  1. To be honest, it sounds like you're comparing a nvme drive to a regular 3.5" HDD, your 2.5" ssd is bordenline failing due to being worn out, or it's nearly maxed out capacity wise and severely hindering performance. I previously had a 2.5" evo ssd and when I upgraded to my current 960 evo NVMe m.2, my load speeds at most increased 1-2 seconds in a select few games. and when I just recently moved all my games on to my crucial sata m.2 and the speeds are still nearly identical. (I have NEVER seen a 5minute load time on dishonored lol)
  2. Revamp

I've been working on a new headphone design.

Very nice, looks like a great start. You planning on having it manufactured, or is it just to pass time?
  3. This will actually be viewable which is why I am shooting for something quiet (as much as possible at least). So not really a fan of a rack mount style setup due to aesthetics unfortunately I am actually likely going to be looking into something like a Ncase M1 (maybe have some bracket made, or buy a bracket and attach it myself) or something a little premium looking (haven't counted that node 304 out as I used to have the define S and really enjoyed the look/quality, despite the 304 being more cube like). Thanks for everyones help in this thread. I think I have a good starting idea of what I want to go with!
  4. Thanks for your advice. I will likely take your words of wisdom then and do as you advised. Ahhh gotcha, yea I misread your post before this. My apologies. At work so trying to multi task heavily lol. Edit: Also with the build @Electronics Wizardy posted earlier, would it be more recommended to go with ECC ram or is that a bit overkill for my situation. The backups will be work from paid photoshoots so keeping them is rather important incase a client asks to have an image edited from a shoot last year etc.
  5. Actually when I mentioned 6-8 drives I was talking on quantity so I was wanting something that would support around 6 to 8 drives in whatever storage capacity I decide on. 4TBs should be reasonably cheap (in my opinion) and should hopefully suite my needs.
  6. Alright thanks! It's just what I've done in the past. Mainly because in my mind, say I use the same drive for 2-3 years, and just continuously back it up to a fresh drive and delete everything. Eventually the drive will fail. However this is why I will have redundant backup, but it's just always been preference. Any particular reason you say this isn't a good idea? Not to mention, typically ready made EHDD are more expensive, but then there is the option of buying an enclosure and just mounting a regular HDD as an external. Just seems quicker and easier to just pull the drives out, put in fresh ones and go about my business lol. But as mentioned I've never had a NAS so I don't know the difficulties thatll come with setting up new drives for that use.
  7. Much cheaper than I was anticipating on spending LOL. The ideal for end game is likely 2-4 4tb drives in raid for personal. Giving me 4-8TB of storage. Since it will be all photographs, I will likely swap out HDD every quarter or semi-annually, since I don't typically have to go back to archived storage often. so 4-8tb with a single redundant backup should be plenty for my use. For the seed box I am thinking 4 drives as well. When running it in a VM, how would I go about setting that up? I am assuming create the machine's setup on whichever drives I am wanting to use for seeding, and just allocate like 85-90% of the drive space to that virtual machine in order to let it use the majority of the drive and giving it some lee-way for extra files that may be generated? I am assuming create 1 shared folder with the host and VM, so I can just drop the torrents into the folder on the host, and the VM automatically picks them up and starts?
  8. I am not saying it won't fit, but PCPartPicker doesn't show it compatible with that case, and even on corsair's website, they recommend the h80i v2. H80 is under $100 usd so well under your 100 euro budget and would cool it just fine assuming you're not going for world record overclocks ofcourse.
  9. What's your budget? Can always go watercooler AIO. Or the Noctua D9L is a little 92mm air cooler that's I believe 110mm height. Has good heat dissipation (140w+ TDP handling) and not loud.
  10. So I am wanting to create a 24/7 NAS/Seedbox. I will be seeding Linux distros but would like to keep my nas separated incase of a malicious distro. I am preferably wanting to keep it within 1 smallish compact case with support for up to 6-8 drives. I am trying to keep it as quiet as possible, cool, and very compact as I don't have a whole lot of free space. What would be an ideal cpu/mobo/alternate host for building something like this? Or would there be a recommended software method to keep the seedbox files separated from my personal files? I've never had a NAS, just with photography, I am filling up my drives quite fast and feel this would be beneficial to my work primarily. I am wanting to keep it around $800-$1000 for initial investment, then I can add drives as I need/see fit.
  11. Wet sanding is pretty foolproof, literally just toss a few pieces of sandpaper in some water, or sand it under running water. However getting the acrylic out can sometimes be tricky. Some cases are easier than others doing this. If you try to sand it while it's still installed, you will likely scuff the case's paint.
  12. No problem, this also works for headlight/taillight repair for scuffed up headlights. Just make sure the damage isn't on the inside or it's pointless lol.
  13. Wet sand it with some very fine grit sand paper, wipe off the sanding debris with wet wash rag, let it dry, wipe again, spray with clear coat.
  14. actually 750mm I am assuming is the height, is 30 inches tall in imperial. This would be like 300mm of space over the fractal design focus G (as well as MANY other cases), so top fans would NOT be useless. In your space, you have soooooo many options. I suggest just looking on any computer part site for mid tower cases.
  15. Most cases are setup for front/rear cooling (top cooling as well, but can do fine without). I don't think I have really seen many side cooled cases that were reliant on the side cooling. For the space why don't you kind of give us a run down on the measurements, mobo form factor, etc.
  16. Don't these types of threads get locked real fast?
  17. You made it sound like snipping some random wires and adding a molex end. If you have the parts already to make a molex connector, make your own splitter? Crimp 2 wires off each of the 4 connectors to make 8 wires hanging out. Split them 4 and 4 and crimp them into 2 separate connectors so you effectively have a single male(?) to go onto the female end coming from a PSU cable, and splitting into 2x females(?)?
  18. So you need extra molex connectors, can't you just buy a 3$ molex Y-splitter...
  19. @Shabadoo Yeah autohotkey would be very easy. Then you'd just open notepad, save it as whatever.ahk and setup your macros. This code would make it type "This is just test verbiage" everytime you pressed the "e" key. P.S. been a while since I messed with AHK so the sendinput command might be wrong, but this is how easy it would be. e:: SendInput, This is just test verbiage Return
  20. Now they will start putting labels on HDD stating don't break the platters. Just like they now mention not to eat tide pods LOL.
  21. Case, LED, acrylic sandwich Looks like I may have to go this route. Just was hoping to find some that was slim and had a diffuser attached so I didn't have to go buy acrylic and DIY (I'm lazy LOL). Thanks for the post!
  22. I was wondering if anyone knew of any small diffused lights that would work with the Asus Aura Sync? I am using the NFC Skyreach 4 Mini case which is very small with large, open, see-throughable ventilation holes. I was wanting to cast a soft lighting in the case so you don't really see the individual LEDS.
  23. I will say, I've bought around 25-30 Windows keys from kinguin and never once had a problem. Well I did have one issue but that was purely with the windows media creation tool being finicky so it had nothing to do wth Kinguin. I just recently picked up a windows 10 pro key for my recent build, and within the last month or two, helped 2 friends and my cousin all build a computer that went through kinguin for windows as well. Edit: I will say, don't just pick the cheapest listing though, instead pay the 1-5$ premium and purchase from a seller with really really good feedback.
  24. I would have never heard about this but now I'm kind of intrigued lol. It will be interesting to see that large of a building, with surrounding buildings so close, be demo'd. I'd also say if JMX Contracting is successful with no hiccups, they just boosted their contracts through the roof in the future lol.
  25. I don't use frontier, but when I moved into my apartment Charter still came out during the rain for my initial install. I will say it only took them like 5-10mins outside and they wore rain ponchos, then the majority of the time was running the cables inside, installing the splitter, and setting it all up so it wasn't a super big deal.
