I plan to get an ROG Swift 27” 165hz, 1ms Gsync monitor. I think that will suffice for the use of my 1080Ti.

Yessss. I would love to do the Define S but I want the glass and a shrouded basement and an actual 3.5” Bay not mounts.

So the H700i case is amazing aside from the accent bar and the smart hub. Both of which can be removed, and honestly I’m considering doing just that. I was thinking of taking them both out and putting in a Corsair Commander Pro to route all fans/RGB through. Only problem is the Kraken and the included NZXT RGB strips probably have to be controlled through CAM.

Well I appreciate the input, and I am sure there are more cost effective ways to build a system. But this is the one I want right now. I’m not interested in getting into custom cooling loops at this juncture. Also I know what performance monitor I’ll be buying, I’m just not buying it right this second.

I’ll take a second look at the case you mentioned above. Thanks.

FUR1AN got a reaction from JabroniBaloney in Best gaming headphone setup for $150
Hey there, I'd honestly go check out the various reviews HardwareCanucks has put out this year relating to gaming headsets. They have done a couple of roundups that cover the big players in the market right now. That way you can see and hear mic qualities, headset construction...etc.

I personally use the Hyper X Cloud Flight Wireless. They are awesome for true stereo output (great for competitive multiplayer..i.e. CSGO), but the sound quality itself is so so. The included mic on that headset is garbage so if you go that route, I would look for an alternative for a mic.

I hope this helps!

away with that board, swap it for a taichi, taichi ultimate or even a x470 fatal1ty. you know 2600 is a hypertreaded hexa core for 150-170 bucks right? ram is fine

on x and k for intel they are unlocked. at amd all ryzen chips are unlocked. and you don't need a x series mobo either, you can get a b series and still overclock on it

FUR1AN got a reaction from Mholes in Determining What Monitor Is Worth It For Me
Echoing what Mholes said, 4k displays are kind of in a weird spot right now. High fluid gaming at 100fps or more is much more enjoyable than trying to notice the difference between 1440p and 2160p on a desktop monitor. I have a 2k and 4k monitor side by side on my desk and I can tell you the difference in clarity isn't worth the frame performance you'd be giving up by going with a 2160p display.

I would find a 1440p IPS display with Gsync, 144hz and <5ms response time and use that instead. If you want to go the ultrawide route I would check out the Acer Predator, the Asus models, or LG / Samsung. Those brands have pretty reputable displays with quality color calibration and whatnot.

Acer Predator (a little dated but still a solid pick): https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824011185&Description=acer predator&cm_re=acer_predator-_-24-011-185-_-Product

Asus (Open Box Deal): https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236717R

These are a couple options, and there are going to be a bunch of new panels coming out in 2019 as well, notably from Gigabyte and LG. Good luck!

Personally i prefer 1440p over 4K atm. Main reason being the fact that you can't easily reach high fps in any games while playing in 4K. With 2080Ti you can get close, but NVlinked 2x2080Ti's are a must if you really want to reach those sweet 120fps marks. Personally I'd buy either an 1440p 144Hz etc etc. OR an ultrawide 1440p monitor with 120Hz etc etc. Personal opinion tho. You should wait for other answers too.

Lucky you 2080 You will join the RTX club!

Well 3dmark uses your CPU as well. So if you OCed your CPU but not GPU, 3dmark can crash. Anyhow I wouldn't bother with any of that junk. Just launch aida stability test and put a check in GPU ,,, and it will torch your GPU and make it work at 100 percent load and what not.

All these stupid benchmark programs are silly. They run synthetic tests to see if it can fry your CPU, that is all that junk is for me IMO. I rather use a professional app like Aida and do stability test ya know... Also your temps will be 10c more in Prime95 where as Aida is not synthetic based.

Yes, run teh stability test in Aida and if she runs for 30 minutes and no crash or stoppage then go back and OC a bit more. You need to find the sweet spot for voltage.. I think you can do 4.8 with 1.35v LLC needed possibly.

I won't rehash what the masters have already said - so definitely take their advice. I will share my own experience though. I asked almost the exact same questions when I was first starting out, and I still don't know much about overclocking. I will say that I had relative ease hitting 5Ghz at 1.35v using a Kraken x62 cooler on a non-delidded 8700k. So it certainly is possible, and not all that hard to do. With the AIO I think under load I was in the mid 60's with spikes into the 70's and the rare high spike into the low 80's. That being said, those are very playable temps and not something to be concerned about. I would say consistent 70-80C is not where you want to be though, in an ideal state.

Start off low and step up the overclock bit by bit until it crashes. Turn it back down, test for stability (rinse and repeat). Once you find a plateau at your stock voltage, then start notching that up bit by bit, while testing for stability all the while. For a gaming rig that you will use regularly, I would try to avoid going above 1.4V.

Good luck!

You could also be unlucky with the quality of the screen etc.... but basically when calibrating your going by your eyes not what ohers preceive as perfect... so if your eyesight has a slight colour deviation to the "norm" then you have to adjust for that.... we dont all see colours in the same shade

The pumps are one and done, so when they fail most folks just buy another cooler. As for the fans that come with the AIO to go on the rad, of course you can swap those out with something that performs a bit better. Try the Noctua static pressure optimized fans, I am using them in my rig!

I helped a friend build a new system recently and he had a similar budget for his GPU, I suggested the ROG STRIX 2070. Performs just as well as a 1080 in most tests and gets damn close to 1080Ti performance under certain conditions. As reference I think my friend picked his up for ~$500 in the U.S.

Do some overclocking on that thing and you will be blazing frames on that Gsync 2k monitor! Good luck.

Maybe find a used 1080 ti if you're okay with that, or an RTX 2070 if you want ray tracing. You also have the option to get maybe one of the upcoming 1160 or 1170 cards that are supposed to be the rtx lineup but no ray tracing.
