  1. tomamoss favourite videos: H.O.T.A.S. (https://www.vessel.com/videos/Yj4PbcgKj) & Hard-Piping (https://www.vessel.com/videos/JYZEYDYx0)
  2. In the future, please make it clear that you were at the limit for your budget. I think all of us were making suggestions on the assumption that you had a larger budget than you actually had. You didn't make this clear until post #13 in the thread. brob, I would actually take the increased CUDA performance over the optimization that the Quadro provides at that price point. Also, Sadistic_Potato, saying that we don't know what we're talking about when in fact we do know what we're talking about isn't the best way to get the best opinions on your build.
  3. I do the exact same work you're looking to do, and if I had a 750ti I'd be bloody miserable with how long everything is taking to display in the viewport. If you didn't want our advice, then you shouldn't have posted. I've used both a 780 and a Quadro and I've had so much more satisfaction with the Quadro since lines don't tear, I can quickly move around my models and I have a lot better output options, not to mention 10 bit colour for photoshop and touch-up work. But by all means, go with your 750ti if it will truly make you happy.
  4. I don't know what kind of info you've read. It will help in correctly displaying lines and graphics in all of these programs, not to mention quicken your workflow. Links to help:
  5. Is there a budget available for a Quadro or at least one 980? That video card is extremely underwhelming in relation to the rest of your system.
  6. @Slick you should look into the Sony Xperia Z3, or Z3c. If it was available on my carrier I would get it in a heartbeat
  7. Is there a reason you wouldn't buy another LGA2011 v1 board to save you the cost of having to buy an entirely new CPU and DDR4 RAM?
  8. I mean go with 4x8GB if you're rendering and doing video editing, with the possibility going to 64GB total with all DIMMs full. In my work right now (architectural modeling, rendering and animation) I consistently use more than 20GB of memory in AfterEffects. More RAM helps me because I use all my programs concurrently
  9. I would stick to 8GB RAM sticks rather than 4GB sticks. Radiator should go in the top. I think the Corsair RM series is fine, the difference is a wash IMHO.
  10. I haven't heard the same, but it's not the end of the world if he doesn't get it. Do you have a certain link I could follow? I'm curious.
  11. Or, if he didn't want 16GB of RAM, he could buy a low capacity SSD for a boot drive, so he'd have the following: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($164.99 @ NCIX US) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($55.98 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($62.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($54.98 @ OutletPC) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($51.85 @ OutletPC) Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB Tri-X Video Card ($259.99 @ Newegg) Case: NZXT Tempest 210 ATX Mid Tower Case ($49.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Rosewill Capstone 750W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ Newegg) Total: $750.76 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-01-02 21:35 EST-0500
  12. If he was fixed on it, he could grab 16GB (2x8GB) of RAM without going over budget. It really is spectacular how much $700 (or $750) gets you.
  13. Also this should be in the planned builds section if it hasn't already been moved yet.
  14. You're spending money on parts that are A. Unnecessary, or B. Not the best "bang for buck". The AMD FX-series aren't comparable to the Intel i5 series at that price due to the old architecture and poor single thread performance. The H60 is completely unnecessary unless you want to overclock the CPU, and you can achieve this with a simple air cooler for $30. By reducing the costs for the case, RAM and power supply you can get the R9290 like Nathaniel suggested (or maybe you can get a good deal on a 970 or 780) which is miles ahead of the 750ti. It's bad in the sense that you are overpaying for parts that won't necessarily help make the computer more powerful.
  15. Yes! I've been looking to build myself a shiny new X99 build for my workstation! Linus, Slick et. al, thanks for being such a great crew!
  16. Could you answer these five questions? 1. What is your location and actual budget? 2. What do you want the computer to do apart from LoL? Do you want to stream? How about editing? 3. Do you need a monitor and how many do you need if so? Also is the cost of a monitor included in your budget? 4. Do you need peripherals? 5. Do you have any other reasons for upgrading apart from your laptop breaking?
  17. Jesus this thread is long. Linus & co., thanks for basically giving me my (albeit not very advanced) knowledge of computers and tech. I found your YouTube channel about a year ago and have since been obsessed with the latest and greatest tech and tech news. I built my first rig for 3D modeling and have caught the building computer bug. Thanks for your guy's services. Oh and Luke, thanks for the Custom Pro recommendation last year, I love them.
  18. The thing about making a Hackintosh is that only specific parts are going to work on them, it's not as easy as just inserting a USB or CD and installing from scratch. http://rampagedev.wordpress.com/ is a great source for Hackintosh guides and a list of compatible motherboards and the like. I suggest looking at his site and determining a parts list based on compatible motherboards.
  19. I need better battery life in my phone, and the Z2 looks like it is a winner in this respect. Those DBrand skins look hawt too
  20. Not sure if this has been posted before, I did a quick search but found little. Source: PCMagazine , Engadget, CNET So the OS that Edward Snowden supposedly used during his communications with journalists is no longer in Beta and is in Stable Version 1.0. The OS, TAILS (The Amnesiac Incognito Live System), is a linux based distro which acts as an amnesiac system, saving none of your files, browsing data or any data whatsoever. The OS has a web browser, office suite, instant messenger and even a photo editor. Some sites are blocked, such as purchasing sites and sites needing log-in identification, so the user is incredibly difficult to track as they browse the web. From CNET: "After booting up with the Linux-based software from a DVD, SD card, or USB drive, a computer can travel around the Internet without leaving a trace of its activity on the device unless explicitly told to do so." The OS is obviously minimal in nature and intent, so the question begging to be asked is, who is this for apart from highly confidential informants who need absolute security? I understand the need for security especially in the wake of the NSA leaks, but will anyone in the community take up this OS as an everyday thing or just for novelty?
  21. I'm an avid iPhone user (don't hate me), but I wish Apple would pull their head out of their ass and put some front facing speakers on the thing already. This M8 is looking like an awfully intriguing choice when I have to update.
  22. I'm currently using the beyerdynamic Custom One Pros on the recommendation of Linus and Slick. I prefer them over my Beats studio, you can get them at a reasonable price on Amazon and the adjustable bass is a nice feature. I got them in white and I think they look pretty smart, but most importantly to me they are proper comfortable for longer listening sessions.
