I tried starting a side hustle making EDM templates, hip-hop beats and just general electronic music.

Not anything major, but just something to maybe make a bit of money off my leftovers.

I had my first client a couple of weeks ago and I made some samples for him. Today he contacted me in regards to me removing my watermark from my tracks, since he had been unsuccessful doing so.

I'll say that again. He came to me, asking for my help in stealing my own work, because he couldn't manage it on his own.

I think my side hustle should just be educating people on how not to be caught stealing intellectual property.

did he legit try and steal your stuff? What a jackass, that is scummy as hell. Did you get him to pay for the tracks?

Well, he contacted me in regards to creating some templates for him in an electro style.

Becuase I don't trust anyone I've always watermarked my tracks, so the sample templates I send to him were also watermarked.

Apperantly, he decided that the samples I gave him were enough and as such he tried to just remove the watermarks without having to pay me my fee.

But the way I implament my watermark makes it extremely difficult to remove without destroying whatever it's implamented in.

When he couldn't remove the watermark, he somehow got the idea that I, obviously, was more than willing to send him the samples without the watermarks.

    To quote him:

    Hej Rasmus

Honestly, I didn't really feel a need to respond to that.

I guess in theory he didn't attempt to steal anything, considering that I did give him the samples, but I was (and probably still is) trying to use my samples in a way that's breaching our contract.

oh wow, yeah I wouldn't want to remove anything for him, that "exposure" is 100% BS, they always use that excuse and it never turns out to benefit you at all.

I mean sure you gave him some samples to work with, but that doesn't mean that he can go out and use the samples publicly or earn money with them. I would demand payment since he wants to use them for his own benefit, it is pretty clear that he wants to use them for his own benefit or else he wouldn't bring up produceres and such. Ofc let it be a fair payment.

Also we share first names :D

I think 10 kr./template is more than reasonable. He pretty much had to pay me less than what he probably spends on coffee in a day.

I just reached the point where I don't care what he does with the samples. Judging from the way he writes, and considering the time it took for him to get back to me, I don't think he'll be able to remove the watermarks. And good luck creating anything with those in place.

yeah that is a very fair price. Seems like he will be forced to pay the price, which is just good for you, it is always nice to get just a tiny bit of cash :D
