  1. Oh, I really like that, and the shelves would definitely be able to house the modem/router & UPS on it nicely! Thanks for your input I will run by Ikea later this week (just went last weekend briefly) and see how she looks in person. Edit: How sturdy is the desk as far as bumps? I have a 3yr old running around and he likes to climb in my chair and lean into my desk "To be like me" and when he leans, I more mean falls into and lets the desk catch him LOL. My stuff gets shaken around a bit from time to time.
  2. Thanks for the reply! to reply to a couple of your comments. I actually live in an apartment and how it's setup (quite tacky imo but landlord wont let us drill holes in the walls) is the splitter is right behind the front door, with a cable tucked under the trim to the living room and my room. Both cables being about the same length give or take a foot. I have no way to really place the router behind the front door without it getting smashed when our kid shoves the door open lol. If I place it within my desk It'll allow me to remove the floating shelf and clean up the room, while making the sacrifice of adding at most an 8foot cable extension tucked under the base boards. When I say battlestation, I more mean a tech/nerdy workstation. I do a lot of professional grade photography editing and such so it isn't really purely about FPS. I am mostly concerned with how to go about placing the UPS on/near the desk for ease of use. Also being able to move the modem/router will allow me to combine the cable management within my desk cable tray and such. As it sits, the floating shelf was a temporary placement so I have 2 power cords, cable cord, Ethernet(?) cable from the modem to router, and all that jazz ran down the wall. Didn't want to install a cable runner yet as like mentioned, it is just temporary. I have crept the show off your setup, but most people tend to use power strips, or have offsite places they hide their UPS and use long extension cables for power. I don't really have these means as my closet is like 3ftx3ft and filled with clothes & storage totes while I save to go house shopping. Thanks again! Josh
  3. Hello, So as I patiently wait for my NFC Skyreach 4 mini to arrive, I am trying to just my battlestation set up and ready. I need some help on how I should go about building my battlestation to keep it clean and minimal. I currently use a basic 48" Ikea desk and there isn't enough room to hold my modem router and UPS. I need to redo my setup in order to cleanly hold all this while keeping all my PC gaming needs confined to my desk. Currently the UPS is sitting in my closet still brand new because I can't figure out how I want to get it near the desk without appearing tacky. My modem and router are sitting on a little floating shelf by the cable outlet temporarily and is rather just in the way with how my room is setup. What desks and organization extras would you all recommend? Budget: $500 Goals: Clean minimal setup, enough room and organization methods to house my computer, 1 34" ultrawide monitor, modem, router, cyberpower 1500 UPS, and able to manage all the cables and such. What I'm looking for: Need help on picking out a desk, legs/stands, and any form of organization to be able to house the UPS, modem, and router neatly.
  4. all politics, marketing and money. Media outlets get publicity and monetary revenue due to increased traffic, I'm sure an AMD affiliate company started the hype about intel, then intel came back and said oh yeah well AMD is vulnerable to this exploit etc etc. Then they will start selling "Meltdown & spectre resistant hardware" and people will buy into it and make it another billion dollar market lol. Practice safe usage on your computer, be mindful of what you visit, download, and run, and be fine. I haven't had any viruses or trouble in the last 10 years and going strong.
  5. I think people are getting just a bit carried away. The flaw was discovered by security researchers. This isn't a currently practiced exploit and it's doubted that people even have the resources to carry out this exploit. It's effected all intel cpus since like '95 and never had a problem.
  6. There are quite a few UV coolants out there. Looks like just a basic yellow or orange UV coolant and the purple/blue colored lights would be the Blacklight/UV-A light that causes the reaction for the glowing effect.
  7. My apologies, delidding is such the "norm" with S4 builds it kind of slipped my mind. As for the m.2 does anyone know if mounting it on the front with an EKWB m.2 heatsink vs mounting it bare on the rear of the board would be ideal for m.2 temps? I will most likely test it, but if it's like FOR SURE that the rear will be cooler, I wont spend the 15$ on the heatsink if I know it'll be useless. Off the top of my head I'm thinking the big shuriken doesn't fit the S4 (could be wrong). However I do know it's been tested time and time again and for the most part the top 2 coolers are either the nh-l9i or the lp53 with the noctua fan. LP53 being solid copper + needing a new fan costs more, but from the testing I've looked at provided around a 2-3c temp drop over the l9i.
  8. Noise coupled with thermals will be a big obstacle but I'm pretty sure I've read nearly every build log over the last 4 months or so waiting to get a NFC S4. Since it'll cost me nearly 50$ in tools to Delid, I am opting to pay the 55$ I believe it is at silicon lottery for their delid service. CPU will be shipped directly to them first. Over thermal/noise remedies will be attempting to get a case fan or two mounted, and undervolting the CPU. I'll definitely throw up a build log once I get everything. Not quite true Guys running 7700k/1080s and one guy with a 8700k/1060 or 1070 on SFF. All under thermal throttling limits. Real problem I have a feeling will come down to balancing noise with the exhaust heat from the little case.
  9. I am in a similar position. I essentially live with my GF and her slightly over 3yr old son. I personally play Oldschool RuneScape. I typically will participate in clan events when they are both out and about, and then more AFK skilling when they are home so I can easily logout at any time with no ill consequences.
  10. I just placed my preorder for the January shipment of the new NFC Skyreach 4 Mini case. I am trying to pick out parts and get everything laid out in my head to hopefully have it setup and thermals managed in a reasonable time. I also am about to purchase the G-Unique archdaemon PSU with the ultimate brick as soon as I get the invoice to purchase it. Here are the parts I have so far. Am I missing anything little I may be overlooking? Machine will be for primarily photo editing, gaming, web dev for a gaming forum, and very little video editing. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cDqC3F
  11. I just sold my 5820k rig with dual monitors to build a new 8700k/1080ti setup. My primary use is professional level photography and want a good monitor with a solid color range. I ran dual 27" 16:9 in the past, but the bezel in the middle made it rather awkward and typically found myself only using one monitor, then about 1/2 of the second just for reference images, youtube, spotify, or whatever I was using at the time. I have been looking at like 34" ultrawide monitors but can't decide on 1080p or 1440p. As mentioned I primarily do photo editing with light gaming. The main game I use is locked at 50fps (rather odd I find it) I time to time play some steam games but not typically. I want to stay under $500 if possible. The monitors with a good color & 60hz+/low refresh in 1440p come in around 500$ on average, yet I can get the same colors, 100hz+/low refresh in ultrawide 1080p for like 300$. Any recommendations on what I should get? I will add, I've never handled a 1440p but can only imagine it'll be extremely beneficial for both photography and the light web dev work I do. (I run a gaming guild forum with 1k+ members).
  12. Will likely give it another couple weeks to see if there will be more motherboard competition and hope for lower prices. As of now, this is likely what I will be ordering. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/z6mGyf I ofcourse will be shopping around to snag better deals when it comes to buying, PCPartPicker is just used for a rough price estimate and to keep track of my to-buy list. Still open to hear more suggestions and recommendations though. This isn't 100% set in stone as I still have a couple weeks.
  13. Thank you Molten! Will definitely look into these tonight.
  14. I am definitely not against Ryzen by any means. I've been contemplating a build for a few months so I've definitely looked into Ryzen. The only problem I have, is with my usage, the only thing that would make use of more than 4 cores is importing and exporting photos to/from lightroom. Although this can be a lengthy process, this is something I typically do right after I get home from a shoot. Plug my sd card in, then unpack my photography equipment. With my 5820k, I never had a single time I had to wait longer for importing pictures so I am thinking the 7700k/8700k is more ideal due to the high clock speeds. The actual editing part of photography relies HEAVILY on single/quad core usage. The editing is what takes hours on end, vs importing taking 5-10minutes This is just my reasoning, but you are welcome to chime in. I won't completely push something off due to stubbornness, only ignorance or the lack of knowledge on it. If you have good points, I am more than eager to listen. Thank you on the suggestion and indeed black fans would be perfect. I am at work, so any suggestions off the top of your head on specific models? I can dig into them myself later this afternoon if needed.
  15. I was actually probably going to switch to Grizzly so thank you for reinforcing my decision haha. Windows 10 would be obtained from kinguin, just left it on the list to show that I need Windows 10. As for backup, I use multiple external harddrives and in the works of obtaining a NAS for a more centralized backup plan. What fans would you recommend. That is one thing I didn't forget, just need suggestions. Appreciate your comment! Only problem with going Ryzen that I've noticed, is the fact lightroom, photoshop, and games are all pretty much 4 core optimized so the higher clock speeds benefit more. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong as I am definitely not opposed to being educated further. I am all ears. 8700k has 43% faster quad core speeds?
  16. Okay so I just recently sold my 5820k / 980Ti build and looking to upgrade. My main use is light gaming (little non competitive PuBg at the most) & Lightroom/Photoshop. My main goals is small form factor (small enough for carry on), quiet, and decent temperatures for its size. I was originally going to buy a binned 7700k to ensure I could undervolt it, or get a decent overclock with minimal/no voltage increase. Now with the release of the 8700k I'm stumped. 90% of my pc use will be lightroom and photoshop so I want to optimize it around those two programs .I will be purchasing an ultrawide (hopefully 1440p) in the near future and still want to be able to game if I want to which is the main reason for the 1080 (maybe I don't need that much gpu for UW1440p gaming?). With that being said is this build fine? Should I go back to the 7700k drawing board? What case fans would be ideal? Any other input/suggestions/tips? Thanks for any and all input. Build below https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tNzyGf
  17. Killer build man. Would you mind posting a little more detailed specs? Kind of curious on what fans you run, length of cables, and most importantly temps! haha. Actually sold my 5820k/980ti/64gb ram build 2 days ago, and just finalizing my part selection for a new NCase M1 build. I won't be water cooling yet, but definitely respect your hard work and would be nice to know if & when I watercool, what temps I could expect to see. I was hoping to get at the least a 4.5ghz clock and would ideally love to see 4.7ghz seeing as cpu power matters a lot when dealing with 100mb+ plus single images and multiple GB panoramic stitched shots.
