  1. Ive had synergy for 5 years or so. It can be quite fiddly and works best linking devices with static IPs rather than hostnames. Have looked to move to something else from time to time but havent found anything to beat it, or rather anything worth throwing more money at. Destop fusion, input director and multiplicity might be worth looking at.
  2. The missus and i are long over due an upgrade. We're using fairly old kit with a couple ex mining R9 290x GPUs. So as a thought to cost save and with current pricing and avalibility im considering a single prebuit with the aim to config it for us both to use. Unraid and dedicated GPUs still needed for that? Any ideas on what to steer clear off and what is a must have hardware wise? All recommendations welcome, cheers guys.
  3. https://www.teamspeak.com/en/downloads#ts5 TS have now opened up beta signups for TS5.
  4. Discord is a classic IRC with added voice comms and a modern UI, just like steam has just turned in to. the bots aren't anything new and have been about for decades, almost as long as IRC has. When it comes to the privacy concerns the bots are a huge hole in the fence, as it seems they aren't bound the same privacy policy's. (that i can find any references to at least, please go ahead look yourself.) Purly speculative but i can see this being a way discord dodges directly selling any data.
  5. on that note, i think microsoft will be taking part of their partnership with discord to fill that gap. https://www.theverge.com/2018/4/24/17275902/microsoft-xbox-live-discord-partnership-profile-link https://www.techradar.com/news/microsoft-partners-with-discord-for-cross-platform-friendships
  6. https://discordapp.com/privacy Their policy seems to allow for them to do so, dispite them publicly stating otherwise it all stems from the wording, non-identifiable user data is not personal data and can be sold (not saying its currently being sold). this can be text, images, links as they do not directly identify the user, its just content.
  7. Check out the New Steam https://steamcommunity.com/updates/chatupdate I think steam has already outplayed discord, reminds me of how Microsoft IE is the most used browser (because its there by default ofc)
  8. well its really hard to gauge the state of TS5 at this point. we have no details on its UI or functions at all, however as they have just updated their website with a rather small announcement that they are working on it.I can only assume that the data on the new site also applys to TS5 looking at the steam version which is actually beats discord on some key points for me. such as drag and drop users to invite them, voice chat specific text chat and the incorporation of the join game and trade options.
  9. on a slightly related note, I've just updated my Steam (beta) client and discovered that steam have basically duplicated all the good bits of discord in to the steam chat. Hell id go as far as saying its a carbon copy! with the added benefit of having all your steam friends and groups already included. Teamspeak 3 (skinned) vs discord vs Steam (beta)
  10. Finally it looks like Teamspeak are stepping up to compete with Discord, maybe even regain some of the users they lost as they have been sitting back so quietly over the years. Or is it too little too late for them? All I can find on it at the moment is: They picked up a new Logo (Ooooh) aimed at gamers. Revamped website and one small comment re TS5 : https://www.teamspeak.com/en/downloads#ts5 and a single tweet from them : Personally, I still run a 512 slot TS3 server and was just about to migrate to Discord but this news has holted me in my tracks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Edit: it seems Valve have also jumped on the bandwagon, with Steam Chat (beta) taking everything that is good with discord and merging it with their chat. some parts are really similar...Possible partnership going on? but then again Valve don't do sharing. https://www.techradar.com/news/steam-is-finally-getting-integrated-voice-chat https://steamcommunity.com/updates/chatupdate Just food for thought, if TS5 can 1 up them even more i think they will have a good chance.
