  1. I'm trying to find a somewhat elegant solution to have more than 4 displays without just buying another expensive GPU. I currently have a GT730 2GB that I would love to use, but since the GPU is currently not supported I would have to run old drivers on my 2070 super. I don't know if there is some sort of basic driver I could load? I am open to other suggestions as well. My goal is to be able to drive 5 monitors as well as use one output from my 2070 for a VR headset.
  2. My PC is an OEM system built by Dell, so it's just a Dell motherboard that isn't able to overclock anything. It's the same CPU that it came with but I upgraded the ram from 8GB to 16GB and now have a GTX 1060 6GB. I get good framerate in games but in VR I can't get 90 fps im assuming because my CPU usage is completely pegged at 100% and isn't able to keep up with the 11ms frame timings needed for VR 90FPS
  3. PC Specifications: CPU: i5-4460 RAM: 16 GB DDR3-1600 GPU: GTX 1060 6GB Ok, so I recently upgraded my GTX 960 to a GTX 1060 6GB, and I love the performance gains, but in certain things like VR and some CPU intensive games, my i5-4460 is PEGGED at 100%. especially in VR, since I am pretty sure the tracking is done on the CPU, in VR chat I am getting anywhere from 20-60 FPS in populated places, and my CPU is at 100% and my GPU is sitting at like 20%. I have been doing some research on what upgrade path I can take for my CPU. I have been looking at the i7-4770 as an upgrade, but I am wondering what sort of performance I will gain from 8 threads compared to 4, since the single core performance is about the same. Will all of my CPU bottleneck problems be solved from upgrading to the i7-4770? I am very limited on options as I want to keep my current motherboard and ram. But will spending ~150$-200$ on an i7 be worth it?
  4. I finally got it all working, what I ended up doing is reversing the OS's on the machines, VMware on the Host machines, and FreeNAS on the Storage. Both OS's can do the same things, but I could only create NFS shares on FreeNAS. So I created an NFS and shared it over the network and mounted it to both ESXi machines. Then I created a windows smb share and mounted the same directories and the NFS shares. I uploaded a windows 10 ISO and got to work making VM's
  5. Can I setup nfs as a service like I can with iSCSI?
  6. Oh yeah sorry, I was setting it up using iSCSI, and when I am connected to the ESXi web interface the only information it gives me is the error message saying it cant create a data store because it "cannot change the host configuration". with the research I have done one troubleshooting step was to make sure all the MTU values were the same and they were.
  7. I Intern at my career center that I go to for half of my school day. My teacher wants me to setup 16 VM's on some old HP Proliant servers. I have FreeNAS installed on one machine and the free version of VMware's ESXi host software on a storage server. Some issues I am having is that on the ESXi machine I can't get it to create a data store because it says it cannot change the host configuration, and I can't get either machine to recognize each other through the web interface so I can't setup any pooled resources. I am very new to networking and working with server hardware so any help will be appreciated, and don't worry, I am not messing with any infrastructure because these servers are no longer in use and are decommissioned. (EDIT: I am setting up the connection between FreeNAS and the VMware ESXi host with iSCSI because I only need the ESXi Host for storage for the VM's.) I can't get on forums from the career center so I can't really give much more information other than the specs I remember. FreeNAS Host (X2): (2X) Xeon E5540, 104GB RAM, no storage other than the FreeNAS install disk. VMware ESXi Host (X1): (1X) Xeon E5520, 4GB RAM, 2.8TB total storage with SAS drives.
  8. If I had a Ryzen 1600X for example with 6 cores 12 threads (Which I am thinking about buying), would I be able to use 4 threads for encoding and 4 threads for gaming and have 4 threads left over, or would I only be able to use 2 cores for encoding and 4 cores for gaming, and not have anything left over.
  9. If I had a Ryzen 1600X for example with 6 cores 12 threads, would I be able to use 4 threads for encoding and 4 threads for gaming and have 4 threads left over, or would I only be able to use 2 cores for encoding and 4 cores for gaming, and not have anything left over.
  10. Thanks for the advice! It's cool to see someone from Germany, I'm going to start a help desk internship at my career center in the next couple of weeks, next year I am taking the programming part of the course and learn about that. I am just worried that there will not be a place for me in a career field that I would love to get into.
  11. I'm currently a Junior at my high school, but I am studying at a career center to get my CompTIA A+ certification and get some networking and programming skills. Are there any particular jobs that I could look for for a summer job or internship maybe that would accept someone who is in the process of learning and getting their education, and possibly stay with after I graduate? I do already know a lot about computers, I am doing really well in my class but I want to get my foot in the door. I would preferably not get one of those install jobs where I just install internet and phone lines to peoples houses, although that may be one of my only choices.
  12. Any idea or news on if and when RAM prices will go back down for desktops? I want to build a new system but if ram prices go down to like $100 for 16 GB that would save a lot of money.
  13. Is there a good $100-$200 alternative to DX Racer/ GT Omega/ AK Racing chairs? Because my chair broke this morning and I don't want to drop $300 on one of the expensive chairs.
  14. Don't sound card only add 1 output, but to multiple channels for surround?
  15. I'm curious if there is any pc equipment like expansion cards that would add audio outputs so that I can assign different programs to separate outputs and have them show up in Windows?
