Kevin_Walter reacted to Middcore in With Jaystwocents saying BUY NOW and everyone else saying WAIT til 4x series. I'm super confused.
Jay is bored with PC enthusiast content creation and wants new cards to come out as fodder for videos, and he's afraid if people don't buy enough of the current glut of 30 series cards Nvidia will delay 40 series.

He's also forgotten what it's like to have to actually think about the cost of anything you want to buy, and is generally an ass.

    Pay him no mind.

Kevin_Walter got a reaction from Mando772004 in Suggestions for troubleshooting stuttering in games
Sometimes steady framepacing is more important than a higher framerate if you want a game to run smoothly. Since you don't use a form of adaptive sync, then your framerate bouncing around under your monitor's refresh is going to cause your monitor to be out of sync with your framerate more often than not. This is what v-sync is supposed to cure, but it can cause input latency, which is why locking your framerate to something that your system can more consistently achieve can help to iron out stuttering.

As a rule, it doesn't have to be 60fps. It could be 72 or something. So long as it's a consistent number slightly below what your system is capable of maintaining during normal gameplay.

Kevin_Walter reacted to Syntaxvgm in Is there a valid reason why SSDs are still so expensive?
For the short term-some kind of nand shortage. Prices have been going up. An adata 480GB drive I bought a few of a while ago for 109 is now 137 for example.

Long term, they have bene going down, and will keep going up in capacity. One day spinning rust will be dead, but it will be some time.

Nothing epitomizes fake news quite like the 'pandemic' over fake news.

Is there false information out there?  Yes.  Always has been, always will be.

More importantly, do the major media players enjoy the luxury of picking and choosing which events they totally ignore?  Because worse than the insane BS flowing from vague, or obviously biased sources is the actual facts and events that you do not hear about because someone decided they didn't want you to hear about it.

Beware of anyone who thinks it is their business to decide what you can and cannot hear.  A free society must have free flow of information, and freedom of thought must include the freedom to be wrong.  Anything else and someone is trying to be your master.

Of course there's very little fragmentation. 1: They force everyone to upgrade eventually, and 2: Most of the people who delay updates are probably gamers, and they force updates on them by making games and apps that require said updates.

Kevin_Walter got a reaction from Zangashtu in Bioshock "Remasters"
I haven't had any issues with them thus far. Other than a bit of a stuttering issue when it drops frames here and there (which is funny because with v-sync turned off, I get 120+ fps, but with it turned on, it'll sometimes drop to 58/59 and cause an annoying bit of stutter... thanks, AMD), but that just required a bit of fiddling around with the framerate cap and some v-sync settings.

It's not the prettiest "remaster" in the world, but I do appreciated things like the added foliage (especially outdoors), the improved character models, and the textures that they actually changed.

I certainly wouldn't call them garbage. That would require me calling the originals garbage as well, since they're essentially the exact same games.

Not really fair. Batman didn't have an issue with content or misrepresentation... it was horribly optimized on PC because of bad decisions made by Warner Brothers. Decisions that severely hurt Rocksteady's reputation... even though they didn't really deserve the backlash for what happened.

As a fan of the series since Asylum, I think Arkham Knight is actually a really great game. In fact, I'd go as far as saying that it's my favorite in the series (status previously given to Arkham City). What happened on the PC side of things was shameful, but nowhere near the overall deception that occurred with NMS.

I personally think NLA (Natural Lighting and Atmospherics) is the best ENB preset. It has a very clean look to it.

But whatever you do, get Dyndolod. It might require you watch an installation video, but it's the best mod there is if you care at all about distant environmental detail. It'll take all kinds of roads, rocks, trees, structures, etc that you have in your load order (including ones from other mods), and it'll make low-resolution billboards for them, and then make them visible from almost any distance.

Oh, and if you're not liking these ENBs, check out Hodilton on youtube. He does a video on pretty much every decent ENB preset that comes out. I'm sure you can find something you like.

Been playing Skyrim with Natural Lighting and Atmospherics and some other mods lately. Been kind of annoyed because I really liked most of the textures and such from Tamriel Reloaded, but there were a lot of errors like mismatched tree lods and such so I stopped using it and grabbed some other texture packs instead. The end result is still pretty good, I think.
