remo reacted to Blademaster91 in Is it worth upgrading from 7700k to 9900k solely for gaming?
Yeah going to an 8 core would help, for only gaming the 9900K is faster but i'd recommend having a look at the Ryzen 3700X also.

1440p at 27 inches is likely the best sweet spot for you, you can indeed play at 4k with a 980 Ti but the advantages of 4k vs 1440p at 27 inches when gaming a very minor and if your image quality has to decrease too much you'll end up having 4k of very few details defeating the purpose.

That should easily handle 1440p or 4K, it's 1080p that pushes the CPU really hard.

I have the 4k. The 6k looks good but whats your technical skill level. Both the 4k and 6k are aimed at cinematographers. There is no autofocus and you will probably need a second monitor depending on what style you shoot.

In gaming there's not much visual difference anyways (on the same size panel). The main advantages of 4K would be recording/screenshotting stuff in full 4K, and better pixel density on large monitors. I wouldn't go for 4K unless you really wanna capture crispy screenshots (I do, lol), or want a panel over 32" but don't want a 1440p ultrawide.

Guess ill probably get 1440p, 4k probably isnt even that necessary more of an accessory.

Depends on the title obviously, but I would guess 40-50ish on medium.

remo reacted to Froody129 in Would GTX 1080 SLI Be a Real Dumb Idea?
I'd buy it, sell both and buy a better single card. Or just sell it and keep the money for a future upgrade. It's not like a 1080 is a slouch at all.

Been using sli for a decade and only had a few issues. Shitty game or a shitty pc.
Lately its its kinda both. Ran two on black ops 4. Cpu intensive game and it destroyed the cpu at 1440p. But FPS doubled. Would have been a great experience though. But some maps were worse than others. Just stuck to using a single card at 1080p and put the other one in a spare rig.
Would only upgrade if the pc can actually handle it. Not for the sake of it as most tend to suggest.

Display ports are better overall if youre thinking of upgrading to 144hz monitors or 4k monitors, that 2 bucks is an investement towards the future!!!

Of course an SMT/HT thread is not the same as a thread from an actual CPU, but multi-threaded throughput can be improved by up to 30% with SMT, so it's definitely good to have.
Though I agree with you that for roughly the same price, the 8700 is the better option than a 8600K, especially for a mixed workload. It does cost more than a 2600X though.

remo reacted to Princess Luna in I7 8700k for 330 or 2600x for 220
SMT threads are in no way the same as cores, realistically speaking both are 6 cores CPUs and that's it additional threads from SMT and HT do not have the same performance or weight.
The i5 8600K at 5ghz will be better than the Ryzen 5 2600X across every thing, regardless what you do, workstation or not... it is simply a better product, it's just pretty expensive in comparison.
If you want more threads consider a locked i7 8700 if you can afford to OC the i5 you also can afford this one as you're given the chance to save up in CPU, cooling and motherboard with it while keeping the latest IPC available CPU with full 6 cores / 12 threads doing 4.3ghz ~ 4.4ghz on full core boosting.
