I recommend Linux but you can use whatever you want, a 2600 is still good enough to run Windows more than comfortably.

    Totalschaden1997 reacted to colonel_mortis in Python 2 or 3?
The difference between python 2 and 3 are pretty small, so if you wanted to use code academy you could follow the python 2 course then just learn the few things that have changed (print became print(), 3 / 2 went from 1 to 1.5, and a few other minor changes).
I would recommend python 3, because python 2 will be end of life fairly soon.

Its a overclockable 9700 (k) the (f) indicates that it is one of the 9th generation Intel chips that does not contain integrated graphics.

Ill be providing a link to Intels information page on it if more info is required.

Totalschaden1997 reacted to Chunchunmaru_ in Trying to boot into Manjaro (Budgie) using a laptop with broken GPU
I would edit the boot parameters to disable the Radeon driver and forcing the Intel one for everything

    Try
press E when grub is shown to edit boot parameters, add them after quiet splash separated with a space

Try those boot parameters separately if putting all of them doesn't give any luck, like

    radeon.blacklist=1 i915.modeset=1
    then
    radeon.modeset=0 i915.modeset=1

radeon.blacklist=1 only separately, same for modeset

If none of those still gives any luck, try amdgpu instead of radeon like amdgpu.blacklist=1... etc following all the steps again

I recommended using Davinci Resolve 15 Beta as it's a powerful video editing software that's also free. I used it for a while and I enjoyed it. You could also use Hitfilm which you can get for free however, it crashes a lot for me. Hope this helped, Aaron

Totalschaden1997 reacted to Chunchunmaru_ in Which Linux Distro qualifies my needs?
Hi, Dell usually tends to have supported ACPI because of their XPS developer version which comes out with Ubuntu pre-installed, so you won't have any problems with the backlight, sleep, etc...

As for external drawing screen tablet, usually depends from the availability of the drivers, I got a simple Huion for playing osu, and it works. Wacom should have native support too, its something you can check with Google.

Davinci resolve has a native linux version and is easy to install, has a windows-like setup, but unlike windows, it doesn't support H264 video playback for some reason, so you will need to encode in HEVC or something else, I don't know the details

Any DX11 game is likely to run, except the one with EAC which are something currently unsupported with wine atm which are currently in development with Valve for a solution

As for customization, every linux distro lets you do that

Speaking of safety, viruses are less prone to attack you due to linux being less used in desktops and also because of the package manager, as for hacks/vulnerabilities, as long you update your system regularly, there are no issues compared with WIndows 10 automatic updates, as for privacy, some distros like ubuntu tend to send a minimal quantity of data compared to Windows.

Wine should be capable of running Windows programs, but has to be compatible. C# ones tend to be the most supported

As for the distro, you may choose the one you like, that should have all you need, but if you are unsure choose the most updated one just to be sure to have more drivers for your peripherals you want to run, like Ubuntu 19.04 or PopOS, or Manjaro Linux (Which has a slighly harder learning curve as it's based in arch and is a bit less stable)

You can try a desktop environment like KDE, since has widgets, so Kubuntu would be a choice, or Manjaro KDE, or PopOS with KDE. But GNOME offers customization like Windows too with something like DashToPanel

it also makes it extremely hard to find when referring to an old video...
for example, i wanted to find a video where Linus looks at the XION XON-310_BK case for a friend who was wanting a new case for his desktop
the video in question is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdtBkN3vrpQ
so my first action was to search their channel for the key words: "XION XON-310_BK"
nothing.... (when i do it now it shows the video but it was about a year ago when i did it and i think the search algorithm has improved since then)
my next action was to google: "linus XION XON-310_BK"
nothing... (now it shows up as the last result on the first page, again improved search algorithms since i last did it)
for newer videos like the mining GPU hack video and the server room upgrade and fix video, it's impossible since their are no key words allowing it to separate from other videos with the same keywords but have nothing to do with the video that you are trying to find... (the server video is a prime example, they have NO key words relating to "server, server room, server room upgrade, server room networking, networking, server room maintenance, linustechtips" etc, literately, look at the video description there is no keywords allowing for easier searching with a search engine)
    it's a mess...

    Hello!

I've been a loyal subscriber of the Linus Tech Tips channel for years even though I've never posted on the forum.

I'm posting for the first time to share my opinion before it's too late.

I just wanted to say that I never click on content with clickbait titles or dumb thumbnails by principle. Unfortunately, more and more Linus Tech Tips videos on your YouTube channel have those.

    Here are a few examples:

    I don't click:
We NEVER expected NVIDIA to allow this... How has EVERYONE overlooked this?? Why would you even…? Razer thought this was a good idea?? I can't believe this. I click:
Alienware's CRAZY upgradeable laptop The OLED Gaming TV from ALIENWARE!! Preparing for 10 GIGABIT Internet! What Could Go Wrong? (even though I could do without the "What could go wrong") Electrical Wiring for the Gaming Center - What could go wrong? (I see a pattern…) MacBook Air 2018 – A PC Guy's Perspective "Water" Cooled Smartphone - S#!t Manufacturers Say Are Walmart Gaming PCs actually THAT bad? In general thumbnails have all been dumb for a few months now, with the "mandatory" funny and/or exaggerated face and the white outline. Thumbnails used two years ago with just the products were fine!

You have 8 million subscribers interested in computers, I'm not sure that they need these tactics to watch your videos.

I may be the only one to feel that way, and if so I would understand that you ignore this "rant", but I hope that I'm not alone, that other people feel the same and that hopefully you'll adapt to this portion of your audience.

I still like many of your videos, I hope you'll keep posting good ones!

Sata power, that's a connector that is on your power supply (also used for 2,5" SSD's and hard drives).
This is a Corsair case/fan system right? Because that looks like the hardware RGB controller (so it has buttons for effect, speed, etc.)

If it was that easy, do you think people would get paid to make video games or 3D advertisments?
