oh, thanks man, I'm not upgrading it though, i already have a way better PC at home, this one is just for whenever I can't use that one. It would have been great if I could disable the igpu forever because it sucks ?
