  1. I know crap-all about laptops which is why I'm asking you guys. I see at PBtech the G551JM w/ 860M is $1800 while the G550JK 850M is $1935. What are the differences between them both that would justify the G550JK being more expensive? Am I right in assuming the G551JM is better for gaming due to the 860M, or is there more to it than that? The Friend isn't interested in video editing or benchmarking, and CSGO is likely the most intensive game he'll be playing for a while. G551JM http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=NBKASU551169 G550JK http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=NBKASU65856
  2. I'm taking a jab at the Australians who cry about the availability and pricing of components in Australia.
  3. ^ They don't have the best availability, for example they don't have Noctua products. But they do have pretty good prices because most of the smaller companies can't buy in the quantity PBtech buys in. The prices are still shit ($450 for RM1000), but still better than elsewhere in NZ. Also, Australians click the link and stfu about your prices.
  4. I don't know much about news either, but my suggestions would be BBC and The Guardian. Also, certain people hate certain news sites. Expect massive arguments over whether or not certain sites are biased.
  5. Almost every microtransaction can be defended by saying "it's the players choice". That's not an argument, that's not good enough.
  6. Even so, is it worth it? 290's are dropping in price so much.
  7. I used to be fine playing Crysis at just above 30fps not-maxed on my GTX 285. I've played PC games for a lot longer than I've been interesting in PC hardware, so I can kind of empathize with these people. I didn't notice or care about the textures not being as good as they could be, or frame rate issues. Loading times didn't annoy me much. It all annoys me now, but not then. Years later I came back to Crysis on my old PC once and was amazed at how poorly it ran by my standards.
  8. The hype will build, especially with EA's marketing campaign. The game however is very unlikely to live up to the hype. That said, it seems that EA has learned a bit from the Ubisoft shitstorm, so maybe they've changed a bit for the better.
  9. That's a pretty damn good deal for NZ. They're $300 US on Amazon, $460NZ at PBtech.
  10. 4K TV does not equal 4K gaming. 4K TVs are becoming more common, so shows are being filmed in 4K, but that doesn't mean consoles will be expected to play games in 4K. and 30Hz is likely enough anyway, more cinematic they say.
  11. There are no 4 or 4+4pin PCIE connectors, so yes any 4+4pins are going to be labelled EPS and are connected to the motherboard for power to the CPU. Don't connect EPS connectors to the GPU, don't connect PCIE connectors to the motherboard to power the CPU.
  12. Yes it should, it's a very low profile cooler. If the RVZ01 can't take it, that's a serious issue with the case not the cooler. Silverstone's website gives the maximum CPU cooler height as 83mm, Noctua's website gives the height of the L9i as 37mm.
  13. I'd like to make a distinction between 8pin (or 6+2 pin) PCIE connectors for graphics cards and 8pin (or 4+4pin) EPS connectors for the CPU. Don't muddle them up when you replace your PSU.
  14. So, fucking incredible game is being promised, but it's on Kickstarter and hasn't even reached their $150,000 CAD goal. Seems legit. Only takes $150,000 to fund a balls-to-the-walls amazing MMORPG? Bitch please.
  15. I don't think they've sold many, and I hardly see any Phanteks build logs... Anyway, you're referring to the Enthoo Primo Special Edition with the orange motherboard tray. It's a slight improvement on the original Primo in that the aluminium panels are sandblasted and so more resistant to smudges and prints.
  16. Firstly, I don't care if throwing a game is technically cheating, don't call it cheating. It isn't helpful. Second, if you're wondering why they threw the game, they netted more than 10 grand in skins. The consequences are that Steel and dboorn from Torqued are banned from numerous leagues, Swag, DaZeD and AZK from GX/ex-iBP are banned as well, Skadoodle and Hiko are now looking for a team (Ska is standing in for Torqued in ClutchCon along with Desi), and Team NetcodeGuides has left NetcodeGuides after only being with them for 2 weeks, and are now known as Mythic as they were before.
  17. @ElectronicArts If you are actually an Industry Affiliate of EA you can get that as your title so people know you're legit and not a bot or some shit. Until this user is confirmed as a representative of EA, I recommend all forum users be a little suspicious. This could easily be a troll. If they are confirmed as representing EA, then welcome.
  18. Delayed my purchase for months, eventually purchased an Enthoo Evolv from Amazon for $314NZ as it was my best option, days later PBtech sells a bunch of Phanteks cases including the Evolv for $50 less and the Pro for $100 less than I could get from Amazon. I've bought some sleeved cables and a new motherboard, so I may do a build log if it doesn't look like crap at the end.
  19. 500-550W is more than enough.
  20. Ah I see. That's a great example of the community driving the market.
  21. Ever heard of the Samsung 850 Pro?
  22. Do you mean right after the release of Operation Vanguard and the Vanguard Collection? Because then it's supply and demand, still. Very low supply to begin with, and very high demand to begin with. A more recent example is the Chroma collection. ST FN Grotto Scar20 was initally sold for $25, and almost immediately dropped to less than $10, now being $1.20. The Chroma cases were in short supply right after release, being sold for $40 initially, and quickly dropped to $5, now being $1.50. Valve plays an important role in the supply. It's both Valve and the community. I'm not really disagreeing with you I guess, just explaining that I mean.
