  1. At random intervals, all my USB ports on my pc just stop working, all my peripherals just stop working and i have to force a restart to get them working again. I'm on windows 11, 12th gen intel system. Is this a driver issue or something more insidious, any suggestions would be great. NOTE: this started happening suddenly, the pc is around 8 months old now and the issue only started the past week.
  2. Just as a follow up, following Bearmann’s suggested parts list, my friend is now happily using something better than a 7 year old laptop for his main rig. We bought everything at a local micro center, we couldn’t source a 1060 so with our savings upgraded him to a 2060 instead. Thanks everyone for your input.
  3. This is awesome! Thanks for the link as well, this is absolutely perfect. I was struggling to figure out if per core performance would be better, and the link really spelled it out for me. Im located in the US, Pennsylvania to be precise, so i should be able to find some good deals at the nearby Microcenter to get most of these parts at a very good price!
  4. From what he has told me, gaming is not a major concern but I’m looking toward some “futureproofing” as much as I hate the term. If I can get some good deals and do some balanced upgrades around the sysyem, I’ll look to do that, so the sysytem will stay relevant for him longer. But the input for the gpu is concidered and I’ll look to getting more performance out of the cpu first.
  5. Thanks for the advice. I’ll likely try to squeeze in a 1660ti if I can find a good sale on the other components
  6. A buddy of mine came up to me and asked me to help him pick parts. I have built some gaming PCs in the past so that’s why he came to me. The problem is I have no idea what to prioritize for this kind of workstation. He is a professional digital artist and does very large scale, mural size pieces, usually government work. Should I focus on gpu power or cpu? And if cpu is more cores and threads better or is better single core performance better? Thanks.
  7. I recently have been having issues booting to desktop. my motherboard is able to post but with no display out through the GPU. I have tried using other slots and even another GPU but i still cant get a signal out. I have been able to get to the desktop using my CPU's onboard graphics cores. So my question is do i have a bum GPU or is the PCIE slots in my motherboard bad? any ideas on trouble shooting?
  8. Thanks for the suggestions! And I am definitely going to use a helical reservoir because why the hell not.
  9. I am currently designing a hardline build for a new PC that i am putting together. As a biology student, i wanted to tie in DNA into the build and though it would be really cool to get a double helix into the system. Anyone have any ideas on how to bend a full helix from PETG tubing?
