Here in switzerland you can currently get a used gtx 1660 super for £100, plenty on offer. Way better than a 1060

RX 580 and GTX 1060 are about this price on ebay.  the amd card performs a little better but they are about the same.  make sure you get a RX 580 8GB or a GTX 1060 6GB, the 4GB and 3GB models are bad.

rhyseyness got a reaction from marcolopes in USB vs Audio jack sound quality
Short answer: the two can't be compared.
One is digital and one is analogue.
It depends on the hardware driving it and what you're listening to (what headphones/speakers) as to whether it's high quality or not.
The USB signal will have to be converted to analogue at some point to drive your speakers/headphones.
Once it's converted, it's "the same" as the audio jack output.
The difference really is where in the chain it's converted from digital to analogue.
USB is converted to analogue in the device which is connected.
Your audio jack output is from a DAC within the device you're connecting to (phone/PC/etc.)
Why are you asking? We'll be able to give you some more helpful advice if we have this information.
Sorry if this is a poor explanation, but like I said, let us know what this is regarding and we can give more helpful advice.
    Hope this helps

rhyseyness reacted to GoodBytes in [Update] MSI paying reviewers to remove their bad reviews of their products
Planning in purchasing an MSI product? Perhaps its time to reconsider.

A small'ish reviewer on YouTube, TechTeamGB, pointed flaws on a review sample from an MSI laptop. Before publishing it, just to be sure that he didn't get a laptop that faced the manufacture error bad luck syndrome, wanted to confirm with MSI about the issues he faced with the laptop before publishing his review. Instead of replying to the criticism or sending a different unit if it was indeed faulty. They took a long time to reply... and their reply was along the line of: Here is some money, if you don't post your review. Let's just keep this between us!.

The reviewers who has integrity, has refused MSI "offer" and decide to post it anyway. MSI came back with a reply asking him to change the review title. They didn't like the fact that the word "disappointing" was used, threatening him of no longer having review sample nor future sponsorship if he doesn't change the title. He decline again. The reviewer believes that the fact that the laptop that he got had, in his opinion, featured a poor display, ad thermals and "track pad felt like it was broken", believes that indeed it is disappointing.

Refusing to do so, MSI requested AMD help (the laptop featured an AMD CPU) to take down his video. However, AMD took the reviewer side instead, as there is nothing wrong with the Youtuber, but there is with the laptop.

    MSI has yet to reply.

    On Twitter TechTeamGB says:

Linus actually replied to his story on Twitter with:

I am following the news and share any details that comes out

    Source / Story:

Personally, I now have MSI on my blacklist of product to ever purchase, next to Creative Labs, Kingston and others.
I was considering their MSI ITX motherboard for my new built, now I prefer to spending more and get someone else.

    Update:
GamerNexus releases talking about this, including their own experience with MSI
This has been ongoing for a while now with MSI.

rhyseyness got a reaction from rice guru in Is there a better 7.1 soundcard than Sennheiser GSX 1000?
    Good stereo > virtualisation.
Virtualisation is gimmicky and imo doesn't improve your ability to tell where a sound is coming from.
Virtual barber shop is the perfect example. You don't need virtualisation to be able to place where the sound is coming from.
The same is true of games.
The only reason to buy an amp/DAC/soundcard is if your headphones don't get loud enough or your onboard audio sucks.
Those headphones will not see much benefit from a soundcard unless your onboard audio can't drive them.

I do not know if I need to replace it since it still has a reading. Under the resistor is black and looks burned. This resistor comes from a board in a soldering station with a built-in power supply. I open it up because I lost the ability to change the voltage on the power supply. It is the only part that looks broken. I should be able to remove it and test it once I find my old soldering iron. I will try to get you the reading as soon as possible. Thank you for your help so far.

rhyseyness got a reaction from CodeNova in Circuit Broad Capacitor Replacement
If this is a measurement out of circuit, looks like the resistor isn't dead.
Dead resistors will read open circuit (>2Mohm). Massively unusual for them to fail and read anything other than short or open.

As @Unimportant quite rightly says, you could be measuring something in parallel.

    This is not true.
You'd definitely need to replace a 0 ohm resistor because it forms a connection in your circuit, just like a wire link.
If a wire link snapped in half, you wouldn't say "you shouldn't need to replace it," haha.

Recently got some older video cards and thought I would show why it is a good idea to clean, check, and replace the old thermal compound! Some of these I have had for quite sometime as well.

Please add your photo's as well! I still have 5 more to add, but need to get some more thermal compound. I cleaned and replaced all the thermal compound with Cooler Master brand as that is what I had. Would of liked to have used Arctic Silver 5

Something about his sage-like expressions while Linus watches tech fail to perform is HYSTERICAL to me.
And after it fails and Linus is like, "Wait... Did this company NOT include this thing in their thing!?!?!?" Anthony has this smile and nod like, "You're right, and I knew it all along and never told you, because I dug ridiculously deep into this tech way before I wrote this episode. I just wanted to see if you could figure out why it doesn't work."

    Perfect.

rhyseyness got a reaction from clickme.sh in Seas Idunn DIY Speaker Build Log (FINALLY FINISHED)
    So it's finally here!
I've been planning/wanting to do this build for about a year, if not longer.
Finally got my s*** together and started it.

    Build Rationale

So I wanted a really good sounding pair of speakers.
I couldn't afford any thing like the quality of speakers I wanted.
    Solution: Build my own!
The theory is that these speakers should sound like they cost about £1000, but only cost around £300 each.
The speakers I'm building are the "Seas Idunn."
The plans can be found here: http://www.seas.no/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=380:idunn&catid=66&Itemid=365

    Parts

I have no wood working ability, so I bought the wood pre-fabricated, only requiring assembly. (From speaker-cabinet-kit.com).
Drivers and crossover components are yet to be aquired (coming from a company called Falcon Acoustics, waiting for my next pay cheque!)
Bass reflex tube and speaker terminals.
Tools, sealer, glue, wiring, stuffing, paint and polish all bought off of Amazon.
Amplifier is a Yamaha A-S501 (pay cheque after next, lol).

    The Build- Day 1

So I've never done this before and I'm just going off what I've read on the internet
The first day was getting the first speaker glued together, ready to be sealed and painted.
Day 2 will be doing the same on the second speaker.

Hope you stick around and see whether they are as amazing as I'm planning them to be!
I'm very excited to say the least!
No doubt there'll be a few hickups on the way!

EDIT: Finished on page 7 of this thread (Day 46)

It does! I know I'll probably be looking at 1080ti's or 2080 if I want Ray Tracing. But that monitor definately sounds like a good lead. I'll check it out ?

How do the Vega 56 and 64 power a 1440p panel though? Is it at the high refresh I'm looking for? I know gsync is a pricey tax. So if a free sync option and a red team card can fix the problem, I'm down.

Different GPUs have different amounts of shaders, texture units, and raster units, and also have different memory bus widths. So you definitely cannot just look at clocks.

The 1080 Ti is significantly faster than the plain 1080.
