You're so right, I really don't appreciate LTT having 10 second sponsor spots at the beginning that are designed to be easily skippable with a double tap or the two second mention of lttstore.com. I much prefer GN talking for 5 minutes about how amazing his new mod mat or disappointment shirt are. /s

You only have to double-tap twice instead of once. I don't see this as that big of a deal. How are they supposed to pay for everything if they don't advertise?

Why? I've read this a lot, but most of the time I see people saying he should've used a different distro, using certain methods that weren't apparent etc. It's also not like he doesn't shit on Windows.

Also this topic title is complete nonsense and it is CLICKBAIT. Seriously OP, you wrote a clickbait title, when you know the opposite is true. You may not like it, but it clearly works. So why write a clickbait title. Well?

Honestly, I think they should do this at this point. I think they would need to start with a sincere apology to Billet, retest it, and then they would likely still come to the same conclusion that Linus doesn't personally recommend it. I think from that point they could note that that is the approach they should have taken from the start and they could go more in-depth into the changes they are making going forward.

In light of everything I think the WAN show should take a hiatus until the internal investigation is finished and emotions have cooled off. Linus is clearly an emotional person and I don’t fault him for that. However, at this time I think a WAN show would pour fuel onto the fire.

The best thing I think they could do, would be to have the next WAN show be a community Q&A where all the management team is able to address the community concerns, provide an update on the new processes, and address the sexual harassment allegations.

You can get a similar setup for much cheaper through USB over Ethernet and a fiber optic HDMI cable. You just need to make sure the USB over Ethernet hubs are plugged directly into each other with an ethernet cable. This is what I use:

I dont know why people expect free services that cost money to serve you. to not just be free, but ad-free.

Youtube has never been egregious with ads, some creators sure, but not youtube itself, and premium is cheap.

The improvements in performance from intel to M1 basically made any need for more performance needless for like 90% of Macbook users. So M2 was just too soon.

iOS 16 goes back to the iphone 8 from 2017
iOS 15 goes back to the iphone 6S from 2015

Every device gets regular security updates on the latest supported OS for that device, even if that OS is not the "current" one.
iOS 12 which goes back to the iphone 5S from 2013 was last updated this August, 57 days ago.

That's planned obsolescence right there ladies and gents. They diabollically plan for your phone to break down only 9 years after purchase.

Sorenson reacted to hishnash in Apple policy document admits withholding security fixes for devices not on the latest supported OSes
Apple typicly will update os versions of devices that cant be updated for many years for sec updates. The os versions they do not provide sec updates for are os versions were every device that can run that os version is also able to run a newer version that does have the sec update.    Its not uncommon for there to be multiple year long spans of os versions were every single device can be upgrade.

for example iOS 12 continues to get sec updates but there are no sec updates for 13, 14 as every device that runs 13 also runs 14 and also runs 15.  That is what this document is saying... if you device supports a newer os version apple is not going to ship sec updates to your current os version you need to update your os to the newerest version it supports to get the sec updates.

Sorenson got a reaction from mrchow19910319 in M2 macbook pro VS M2 macbook air VS M1 macbook pro 14 inch which one to choose for longevity as well as future proofing ?
I have the M2 MacBook Pro and my mom has the M2 Air, both are great. The M2 Air is better screen/speakers if you aren’t going to constantly use it for heavy video editing (not that the M2 Air can’t be used for video editing). You’re fine with the MBA on any storage, but the 256gb is slower then the 512/1tb models. I wouldn’t go with the MBP 14 unless you’re a power user since it is a lot bulkier and most people won’t need the power.

The only reason I didn’t go with the M2 Air is my mom got the MW MBP through work rewards points. She wanted the Air so I ended up grabbing her the Air and taking the MBP. With that said, the M2 MBP is an amazing computer.

Sorenson reacted to Tegneren in Specifically for gaming, how much does a CPU really matter?
Yes, its the CPUs job to deliver the frames that the GPU has to draw out, so the higher the FPS the harder it is on the CPU. This is why you can see bigger difference between CPUs on low resolution. At higher resolution like 1440p and 4K the load is shifted more to the GPU.
In addition to the frames its also the CPUs job to do physics simulation and tracking objects, so if there are a big open world with a lot of movement, explosions and things falling its harder for the CPU than in more closed off linear games.
So the CPU utilization depends a lot on the type of game you are playing

Sorenson got a reaction from Hi P in Specifically for gaming, how much does a CPU really matter?
It depends on what frame rates you want. If you're going 240hz then you need a fast CPU. If you're going for 144hz you don't really need anything over a 5600x. If you go too low end you'll get frame inconsistency which you can definitely feel and won't show in benchmarks that are only looking at average FPS.

It’s fine unless you bought the pc to run cinebench. Monitor temps in your actual work and then worry if it gets too hot.
