  1. I'm currently working on a server I received recently, it has an Intel Xeon E3-1240 4 core/8 thread CPU, and 8gb of DDR3 on a proprietary board, I put my WD Blue 1 terabyte drive in and tried both SATA and SAS, but whenever it tries to boot, it blue screens and tries again, only to blue screen again, I tried another set of RAM, I tried just one stick, I tried all four sticks, and it still won't boot into windows, I'm using Windows 8.1.
  2. Thank you mate. I thought it was DDR2, but no, apparently I'm just a scrub who can't tell the difference between DDR2 and DDR3.
  3. Hello, I have recently acquired an old server from my dad's dental office (with the drives gone, of course) and it had 8 gigs of DDR2 oddly enough along with an Intel Xeon E3-1240 (a 4 core, 8 thread ivybridge cpu) and while I know it would be at the very least slightly better for gaming than my A10 5800K APU, the thing is that the Xeon's board only has an electrical 8x PCIe slot, would an R7 260x or a GTX 1050 saturate a 8x gen 2 PCIe slot?
  4. 100 gigs would be a good boot drive, I'd personally get at least a 1 terabyte mechanical drive to go with it for overflow.
  5. Pretty sure Windows 10 isn't that much bigger? Correct me if I'm wrong.
  6. I used a 20 gig drive for windows 8.1, so you should be fine.
  7. That's what I was thinking, it's too volatile to not crash.
  8. All the cryptocurrency is extremely volatile, and if the government came in in the middle of the night and made it so ridiculously hard for any cryptocurrency to be mined, while it would be bad at first, it would be better in the long run.
  9. Just wait until it all goes down.
  10. What? I thought that a 1050 for 150$ was a good deal. I had no idea that even the low tier was getting affected by this.
  11. Or get a lower class GPU, like a 1050, 1050 ti, or RX 560.
  12. For one thing, yes, mining could go away any day now, and also, new GPU generations might not be immediately snatched up by miners, especially if Nvidia releases the card that's made just for mining.
  13. If they aren't scams, these are amazing prices right now.
  14. Ryzen +, the actual new generation, is planned to come out in a month's time from now, but hopefully it won't be Vega again.
  15. Ryzen 2 is coming in 2019, and yes, and no, not a new iteration, a new generation, like Intel with the Core series.
  16. Ryzen 2 is coming later, I do believe you mean Ryzen +.
  17. If only Vega 64 wasn't terrible...
  18. Yes, the computer enthusiast takes fashion tips from a dead empire.
  19. Not the GPU, the CPU, AM4 and Ryzen have been promised to be supported much longer than Intel sockets.
  20. I would've gone with AMD if you wanted to upgrade the CPU later.
  21. I have a seperate device that supplies power to the drive, and I hear it spinning up. The laptop also won't boot from a USB flash drive.
  22. Just keep looking. an 8800 is a nice find for the novelty of it, but really, it's not really able to do much now.
  23. I do have a female molex to male (or female since sata is inverted?) cable, I use it to power a disk drive that's connected using a sata to usb adapter, it works well.
  24. Yeah, I thought so, I was hoping that there would be something that maybe could simulate pcie, like a connector that goes into a bunch of usb ports
