  1. Hey everyone, I'm looking for a device to allow me to not walk between my computer and my plasma cutter with a USB stick. Basically what i need is something similar to this: https://www.sandisk.com.au/home/mobile-device-storage/connect-wireless-stick BUT i want it to be able to connect to my current WIFI network and remain plugged in on my plasma cutter. (the plasma cutter isn't PC based or anything, so adding WIFI to it isn't an option) basically what i need is a little wireless NAS that acts as a USB drive at one "end" of it. Is there anything out there? or any other option? Cheers, Trav
  2. Looks pretty good, but shipping date Jan 2018 is a bit far out.
  3. hey guys, After some help deciding on what monitor I should be looking at. Comp specs are: i7 7740x @5ghz with gtx1080 I mostly play FPS games and also do a bit of CAD work. I currently have a 24" aoc 144hz monitor. I definitely want bigger, but the question is how much bigger and what should I be prioritising? 1080 vs 1440? 27" vs 34" ultrawide curved? 60hz vs 144hz? response times? I'm looking to spend about the $700 AUD mark, give or take and I'm leaning towards an ultrawide curved monitor, mainly for the immersion factor. What's everyone think? Cheers, Trav
  4. Wasn't planning on changing now, just interested in whether my decision making was sound. (which it seems it still is mostly) Like I said, this is my first upgrade in like 8 years (apart from a little bit more ram and an SSD) so I'm not really the type to upgrade constantly, but my last build had the top of the line CPU for it's chipset, so when it wasn't good enough anymore I needed a new cpu and mobo (and compatible ram) This way I can get a shit ton more performance out of my computer without upgrading EVERYTHING at the same time. I imagine i'll probably have this computer for at least 4 years, maybe more (depends if I find a game that needs more than it can give ) To make your upgrade desire twitch... my keyboard is about 12 years old...
  5. My thoughts there were that it was cheaper (by about $70aud when I was buying IIRC), had already shown great overclocking results (better than 7700k) and better gaming results (what I mainly do, with a bit of CAD thrown in for good measure). As for PCIE lanes and quad channel, I figured they would both be things I would only need when I go for an upgrade in the future, so no point getting a cpu that allowed half and upgrade later when I could spend less now and more later, when the same thing is cheaper... if that makes any sense at all.
  6. That's kind of what I was thinking, there is currently much higher end CPU's than I currently have that suit the mobo I bought, whereas the z370 top end is close to on par with the 7740x (with better multicore performance obviously) I didn't really think about the fact that its high end vs mainstream. I guess there isn't really anything to discuss.
  7. Hey everyone, I just recently built a new system (first time I've done so in about 8 years) and I went with an X299 with an i7 7740x, that I'm running at a stable 5ghz (could probably get more if I tried) My question is, have I made a mistake in going for the kaby lake x in an x299 chipset as far as upgradability is concerned? is x299 going to die out very quickly now that z370/coffee lake is around? Discuss.
