The motherboard is crap, there is no reason to pay that much for it. The Pro4, Prime Plus, Strix, Krait and Carbon are all decent B350 boards. Don't be tempted by the lower end Gigabyte X370 boards, they are just as bad as the B350 boards. MSI's X370 boards are the same as the B350 boards.
Don't get 2x 4GB, get 1x 8GB, and at a faster speed. The G. Skill Aegis 3000 MHz costs $80. 
The SL308 is decent, and costs $20 less than the 850 Evo.
The V550 for $55 after rebate is a nicer PSU at a very good price, if you want that. 

I dont think they will remove the notch on the iPhone X's or whatever next years one is called, it will be an iconic part of apple's design and all the app developers will have refined their apps for the X's display in a years time so they wouldnt make them do a whole new design all over again. 
 
Ive been using the X since I got it on launch day and I have to say I kinda like the camera notch thingy in the display. It makes the phone quirky and stand out from other iphones, when im using app's fullscreen I dont feel it gets in the way and likewise with videos nothing's really happening over on the far left side that I feel im missing out on, the display looks beautiful enough for me to ignore the notch.
 
Its completely personal preference but speaking as someone whos been using the X, I definitely love the experience, of course, others will have different opinions on the notch, youll just have to remember some of them people wont have had the experience of using the phone in everyday use and without using it the notch dosent look like a great thing to have,
 
The 6s is good, I came from the 7+ to the X and love it but its down to you

If you want a phone that works, keep your 6S and wait for 2018 iPhone
 
Else go with the Note 8, the Pixel 2 XL has many issues regarding quality control (check /r GooglePixel2) and I wouldn't recommend buying it now
 

Someone has to be "that guy" in this thread. All of the things that Apple says are NEXT GEN FUTURISTIC OMG on the iPhone X, has been something android phones have been having for the previous 5 years. There is literally nothing futuristic or new on it that would make the price tag make sense.
 
As a tech shop owner, i'd recommend to you, as i do to everyone, if you want a fluid-smooth phone experience with no issues and money isn't an issue either, do go with an iPhone, but not the X. Keep the 6 if you're smart.
 
If you want to use your device like it was meant to be used and don't want to be limited by the OS, go for an Android, in your case, the PIxel.
 
P.S.: In case you wanted to know, i just bought a S8+ (which is supposed to be on par with the Pixel and X) and it is awesome but i am disappointed with the battery. I have to charge it every night even though i don't spend the whole day on it. But performance and feature-wise, it's amazing. I was deciding between the pixel and S8+, and i decided to give the S8+ a chance as i've been a happy samsung user for the previous 5 years and i'm not disappointed.

I have looked at them, they just didn't strike a cord with me. 
 
 
I will keep that in mind. I am pretty good about managing my phone for things like that and so far I haven't had any noticeable slow downs. 
 
It really does seem like the price is my biggest issue. Normally I do not care. New Apple watch? Sign me up. But at 1000 or more for something I am just not that excited about? It is hard for me to pull the trigger.

Maybe the two choices presented weren't necessarily the best?
 
I mean, out of the two, I'd happily go iPhone X. But to buy into a first-gen design at $1000 - $1150 isn't the most wise given there could be flaws (or something much better could come with time, since this is only the first generation of this design.) But an iPhone 6s is barely worth upgrading from, considering it still performs perfectly fine under iOS 11 (unlike the iPhone 6 and 5S, in which case I would've come out of the gate with a definitive decision.)

Back it up to a computer and factory reset it. Should fix any slow downs

That is kind of what I am hoping for. The tab out for the camera is what I really think loses me. 
 
Eh, at this point I will take advice from anyone. I appreciate all comments. And I agree, there are some things that Google could have done better with the device. 

I would just get the X, for status and bragging rights.
It's a very unique phone.
Also, if you're been using the apple ecosystem for such a long time you're kinda locked in with itunes and icloud and all that stuff.
Switching to android would basically be like wiping everything and starting over.

Honestly, I'd tell you to keep your 6S Plus for now and upgrade next year or the year after. At that point, Apple will have refined the full-face design further
(possibly even with a reduced sensor array), Google will have completely ironed the display issue out and your 6S Plus will likely be slow enough to warrant an upgrade.

I'd keep the 6s +. It's definitely not a slouch, nor does it move backwards on the practical featureset.

Well i switch a long time ago back when the Iphone 4 came out and I have been an apple fan boy since then my android phone before was running Eclair. Iphone However i'm in the reverse boat of you lol. I just got the new Iphone I'm not a fan of it. It feels like and android phone running IOS (in a weird way). It doesn't feel like an Iphone. I'm thinking about switching to the Note 8 after using it.  But I think it will be a difficult switch considering i have about 10 years of apps and saves on my IOS devices

Get a used Lenovo T430 or T430s. Slap in an SSD and upgrade it to the 9 cell battery and you've got an all day Productivity/Netflix machine

its not the worst thing in the world, the hard drive is pretty cringe though

Getting my PC set up for PUBG streams, I found this to be a remarkable value. The Blue Yeti goes for around 110 USD, and the cheapest I found the C922 is 80 using a promo code from logitech directly. Kicking myself that i had already jumped on that assassin's creed bundle for the yeti - then wanted a change of camera interface.

Speak for yourself, every lady I've met has melted like butter once I pulled out my Cherry MX Red keyboard and heard that smooth click and felt the tactile feedback
