I have my own rig in my signature, along with power consumption. You're good.

Rex_G reacted to trevb0t in LTT: I Love Anthony
Hey guys!
If anyone else feels like I do, they want to see more videos with Anthony.
Something about his sage-like expressions while Linus watches tech fail to perform is HYSTERICAL to me.
And after it fails and Linus is like, "Wait... Did this company NOT include this thing in their thing!?!?!?" Anthony has this smile and nod like, "You're right, and I knew it all along and never told you, because I dug ridiculously deep into this tech way before I wrote this episode. I just wanted to see if you could figure out why it doesn't work."
Perfect.
Anthony, do more!

Rex_G reacted to bowrilla in Best thermal paste
Best standard paste is Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. The difference between all decent to high end pastes is usually not more than 1-1.5°K ... basically irrelevant and within the margin of error of any benchmark. Liquid Metal might give you another 1-2°K improvement but that's about it. Toms Hardware made a bige comparison in 2017: Thermal Paste Comparison

Rex_G reacted to LinusTech in (UPDATED - Claim has been removed) The Linux Gamer's response video to LTT got claimed by Fullscreen
This is an excellent explanation of how these things work.
I'd like to add that as long as the creator who gets the automated claim disputes it in a timely manner, there is no lost revenue during the period while it was "claimed".
I've been down at IBM Think for the last couple of days and this thread is the first I'm hearing of this issue.. Aaaand it's already resolved.
So, as far as I can tell, everything is working as it should...ish
We have noticed a significant uptick in copyright claims in the last couple of weeks, though, with some of them being in really really old content which suggests youtube has made some kind of change to ContentID and we've been trying to figure out how to address it.
We are generally pretty supportive of the creation of derivative works by our community and we want to make sure that they aren't being algorithmically claimed, but this change has caused other issues for us too. I woke up the other morning to a handful of claims made against Tech Quickie by LTT... Can't have that.
I'm sure this will be resolved, but it's probably going to take some time for youtube to get their crap in order, as usual.

Rex_G got a reaction from Cyberspirit in is it safe to use splitter for case fans in one single header?
Doesn't really matter. You won't hit safety current and even with two fans running at safety current, you are still well within spec for the MB connector. Go ahead and use a splitter.

Rex_G got a reaction from Dominik58057 in GPU stuck in PCIe-slot
Yep, that is my point. I did not learn everything in one day, you learn by doing it or failing to do it at some point. I have screwed up some things in past, when I look back they look stupid but stupid to "present" me (they would've looked stupid someone who had more knowledge). Again, I reiterate my point, you won't know things until you learn them. I don't care how small/stupid things look. If someone is trying to learn, I will do my best to help them out.
I am actually glad that there is a place like LTT forum where people can discuss about these things and get the help they need.

Great job! Glad you could get it out. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Rex_G reacted to mxk in Power Supply
1. Yes
2. Very common misconception, GPUs (especially from Nvidia!) don't use more power as cards come out. The goal is to be more efficient and perform the same as the previous generation of cards, if not better. So basically, the 2070 won't use a shitload more power because it's a newer, better card.
3. Yeah it'll probably be fine but I personally think getting 650w is good for an overclocked GPU and CPU.

Rex_G reacted to CharminUltraStrong in Which used GPU's should my friend buy?
Crossfire and SLI are not recommended and SLI is not possible with a 1060. The sad truth is, hardly any developers build their games with SLI/Crossfire support so it's best to always count on single card performance. He'd be better off with an Rx 580 or a GTX 1060, provided the pricing is right. Also, it's not a big deal if it's a mining card, there have been a million reviews discussing this debate.

Rex_G reacted to Jurrunio in Can I stack IC graphite thermal pads
usually that's a problem of low mounting pressure, not thermal interface quality.

Use the pinned thread:

They do work up to 144 Hz.

tech is still most certainly alive

Rex_G reacted to badreg in Not getting 300 Mbps I paid, could it be the modem?
40-50Mbps is normal with 802.11n. You need 802.11ac or newer and have a very strong signal to reach 200Mbps+ on WiFi.

Rex_G got a reaction from Velcade in Top mounted AIO or Front mounted?
Just saw Kyle's video on it and it makes sense. I guess I have some work to do today. Here is the video btw
-
Rex_G reacted to Velcade in Top mounted AIO or Front mounted?
Not true. Blowing all that hot air through your CPU rad can (and will) cause temps to be higher than that of a front mounted rad.
If the GPU is an open style card the placement of the CPU rad (top or front) is negligible on temps.

Rex_G reacted to filippalfi in 2nd CPU FAN
Best thing would be to get a splitter and run them both of CPU header.
-
Rex_G reacted to Crunchy Dragon in Will this be future proofed?
Thunderbolt 3 will bottleneck a GPU more than your CPU will.
I'd just build a new system personally, 7700T is a little outdated by now.

Rex_G reacted to Brooksie359 in Help me choose a better upgrade path from i5-3470 GTX1060@1080p
The 2600x will be significantly better than the i7 especially with the platform being newer and still having cpus being released for it. All of the games you are playing are very thread intensive so the extra 2 cores and 4 threads will help quite a bit.
