I would start small. Hiking would be a long day, plus the drive. Start with something close by that doesn't require a huge time investment. Also something that let's either one of you bail if things go south. Bowling is one idea.

That seems pretty unwieldy trying to position the entire board to snap into place vs lining up the cut outs.

It would make installation considerably more annoying.

Right now I'm just running Microsoft Wireless Display adapter from my main PC and a powerful remote....
Gets the job done, but by apartment is only one level.

It's fine for anything but gaming.
I've done Raspberry pi with Kodi and a 2nd PC for the living room, and it always feel like an "extra step" to get functionality that I'm used to at my desk. If you're just browsing the web and watching video it is 95% of the desktop experience you get. The 5% depends on the number of walls in your house and the remote/keyboard/mouse you choose to use.
Frankly, it's better than using my smart TV's software for youtube/nextflix/whatever and has the added bonus of being able to seamlessly continue to work on whatever I was doing at my desk.
Audio might be an issue for you depending on your setup. I use bluetooth headphones and speakers regularly. Though I do have audio cables running from my PC to my bedroom and living room.

elkenrod reacted to just tilt in What Anti-Virus do you use? if any?
Idk, I use none tbh... I just don't have any sensitive material on my computer that I wouldn't want to be stolen, and I just take care of what I open on the internet. Simple as that.

I won't need anything else because I just use my head.

elkenrod reacted to Quinnbeast in What exactly is a "HTCP"
First off, it's worth noting that the term HTPC was first coined at the end of the 90s, far back enough that even the humble DVD player was relatively new to the market. It's easy now to look at today's streaming boxes and wonder what the fuss is about, but at the very least, it ignores the decade or so preceding all of the gear we now take for granted.
The hardcore fans of the HTPC will tell you that a gaming PC plugged into a television is exactly that. It's a PC with a big monitor. Some of the things that define what you might deem a "true" HTPC is that it's as easy to use as a set-top box (i.e. decent remote control / IR receiver on the case / TV-friendly GUI), that it would fit in aesthetically with typical A/V equipment, but with the functionality and power of a PC + any extras you might want. If you go back 15 years (and much of this remains true today), and you want to watch a DVD, play a video game, record live terrestrial / cable / satellite (w/ pause-rewind etc), play back your own ripped films and CDs from fast HDD storage etc, then you could easily need four or five boxes for all the different functions of a single well-equipped HTPC.
My plasma TV has lost nearly all of it's smart functionality - after 4 years, most of the support was dropped for the streaming channels. The Roku that I now use is a brilliant piece of kit that is easily worth the price, but an HTPC it isn't.

they are amazing to take with you on holiday somewhere so you can hook it up to the hotel tv or something and use it with a wireless keyboard and use it as a media center/nas or something like that. come home, offload holiday snaps and look at them on the tv. and after that kick back and watch a pirated movie or catch up on the news from home via kodi.

You know what guys? Be happy with what you get. If you don't want the texture pack, then don't download it. It is as simple as that. No one is forcing you to get it.

That Celeron though....
What can it even do? I wouldn't spend all that money for just a word processor.

i use the name "facebook machine" very specificly here, because that is quite literally good for nothing more than facebook and word processing, even putting it up for consideration to be used in computer science is a pretty far stretch that may require medical attiention

The AI driven car stuff is getting better and better. Most of us just aren't wealthy enough to take advantage.
In five years I expect these cars to be within reach of us mere mortals. Then we will look back and appreciate the humble beginnings at CES.

in seriousness, I feel bad for the employees who were responsible for the product. It's easy to lose track of product and personal gear at busy conventions like that. I would absolutely have had survellience in the booth, but it may have well been sniped during transport.

RASPBERRY PI - INFORMATION DISPLAY
I thought ill show off my first project with the raspberry pi.
Items:
Dell 1901FT - Screen (Was Collecting dust in the addict) 0 $
1,5 m of steel wire - thin. (Had some left from hanging pictures) 0 $
Raspberry Pi - 40$
2 screws - Philips head - 0 $
1 old micro usb cord - 0 $
1 usb phone charger - 0 $
1 DVI to HDMI - I stole one from my brother that he had laying around. 0 $
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Started removing the bezel and stand from the Dell monitor.
2. Screwed off two of the USB ports from the screen. And secured the raspberry on the back of the monitor using those screw holes.
3. Used the steel wire from the old stand bracket that was on the back of the screen.
4. Connected all the cables and installed the microSD card with NOOBs on it.
5. Once connected I went in to the terminal and followed the setup provided by http://dakboard.com/blog/diy-wall-display/.
6. When all the lines where implemented in the terminal a simple reboot and I was all set.
7. Used my power tool to implement two screws in the wall and then I just hanged the monitor up connected the power and Voila! Simple.
It displays Calendar, Weather, Time and Date, And RSS-Feed from local news, and To-Do Lists. And for only 40 $ I think its super fun project to do.

+ Screws
Connect the 2 monitors via the VESA Mounts then use the stand of the bottom monitor. I have shelf that works like this on my wall mounted TV.
warning this would be very top heavy and might break your monitors stand. Also depending how the stand works it might not work at all.
