  1. thanks for the answer guys lol, nope, like i said, i never had a use for the stupid things before... guess i could just pop over to a store and get one though
  2. whoops! read that as it not being able to take mic input!
  3. guess i should have mentioned this initially, but i don't have a flash drive big enough for the windows installer (never have needed them before) and the copy i'm waiting for is actually from a friend, they're just being slow that said, there aren't any problems with building the system before having an OS?
  4. oh, didn't even notice, but from that same search also found this one, https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00EA8QUTS?tag=tomshardware_forum_ca_vgl-20 from an answer to a guy asking the same question as you, so should be what you're looking for, if not i'd definitely recommend at least trying the search terms i mentioned above.
  5. doing a quick google search of "3.5 mm jack splitter 2 male 1 female" brought up ones like this, https://www.amazon.ca/3-5mm-Female-Earphone-Audio-Splitter/dp/B00S0RWKAS is that the kind of thing you're looking for?
  6. so this is a really dumb question i have all my hardware and am currently waiting for a copy of windows 10 to get here, and i was thinking in the meantime i might as well put together the rig so it's ready to go when windows arrives. however, before i do that i want to check if there are any problems that could arise if you build the system before the OS is ready. (sorry if this is the wrong category to be posting this in as well)
  7. so i'm looking for recommendations on cheap (~$5-10 CAD) 80mm case fans, as i got this old case for free but it only has one case fan in it; i don't want to spend to much on this fan though, since the case is only a temporary solution until i can get a nicer one. thanks for any recommendations
  8. so having done some reading on the LG 24MP48HQ-P (not as much as i've done on the Acer though) and thinking about it for a while, i'm going to stick with the acer, thanks for the suggestions though @SCGazelle
  9. well i'll definitely take a look at that as well, especially since its on sale currently thanks, i wasn't sure since all the stuff i read only mentioned the overclock without going in-depth, but even so i just do casual gaming, so 60hz should be fine for me.
  10. hmm... that's on sale currently for $185, so 35 more than the other one, and i can't utilize freesync, so i'm not sure if it's worth it, as from what i've read the acer can be overclocked to 75hz as well... good to hear!
  11. so i'm currently looking for a budget gaming monitor (under $200 CAD) from what i've read about monitors under $200, the Acer R240HY bidx 23.8-Inch is the best budget gaming/editing monitor you can get for it's price ($150 CAD) before i get that monitor though, i thought i'd check if anyone has recommendations for any other monitors under $200 CAD that will be much more worth my money, suggestions for things that are currently on sale for less than $200 are also more than welcome as i'll be ordering my monitor within the next 1-4 days. thanks for any help
  12. so, my budget changed again, actually need/want to be at $600 CAD now... just curious, but was this list auto generated or did you pick out the parts yourself?
  13. thanks so much for this list! gave me a pretty good idea of what to actually go off of, rather than my original list which was really just me guessing what was good or what i needed. i've got all the guts of my rig picked out now, i'm just waiting on confirmation about a case, but i should be good to go if that all works out. thanks for the help everyone!
  14. okay, so looking at it again, budget won't be as flexible as i thought, and i'll be needing to bring my total down to around $950 CAD (current total is $1168) definitely going to be looking for a cheaper SSD, what's a good one under/around $100? i'm thinking i'll go for a lower tier GPU as well, is the gtx 1050 ti 4GB worth it? https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/wrmxFT/evga-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-4gb-acx-20-video-card-04g-p4-6251-kr and what would be a good lower tier CPU to pair with that 1050 ti?
  15. hmm... in that case, would you recommend changing the GPU or the CPU?
