  1. I acquired a motherboard from a buddy who upgraded his computer (Got it for brother who is still sadly playing with a q6600). It was working fine before he dismantled it. When I got it, I noticed a bent pin. It's an ivy bridge and the coordinates are 6,4; pointing to a VSS pin connection. I straightened it out as best as I could, but I'm not getting a post. I'm not even sure if it's the pin that is giving me an issue. It's throwing an error 55 (doesn't detect ram error). I've tried every ram slot, cleared cmos, did the jumper ect... I'm not sure what I'm supposed do now. The motherboard model is an ASRock P67 extreme 4 gen 3
  2. I am very stumped regarding why I can configure a hardware raid and not have it show up in my console, and if I try to get it to show up, I f**k it up even worse. I am new to Debian and Linux as a whole. It has been a complete upwards curve for me as far as learning all the commands and downloading millions of packages. My Server is a SuperMicro 5017C-MTF The motherboard is a Super X9SCL-F with a Xeon E3-1220V2 and running with 16GB ram I have used the hardware raid controller that is built into the server, the 4 drives are set up in a raid 5. I'm having problems being able to mount them in Debian. Here is my version information if this is needed Distributor ID: Debian Description: Debian GNU/Linux 9.9 (stretch) Release: 9.9 Codename: stretch Below is the information I have regarding my hardware controllers and drives $ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/Ivy Bridge DRAM Controller (rev 09) 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 05) 00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 05) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev b5) 00:1c.4 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 5 (rev b5) 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 (rev 05) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev a5) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation C202 Chipset Family LPC Controller (rev 05) 00:1f.2 RAID bus controller: Intel Corporation SATA Controller [RAID mode] (rev 05) <----------------I'm not crazy! 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family SMBus Controller (rev 05) 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network Connection 03:03.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Electronics Systems Ltd. What that did was break my raid. I don't know what I should be doing. I have been reading everywhere and all it is doing is stumping me. If I need to, I can also upload dmesg. My other question is, my /ect/fstab directory is unconfigured and barren. I must be sounding like an idiot, can anyone explain to me what I need to be doing to make this work?
  3. Ok this is kind of crazy. I got a Super Micro 5017c-mtf with mobo p/n X9SCL-F from a thrift store for 10 dollars. They were just going to throw it out because no one knows what it was. It runs amazing, I am going to load Proxmox onto it. It has a e3-1220 v2 and 8gb of Unregistered ECC ram that is 2rx8. Is it compatible with other ram types like 1rx4 or is that something impossible with the mobo and processor generation? The reason being that I had a friend offer me 24 gb of ecc ram but it is the 1rx4 and it sucks if it isn't compatible. The ram part number I have in my computer M391B5273DHO-CH9. Here she is when I bought her. Whoever owned it previously had the heatsink on wrong and the ram not in dual channel. https://imgur.com/a/pfN94hh
  4. I am trying to get into the server community, I am currently going to college to try to either go into programming or IT. I have a Dell PE 1800 that is ancient and I don't think is worth even keeping around, it was given to me last year as the person who owned it had upgraded. I was wondering if you guys thought I should try using it or use my hobby setup with specs shown below that I take to lan parties as to not hurt my reg build. CPU: Intel Xeon X5460 OC to 4ghz GPU: Nvidia GTX 670 SSD: Mushkin MKNSSDCR120GB-MX 120GB RAM: Corsair DDR2 ram 4x2 GB MOBO: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P PSU: ANTEC 750W (LGA 775-771 mod) I eventually want to get a r720 but that isn't practical right now in my circumstances. I mainly want to be using this for Hosting servers, Plex, and data storage. My other question was is Windows 2008 even recommended for servers at this point or what OS would you recommend? People keep telling me that Unraid is a horrible way to go and that NAS isn't as reliable as regular SATA hdd are. What would you guys recommend to do to start myself out? I do have a raid card just sitting on the side right now, and I already know I need to get a sata 3 card with how old that MOBO is to allow the cruddy ssd to preform a little better.
  5. Hey everyone! Lets see if i can do my best to explain what is going on. My Audio system is really bugged right now and I have no idea if my on board audio is dead, if it is a driver problem, or a shorted cable. I have been trying everything. There is no sound coming from any of the on board options(Back 3.5mm jacks and the front 3.5mm headphone jack) My computer recently started detecting headphone input when there was no headphones connected (Constantly reconnecting and disconnecting, switching to the regular Digital Audio Device out), I checked to see if maybe the front jack was shorting out and it was fine, I even unplugged the SPDIF OUT from my motherboard, yet it detected that headphones were still repeatedly connecting and disconnecting 1000s of times a minute. My device manager would keep refreshing, the audio option in windows 10 settings keeps appearing and disappearing, the volume adjustment tab on the taskbar keeps changing too. I tried uninstalling drivers, I uninstalled the realtek audio manager(It was annoying as hell, it would not shut up) and tried reinstalling it, I went into my bios and tried the different audio settings in there, I even did a reset on my bios. I thought maybe reseating everything could possibly work and that didn't do it either. I wiped my computer through the windows 10 reset option as well. The only thing i haven't done yet is completely wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows 10. The only way I have been able to get audio is to go through my graphics card. Last night I had a weird moment where I was able to get audio for a fraction of a second before it started freaking out again. I have tried disabling the headphones in the Sound options and it still picks it up. This last time that I disabled it, the program crashed and i received this error "windows shell dll has stopped working" Should I just jump ship and buy a sound card and say bag it or is there a simple solution and I am a complete moron? I'm not sure if linking my build would help diagnose the problem but here it is: asus p8z77-v pro i7 3770k Geforce GTX 670 Ripjaw G-Skill ddr3 4x4Gb sticks 750W Antec power supply
  6. What one should I look for then? Am I able to overclock this guy? Foxconn 02010 He 00600 G Intel LGA 1366 Dual Socket Server Motherboard
  7. Hey everyone! I'm trying to build a cheap desktop to upgrade the trash I have right now. I want to use it for every day purposes and gaming. I was wondering what motherboard would be better? LGA 1366 single socket LGA 1366 dual socket What are the advantages and disadvantages of the mobos? I want to put 2 xenon x5660s into the dual socket but if I cannot overclock it I think the single socket board would be better. I am afraid that the dual socket will cause a bottle neck with speed and graphics. What board would best suit my needs?
