you can set up dual boot, you would want to reinstall windows on your ssd though since it's a hardware change. as far as the storage, that would be plug and play, but would be accessible from both os's, if that is an issue. if you do set it up that way, make sure to disconnect all the drives except your ssd when you install windows, and reconnect them after.

Zmax reacted to minibois in Can I get a second 60hz monitor?
Nope, won't have a negative impact.
It will of course have a positive impact on having another screen to see more details on.

Zmax reacted to bmx6454 in Reinstalling Windows 10 which usb?
either one should work, i usually go with the regular one. worst case scenario, you have to go back to this menu and select the other, so no big deal if it's the wrong one.

Both get connected to the pc. If you have a dedicated graphics card, plug both in there and not the motherboard.

    As @zeusthemoose said.

Once both monitors are connected Windows should detect them automatically, then you can change options within the Windows display settings.

You are saying you had a fault move from one motherboard to another.

What travelled to the new motherboard?

RAM? CPU? GPU? PSU? HDD? SDD?

I would suggest that moving from MB to MB and carrying a fault with you, will likely not be fixed by a CMOS reset (do it anyway).

The only think you do not appear to have changed is the RAM.

I would suggest trying 1 stick of RAM at a time, in a single slot (refer to manual to see which slot you should use).

You may have a dead RAM stick.

Zmax reacted to Light-Yagami in Microphone gets detected by the PC but does not work (does not detect sound).
Possible solutions: reinstall sound driver, set mic as default mic device, update mic driver.

If it doesn't work - and mic work with other devices

Possible solutions: reseat sound cables that connect to the MB, invest into a sound card and plug it into a PCI port, change MB. In that order.

PS: reinstalling windows doesn't fix anything in most cases, and it never did for me. Refrain from doing it in the future. It takes up a lot of time and achieves nothing. Reinstalling windows is done for other purposes, but fixing a possible sound issue? No.

Zmax reacted to DailyProcrastinator in Can I pair the B450 Tomahawk Max with a Ryzen 7 3700x?
Yes, all MSI B450 'Max' motherboards support 3rd gen Ryzen out of the box. That said consider X570, while AMD had announced future CPU support on B450 this will be through what is likely a beta bios and stability will vary. If you are not 100% banking on a 4th gen Ryzen CPU upgrade then do not worry about this. Otherwise I'd recommend a 2x16GB kit over 4x8GB but all other parts look good.

put windows 10 on a bootable usb and install from there.

Windows 7 won't work on that system.

My guess of why its not working off the old drives is the old drive is setup in legacy boot mode, and the new one is set to uefi only.

Zmax reacted to xentropa in PCIe 4.0 GPU on a PCIe 3.0 motherboard?
PCIe has had backwards compatibility since its inception.  No reason to stop it now I would imagine.

Only drawback of putting a pcie 4 device in a 3 slot is that it will run 3 speeds which should be more than enough anyways.

I would do a clean install of windows 10. If you have no problem with the hardware I would reinstall Linux.

This is what worked for me when I was having a similar issue with a ps4 controller

1.) Right click on the Windows button and select Device Manager
2.) Expand Network Adapters and right-click on Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows and select Properties
3.) Under Power Management tab, untick the tick box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Zmax reacted to ChunkyPanda03 in Getting very high under load temperatures (90-95 c°)on ryzen 5 3600 stock cooler
it's the cooler's fault it just doesn't cut it and won't be able to transfer the heat quick enough while under load unfortunately. The only way to solve this would be to get a new cooler unfortunately. But now thinking of it for the meanwhile you could just crank for fans to the max in your bios settings by adjusting your fan curve, just remember that this will just get you by until you get a new cooler and is not meant as a permanent solution.

Use a Displayport or DVI to HDMI adapter.
Those can also display something on a screen and you have plenty of them:

What monitor will you be using?

Zmax reacted to Chunchunmaru_ in Is a VPN really useful when Working from home?
I think there is a misconception here, you are not using the classic "privacy-friendly VPN" that someone sells

When working from home you are supposed to access the company resources through their own VPN server without opening any useless resource to the internet
  25. Agree
Zmax reacted to Eigenvektor in Is a VPN really useful when Working from home?
You should be using your company's VPN server to access resources on your company's private network, if that is required to do your work. None of the VPN services on the internet can accomplish that (or should be able to accomplish that).

That is the primary purpose of a VPN: It creates a Virtual Private Network, that makes it so your computer is connected to your company's internal network as if your computer was directly connected to it. That let's you access resources on the internal network of your company.

The whole "VPN services for privacy" are not and should not be involved here, since that would mean they get access to your company's data, which I don't think your company would want to happen.
