  1. Hello, everyone. Couldn't find any info in be quiet page about some mobs compatibility with their coolers, so just wondering if there are people who has and can approve that Dark rock 3 is working fine with Gigabyte z370 gaming 5 motherboard (except first RAM slot covering, of course) ?
  2. Thanks everyone for the comments! Nice insight! However, as I saw it's z270 motherboard MSI review, so there's a chance that they improved it by now, at least a bit. Also, other manufacturers offer m.2 shields now and it's hard to tell without testing each if they all are bad for thermals. P.S. I can't trust that guy in that particular video just because of how he's throwing components on the table.. I personally don't think that much of SSD is required. All you might want is fast OS + programs load and storage stuff, like music/videos or even games, can be on slow HDD (unless you are impatient how long the game is loading ). Unless I don't know something. + I'd like to go with latest tech, so choose M.2 because of that, instead of regular SSD. And I prefer HDD more than a second regular SSD because HDD's live longer and they won't die on you suddenly, without a warning, so HDD is better for backup's and other content you don't want to lose easily. AND 2 storages always better than one, in case of one fails. Most of the parts mentioned in above. For black vs blue: black is advertised as with highest endurance and even have much longer warranty. So I'm ok to spend more for a quality stuff. I'm not a fan of a liquid cooling idea near such expensive components. I'd like to minimize all the risks of failure and maintenance work. And because I'm currently not thinking much about going hard to OC and air cooling with big towers is good enough - I'm totally happy with it, without need to worry about anything else. Yes, current gen officially supports only up to 2666, but with XMP profiles you can go safely above (based on which motherboard you use). If I'm not mistaken, you can use any motherboard manufacturer QVL list of rams with tested supported max speeds for specific vendor and his type of ram.
  3. Hello, everyone! After so many years wasted, finally decided to build my first gaming pc by myself. After like 6 months of slow researching and trying to catch up to all the latest technologies... Came up to a pleasant build! But before showing it, time for some story. I have an IT background so I'm chasing all the latest and all the best, within reason, of course. Main goal is to build a quality 1440p gaming pc + to leave some extra space for advanced stuff, like programming/graphic related thingies (VM's or other performance nightmares, like maybe even graphic design). For a moment I'm skipping GPU part of the build (all that crypto mining craze) and waiting to see if GTX 1070Ti will be any good for reasonable price. Nothing else special required, no SLI, no crossfire or other overkill stuff. I've just some very old pc, so can't (and don't want to) reuse anything from it - new build from scratch required. Due to that I'm prepared to spend as much as needed, as long as it's fairly reasonable from investment side and within steady 60+ FPS on 1440p ( I know it's more about GPU, but just for reference on more CPU intensive games). And so to continue... Build and all the reasoning behind it.. All the feedback, tips, ideas or suggestions are appreciable. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xMdQpb Lucky me, coffee lake, first 6-core mainstream generation CPUs, just got released! Most of the parts chosen based on long and devastating research and youtube review videos watching + feedback from the friends. Stand points I could call the choice to go with INTEL (due to their higher clock speeds) and NVIDIA (not good earlier experience with AMD software + NVIDIA high-end GPUs still better, IMHO). From INTEL side goes latest/shiniest/fastest 8700k with same high-grade ASUS X HERO mob and dark rock pro 3 CPU cooler (Noctua 14/15 brown style just looks too ugly). I'm not very happy about 8700k current price (up to 400 euros where I live - in Lithuania), when 8600k yields very similar results and is much cheaper (like 100+ euros cheaper). Also, kinda got lost in magically written mobs specs and can't clearly understand which have what better features so just choose another offered quality board with many unknown features (even in official page they don't bother to explain what they each feature mean ... ) - ASUS X HERO. It's also kinda expensive (270+ euros) for what it does (IMO, after compared to others), could save easily 100 euros for a cheaper board if someone could explain which one and how is better. ATM mainly looking only for it to have M.2 NVM SSD (with shield would be cool), reinforced GPU slot + able to handle heavy CPU cooler without breaking, good enough sound card for my 100 Oms headphones, Display port, Error code display and maybe some extras, like USB 3.1 Gen2 A and C connectors. Dark Rock 3 pro looks really solid and got some insights from a few reviews that it is really not bad for cooling also, even tho a bit pricey (~80 euros), so any other similar offers are welcome. Corsair LPX DDR4 is like the only solid choice to fit under the such cooler without moving the fans, while with 3200 Ghz hitting almost the sweet spot (even tho ram prices are getting through the roof and 2x8 costs 200 euros ATM). Maybe will need to go with something more simple for now and buy them later on. 960 EVO SSD and WD black kinda best storage choices, based on my research + X hero mob support. 250 GB enough for OS and basic programs, while 1 TB will be enough for all the movies in queue. PSU... Based on https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator calculations, with added top-tier GTX 1080Ti + some modest overclocking potential.. + maybe for future use of more power hungry GPU + also X hero featured support in QVL (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/ROG_MAXIMUS_X_HERO/ROG_MAXIMUS_X_HERO_Devices_QVL.pdf?_ga=2.178461409.471132813.1508015319-935979786.1504901666). And finally the case of case! Found out it was like most offered case for air flow in smth smth years. Also it looks kinda nice and has enough USB ports + panel in sweet place at the top. All the chosen components should fit in it. And after all that essay.. If someone interested in from where I choose all my parts and taking the price from, it's from local pc parts e-shop http://www.skytech.lt (sadly it looks like they have no translations for other languages, loolz). I'll take into consideration all the offers if they are backed up by the reasoning of why smth is better or worse than smth else. I'm aware that some of my picks are kinda stupid, but I just got tired of all the searching done to get even at this point and would pay more just to get smth good enough without extra work anymore.. So just hoping to get some help from you guys, to save a few extra "bucks" for future GPU. ALSO, I'd like to know which graphic card and monitor (preferably IPS) you would offer to buy for steady 60+ FPS 1440p gameplay. Thanks in advance and God Speed, everyone!
