  1. I'd love to see a video (or series) exploring some of the more esoteric WiFi variants that exist. Not just a Tech-Quickie, but a more a main channel "wouldn't it be cool if" type video. The big ones are the current state of WiGig/60GHz and HaLow (https://www.tomshardware.com/networking/super-long-range-wi-fi-works-at-a-range-of-18-miles-halow-standard-aces-a-real-world-test-despite-high-interference)
  2. Yes, Virtual memory is Physical + Page File(s). This isn't just a hwinfo value, but how the OS itself reports the values.
  3. Summary Lego instruction books are meant for a child to follow easily... can a computer handle the task? Quotes My thoughts The logical next step for this would be to tie it to a robot that could select pieces and build the project. Then miniaturise the robot and include it in the box. Self-assembling lego sets! Sources https://www.theregister.com/2022/07/27/lego_machine_learning_ai_framework/
  4. Some countries are already looking at legislation for this. A counter-point I always pull out for anyone who say games are bad for you without providing evidence is Daphne Bavelier's TED talk:
  5. Probably the best you're gonna get is the "Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer (do not dim my desktop)" option in UAC. It doesn't stop the popups, but doesn't entirely grab the focus of the PC either. Instead of vanishing the whole desktop and forcing you to look at it Now, it just pares it back to the yes/no dialog and nothing else.
  6. Oh, I'm not saying it would be super common, but it is the kind of weird & wacky that LTT usually goes for.
  7. Has anyone here done a build in a Nanoixa Dual System? https://www.nanoxia-world.com/page/content.php?content=news&newsID=1M16b9-KM87co-zj0000-ojhvov I've built in a Nanoxia case before and found it quite a pleasant experience (wasn't looking for flashy show-off bling or garish RGB so it worked great at a decent price), but just wondering if the Dual System is a gimmick or worth it. Would also be cool to see an LTT vid on it.
  8. I have several SLi bridges, but when I tried, the system wouldn't boot. I may have reached the limits of my knowledge at the time, and SLi wasn't a priority for me, so I couldn't be bothered to investigate. The cards were second hand from a friend who was upgrading and had used them in SLi, and I got them as a bundle. I'm know my system has AMD's virtualisation extensions, and I'm pretty sure it can handle PCI passthrough, but the last time I tried the only option was an experimental feature on the Xen hypervisor. Now it's in nearly every system, including bare-bones KVM.
  9. OK, so my current rig is as follows: ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z Phenom II X6 16GB DDR3 RAM MSI 560Ti Twin Frozr II Antec P180 (1st gen) Corsair AX860i Around 4.5 TB storage across multiple HDDs 2x Samsung Syncmaster 22" monitors As spare parts (ie not yet fitted) I have: FX-9790 Another MSI 560Ti (original plan was for SLi, but it couldn't make it work, so I took it out) Vaskey V800 640GB SSD I currently dual boot Win10 and Gentoo Linux, but I'm looking to rebuild with a VM solution so I can run both side-by-side instead of rebooting. My question to everyone here is what host should I use? I want something that is easy to setup and manage, and can pass through a graphics card to each VM. I also want a slimline a host as possible, even if it means a little more complexity. I'm leaving towards UnRaid based on Linus's adventures, but I'm worried it might be overkill for my preference. The trouble is the only alternative I can think of is to roll my own KVM solution with Gentoo (or Arch). Are there any other choices with considering for a workstation setup (with gaming, ofc) running 2 primary VMs (and occasionally other Linux distros when I want to experiment)? Sorry, if this is the wrong section for this kind of question.
  10. There is a standard called SDIO which is mainly used by SD card sized WiFi adapters, but you might find something that you can work with like: http://www.hwtools.net/extenderboard/EXM2E.html
  11. Potato Computer eh? What kind of "chips" are in it?
  12. In the past I've built an entire website around a Simple Machines Forum using the Articles Plugin, and you wouldn't know the forum was there until you went to edit a page. Alternatively you can try using a proper CMS. In the past, I would recommend the site of offerings from IPS (which I was pleasantly surprised to find in use here at LTT), but if money is tight, and you don't mind a learning curve to setup, try Drupal which is free and open source.
  13. Yes, to get live data you need to sign up to TFL's API which is accessible as a range of XML feeds. Static and semi-static information, like the location of bus stops or the published timetables for a given route can usually be grabbed on a daily basis, and you can then use the data to compare with a given map point for finding the nearest stop. This comparison would happen on your server. Once you know the nearest stop, you can request a live arrivals feed for that stop up to every 30 seconds, though every 1-2 minutes is recommended. The overall process is a bit more complicated than this, but I hope it serves as a basic primer to get you in the right frame of mind. You can check out more info here: https://api.tfl.gov.uk/
  14. Take a look at Mail Merge. It's a feature built into Word, and means you can create a basic template and then fill in the blanks using a simple spreadsheet from Excel. Don't let the name or examples fool you, you can use it form much more than just letters and labels. https://support.office.com/en-gb/article/Use-mail-merge-to-create-and-send-bulk-mail-labels-and-envelopes-f488ed5b-b849-4c11-9cff-932c49474705 In Word 2016, the features you want are all found on the "Mailings" tab of the Ribbon.
