Vroooom got a reaction from mrchow19910319 in i5-8600k vs i7-8700
This is sort of like a few years ago when everyone was buying i5s over i7s, saying that the extra threads didn't matter. They didn't matter then, but they do now. The 8700 is a better processor than the 8600K. That's why it normally sells for more. The 8700 will give you 4.6 GHz all core on the right motherboard. 5.0 GHz is less than 10% faster. Less than 10% clock speed for half the threads? Sounds like a bad deal.

Edit: overclocking is fun, though, and the 8600K will be just as good or better sometimes for the next few years

Set your 1440p monitor to 1080p to get an idea of what interpolation looks like. Set your 1440p monitor to 720p to get an idea of what 1080p on a 4K display would be like.

You can't mine ethereum on a 3GB GPU anymore, but you could mine other things. The card will realistically work fine at 1440p except for a handful of games. At the magic voodoo price you got it for, yeah, get that. 1060 + more stuff >> Titan Xp Hybrid OC SLI + less stuff

Vroooom got a reaction from Mad_gamer in Is evga GTX 980 Ti HC still viable?
A 980 Ti performs like a 1070, and a 6700k performs like an i5 8400. So those previous-generation high-end parts are equivalent to current-generation upper-midrange parts. It will play games fine, but that system might be a little overpriced, I don't know Canadian prices

Vroooom got a reaction from Mat_95 in I7 4930k scoring lower than a 3930K in cinebench,
It looks like the 4930k actually has lower all core turbo than the 3930k. And ivy bridge and Sandy bridge are basically the same thing, so the difference in clock speed explains it

Vroooom got a reaction from minibois in Quad or Dual channel RAM?
The motherboard supports dual channel, but has 4 dimm slots. It doesn't support quad channel. Two dimm slots go to one memory channel, and the other two go to the other memory channel.

Vroooom got a reaction from paddy-stone in Under performing RAM
That site gives you two different percentage figures of different types. One compares the performance against all components of that type, where "100%" is defined from the average performance of one component that they decided to use as the reference. When you run the test, you also get a percentile that compares your particular component against all other benchmark runs with that particular component.

Example: CPU A gets an average score of 100%. CPU B gets an average score of 70%. You run a benchmark with CPU B, and get 80%. Your percentile score will be above 50%. So your CPU is performing better than expected for that model of CPU, but that model of CPU is just plain slower than CPU A, so the fact it got less than 100% is expected.

Looking at the link to your RAM, it's scoring better than average for runs of that kit of RAM.

Edit: also, that 60.7 score is similar to the 62.3 I got with my DDR3 1600 CL9, so I think you're good

Whether people prefer a la carte or all inclusive doesn't depend on economics, it depends on feelings. Maybe if there was a base price that came with a certain number of channels that you choose yourself, and then additional channels were a la carte, then both sides would be happy

Vroooom got a reaction from infinatis12 in Vega 56 clock speed issue
Out of the box, Vega 56 power throttles. Reset to default in wattman, then just increase power target and maybe fan speed, leaving core clock and voltage alone. Also OC memory, but leave memory voltage alone, too. If you want to OC the core to squeeze out a tiny bit more performance, watch gamersnexus video where they undervolt+overclocked their Vega 56

Vroooom got a reaction from done12many2 in Could Ryzen's Neural Net Affect Game Performance?
Ryzen's "Neural Net" is just marketing fluff for the way they're doing branch prediction. It's not something where you'd see performance increase over time, it's more at the level of the instructions going through the CPU. All modern CPUs do branch prediction, and AMD's marketing calls their technique a neural net. I don't know what's going on with your computer, that sounds kind of weird
