I was able to find a .url for the Edu Panda in the windows startup this way but wscript still wants the directory and file name to exist... Wscript just seems like a good way to give people malware and annoy people into keeping it in its current state. Microsoft needs to fix this and allow users to tell Wscript to just ignore or stop certain request. Like you have to have the file you dont want their to even run any Wscript commands for it and Wscript does not even have any options to ignore shit or stop looking for shit... At least not that I know of or can find any documentation on.

On another not while I was using autoruns I was able to find and clean up some other misc small things that were middy amiss with my system. In any case thanks.

    Guys I need your help

my framework laptop has been broken for over a year with a display issue and framework refuses to send me a replacement display because I'm using a freight forwarding address (ordering from US then shipping it to my home address) they were happy to sell me a laptop to that address but refuse to ship me parts.

even though my laptop was under warranty when it broke I'm still happy to pay for my replacement part, but every time I try to place an order on their website they send me an email declining my order a day after, contacting customer service didn't help at all (they were very adamant not to ship me parts)

i hope someone here can share this post with Linus since no one else can help me

Would like to know what cpu cooler would fit nice on a budget and perform better than the current one if i was to try overclocking. Any GPU upgrade tips would be nice as i have noticed a bottleneck with the 1060 6GB.

Slayerking92 reacted to DarkJedi in I have data on Win95 floppy disks I would like to access.
Hello, I am a long time LTT YT viewer and just joined to get some advice about some laptop/data retrieval issues I've had that I really need to get worked out.

Please forgive me if this is not in the correct category/section.

I have a bunch of Win 95 floppy disks with who knows what on them. I know what some of it is, but not all of it. At the time I was using a Compaq Presario 1610 with Windows 95 on it, which I loved. Rang into some trouble power issues, and after securing a new power cord, I determined the battery is kaput. It will not increase in charge from 0%, regardless of how long it is plugged in. I can't remember what is actually on the laptop, but at some point the entire thing should be recycled. I would prefer no valuable info be left on it. I want to be responsible.

So, in seems finding  a suitable replacement battery for the laptop would simply bypass the majority of my issues. I have been unsuccessful in locating one online. Some possibilities led to roadblocks and dead ends. It has a USB port, so maybe using an USB drive to copy all the info from the computer is one option. This would allow me to then wipe off all info from the computer to allow me to recycle it.

Failing to locate a battery, then I need another means of accessing the floppy disks. This would indicate some type of USB external drive to plug into another device. This seems to lead to another problem as a Win10 laptop might not be able to fully read it correctly or I might just get jibberish, which I don't speak.

After the Compaq issue, I moved on to a Dell Latitude D630. I believe that was Windows 8. The wifi went out on it and I decided to move on to a newer and better laptop. The Dell still powers up as of the last time I used it. It also has info I could remove and then recycle it too.

I went with a Toshiba, but every time it tried to update to Windows 10 the trackpad and other functions didn't work. After several Geek Squad visits, I eventually exchanged it for an Asus Sonicmaster X555L, which I have used since. No significant issues. I have purchased an inexpensive external CD drive to cut down on wear and tear of the internal CD drive.

So, here is what steps I need to figure out:

    1) Locate replacement battery for Compaq Presario 1610, which goes a long way to eliminate the majority of issues.

Any advice on an online resource to locate a replacement battery would be appreciated.

    2) Failing to secure a replacement battery, I need a means of accessing the 3.5 inch floppy disks and removing the info from them. I have seen various external devices, but my concern is being able to read the data. Some are compatible from Windows 95 to a point further down the line, but not up to Windows 10. Anything listed as Windows 10 only goes back so far.

Is it possible to find one that can go from Windows 95 to Windows 8? At least I could *read* from the Compaq laptop to the Dell laptop. Then I could use USB sticks to copy the info.

Is there a one size fits all floppy disk reader that can safely cover from Windows 95 to Windows 10? Is there a method I am simply overlooking?

    3) I know there are ways to remove the memory from the Compaq and then access it. I would have to research that to find the most secure and suitable method.

    4) Providing I manage to work out these issues, do I then need to worry about formatting/being able to read it as I move up in operating systems?

Will I need some special program that can take Windows 95 data and change it so that when viewed using Windows 10 there are no problems? Are there programs that will pull all personal files/data/info off of the device so it can be rendered safe to recycle?

Any guidance, assistance, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...

I had posted this pic in another thread and suddenly got two comments that it was not a good idea.

One is for ducting air from the front of the computer to the down draft fan and cooler.

The other holds up a 2.5" drive that I don't have anywhere else to mount and also helps duct cool air from the side of the computer towards the front instead of just going right out the exhaust fan.

    Any better ideas?

This tutorial shows how to run an app that has, "This app has been blocked for your protection" error. This error is typically found when installing older software as the administrator from a CD in Windows 10 and 11.
This is NOT a tutorial to bypass restrictions on a user account.

Here is the error. As you can see there is no way to allow the program to be run despite being the only administrator.

To launch the setup without Windows blocking it, launch an Administrator command prompt.

Then, copy the file path of the installer. Make sure it looks something like this: "D:\Setup\setup.exe"

Paste the path into command prompt and it should work!

Now you can run that application!

Slayerking92 reacted to KageSong in I'd like to share this about Best Buy
I'll be fairly brief I hope, and I hope this is an okay topic. I know it's a bit spicy.

SOOO, please, for the sake of encouraging good business, never ever step into a Best Buy.
I've been dealing with call centers all weekend, essentially claiming they don't have a corporate office, or that I can't get to an actual manager, etc. Honestly, I'm learning disabled, and I was only trying to get a bit of help with the manufacturer's warranty on my TV. Eventually, during laundry day, I went up to the store 3 towns away, and the manager said if I bring the TV back tomorrow (today), he'd get it replaced at no cost. They'd told me on the phone they couldn't service it in store, so I didn't bring it with me. They'd said not to. So, I came back today, with the TV nicely boxed and taped. Even the booklets. And he said he doesn't have that TV, and I'd have to pay extra to replace it. Anyone who's ever shopped at Micro Center knows better than to EVER accept an answer like that. So, I didn't. I asked how to speak to corporate. He swore it was the 888 number, which, it is not, obviously. And those call centers proceeded to claim there was no corporate. Leaving the store, I was beginning to have panic attacks, and I have panic induced seizures. Two ambulances later, I'm on crutches. Best Buy still refuses to let me speak to anyone that matters. I do of course intend to issue a chargeback and work to seek a lawsuit.

P.S. - Toshiba (RCA which is actually the TV I was replacing, see edit) made a claim that no amount of dead pixels on a screen is considered defective, as they do not affect image or functionality. I'll let you determine your own thoughts on that.

Finally, I hope it's okay to share this review. I think it's important to pass things on.

    https://maps.app.goo.gl/Hbn8AtNA7bwRVudHA

Edit: So... I didn't notice until a further response from CurtisCS, aka RCA support, that the email about dead pixels being cosmetic was from them. To my knowledge Toshiba has then not responded. I had been confused because the issued I'd reported with the RCA was that a large portion (80%+ I suspect) now displayed just white and large artifacts. I don't have any guess to the cause. I was using it to watch YouTube live, at 1080p. As of right now, they've asked me to provide video. I'm think of the best way to do that, as the TV is currently put out of the way, but I intend to. They still seem to say that dead pixels are cosmetic only, when my friend's wife who has barely heard the term saw them and said it was defective immediately. I suppose it's left to be seen what Curtis says when I send imagery of the TV (I think I'll just hook in the xbox real quick for easy power and picture? roommate is tinkering with the remote somehow). So, I could end up with a pretty lucky break anyway, not that I'm any happier with Best Buy.

The reports of a toxic working environment really troubled me. To me, it was clear things needed to change after hearing the leaked audio of the team meeting, which really disappointed me. Since then I've been holding off on watching any videos or support of any kind until I saw some meaningful movement on that front, but over a month later I haven't seen any video addressing this.

Did I miss something? Was this ever addressed on the WAN show? I haven't seen anything in the forums either. They previously committed to sharing the results of this, but I'm worried they're now hoping people will just forget.

Slayerking92 reacted to Modinstaller in A curious layman wondering about the possibility of a netflix-like sharing system for ISP subscriptions
Today when I checked for ISP prices in my region, a thought occured...

Most subscribers will definitely use a ridiculously low amount of bandwidth. That's what the ISPs are counting on, right? They sell you a 100MBps bandwidth knowing too well that most people will barely use 1MBps at most a few hours a day. If everyone suddenly decided to use their maximum bandwidth all at once, the system would break.

And you'd think ISPs would design plans to accommodate all kinds of users. But here at least, they don't. Everyone basically pays the same, whether they are a huge p2p user maxing out their bandwidth, or a grandma using kilobytes a day. Which in my opinion is too much - way too much money for the use some people get out of it. I think it's a bad, unfair system.

I was thinking... is there a way to take this into our own hands? Is there a way to pirate this system? Why not share a subscription like we already do with Netflix?

But how do you share your connection with a random person who has nothing but a computer? I don't think that would be possible without the right equipment? Now I'm a complete layman at this, so my understanding is extremely basic, but my assumption is that one would need at least a router? And possibly someone to come over and connect the house's network cables to the outside?

Couldn't this be an entire business? The Pirate Provider, with technicians on hand all around the world, a custom (very small and inexpensive) router with custom software on there, easily configurable by the user to input a specific login to route data through the seller's router, or handle the routing on the seller's side. And a web service to handle the sharing, to generate logins and buy/sell them so that everyone can share their bandwidth effortlessly. Maybe even an ability to set caps. Could this work cross-country, even? If someone was unconcerned by their ping? Would this even be illegal?

But... I'm just speculating here, and I know I'm missing crucial pieces to really think realistically about such a system.

So do you guys think this could even be possible? Am I far off the mark?
