Removal of abstraction layers in graphics rendering is missing the point

they will be used. just not in their current implementation. When DX/Vulcan implement them as features (i plan on actually taking a deep look into dx12 and write a post about it so you all finally understand whats going on, when its released) they will see widespread adoption. Right now, they are the stopgap solution to that. kind of like "suggestions" to MS and Khronos as to what they should code in -

im just stating that we have gained alot, and we are gaining more with those vendor features, that always were present, and always will be. but sooner or later, an agnostic API implements them well enough so that they become irrelevant and vendors stop developing them. Its always like this, the newest is proprietary. (mantle, gameworks, physx) but it always comes into general use (dx12/vulcan, UE's physics engine, Havok, etc) -

because they use hardware that is validated to work in space. meaning sensors and optics that arent exactly the newest and shiniest, since they have to go through a validation process. also, The time it takes for the probe to get from earth to pluto is a while -
