As other people have said, this looks pretty awesome for some sort of raspberry pi project. its large enough to cut some holes for buttons, switches, etc. ive spent the same amount for super tiny boxes that barely give me room to do anything.

Well this can't be good, Vega 64 could be great for mining
elkenrod replied to DoctorWho1975's topic in Tech News
I called this in another thread! given the high price, and the disappointing benchmarks/lack thereof last month, I figured there had to be AN AREA where AMD could tout a benefit. The blind tests didn't seem compelling at all, which only left mining results. Mining performance is the new gaming performance. As long as a GPU manufacturer can claim significant mining results over the competition, the cards will sell very well. Well done AMD if these results are accurate. -
I like the idea of this. You can make it real fancy. Try a larger frame with a nice finish, Hobby Lobby has cheap frames. Perhaps some fabric to go behind. This is is better than having old parts waste away in a basement.

I'm just here to see if anyone mentioned Linux... i wasnt disappointed I would just get whatever OS is the cheapest. The variance in performance on that rig isn't going to be large enough to matter?

I don't know that recording to an SSD is "bad" per se. Perhaps if your SSD is small and space is a concern. All of the conversations regarding SSDs being bad for recording that I have seen are referencing older SSD tech.

Some perspective is key. If someone said in 2015 that AMD would be competitive in both cpu AND gpu performance by 2017 we would call them a crazy person. AMD has fixed their cpu problem. Let them generate some cash, and I'm sure they can do better on the gpu front. Cpu performance is and should be the priority as it's going to secure their future.

What if the jokes on us, and Vega mines alt-coins really well?

i can't wait to get home and look at some of these bar graphs. I also enjoy the clamoring for an AMD cpu at the pentium price point. Like who are the people that care about this stuff that still buys pentiums?

Sennheiser HD 280 : My first pair lasted me just about a decade. Second pair had an issue and was replaced by the company without issue. Fractal Design Cases: Front panel broke, due to my handling of the unit, and Fractal sent me a new one quickly with no questions asked. Ergotech monitor stands: The build quality is worth the money. I don't have to worry about mounting several expensive monitors at a height that would break them if they fell, because they will not fall.

Sci Fi movies promised us TV screens as large as our living room wall. We certainly won't want to watch 1080p content on an 8' wall. 8K and beyond is very welcome.

Bluetooth 5.0 USB Dongle or PCIe card available?
elkenrod replied to Catalonia's topic in Networking
You seem to know a bit about bluetooth 5. Instead of me trying to sift through tons of documentation, perhaps you can help me. When the dongles eventually launch for 5, will we be able to use dual audio mode with older bluetooth speakers/headphones? -

Weird issue with ISP visiting a website....
elkenrod replied to Skiiwee29's topic in Troubleshooting
Savage response. -
I've had this happen. In my case, it was one of the usb devices I had connected that was holding things up. It was happening in both windows and Linux. If you have a ton of usb hubs and devices attached, try disconnecting some, or try different ports. hope that helps.

What electronics do you take on the road?
elkenrod replied to Sirgeorge's topic in General Discussion
If I'm going to be staying at a hotel for more than one night, I bring a raspberry pi and a keyboard/remote. It has saved me a number of times. Connecting to hotel wifi with a phone isn't exactly safe and I don't want to use my phone's data to watch videos or browse stuff online.- 19 replies

Do I need an Optical Drive to install drivers?
elkenrod replied to cgw352's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Yeah, sometimes you need a driver for your motherboard's network interface. You can have a hard time trying to download a driver if that's the case. -
it's only a matter of time... All that data is just sitting there, waiting for someone to take it..... Or purchase it.

We can only speculate as to how much money Apple would lose. Just as we can only speculate as to how much it would cost them to make their product "repairable". More importantly, you are correct that there can't be an "equal" playing field for everyone. This is why the congress and the Supreme Court use words like "reasonable" when talking about fees and taxation so much. for the record, I'm sort of indifferent on "right to repair." But I feel it only works if the federal government somehow were to mandate it.
