  1. Thank you for all of your replies. Bad classification won't do any harm for now, I'll just do it for fun and to learn a new skill. A agree that processing data so that classification by neural nets can be applied as well as interpreting it later on are probably difficult. Thats why I am looking for an easy project to start with, where I can focus on machine learning itself, and not so much on the preparation and interpretation. Various youtube videos, reading on it. That's been some time ago, so don't rembermber video titles... Apart from that, I used the free e-learning offered by my employer. Thank you very much for that recommendation, the book looks like a solid knowledge-basis to build on. I'll start reading Ok, I will look into that channel, and see wether that's the right kind of task/project for me. If any of you has further recommendations for websites/youtubers/sample projects that you had good experience with, please share them. Thanks a lot, xilef
  2. Hi, I want to get started on supervised machine learning using neural networks. I know a fair bit about how neural networks work. I also have some coding experience (mainly C++, C#, python). Building my own basic neural network in C++ would be tedious, but would really make me understand everything in depth. The other option I consider is getting started using the tensorflow library for python. This would probably be more fun because the first good be results can be reached way more quickly. Which option is better? My second problem is that I am looking for an interesting, yet not to hard, little project to start with. Any suggestions? regards, Xilef
  3. Hey libman, for upgrading to ryzen you'll need a new motherboard and new ddr4 ram (the old one is ddr3 which is not supported by ryzen). Since the System doesn't have an ssd yet i'd buy one for the os to run on. Here is my suggestion: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Hgr4r7 On the website you linked, I can't find any information on the psu that is in use in your friends pre built system. I guess it'll be alright tho.
  4. Asus Z170 Pro gaming (atx) or Z170i Pro gaming (itx) I am using the itx version for more than a year now, also with 6700k an I am very happy with it. I do not overclock though.
  5. go into the bios while booting. You can usually find the safe mode in there
  6. @Donut417@MadsMøller Thanks for your advice. Here's what I'm gonna do: I'll set up an old laptop as temporary HTPC with Kodi. I also have a wireless gamepad I don't use anymore, so I can use that as Remote. That way I can at no cost find out wether or not my parents get along. If so, I will chuck out all the old stuff and build them a proper HTPC later on. In that case I might comeback asking for advice about hardware, but for now I'm good. Cheers!
  7. Thanks for the idea of using Kodi. I never heard of that before, but I'll certainly look into that. Can you recommend a user friendly remote control for a HTPC?
  8. I'd suggest this one: http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-envy-x360---15-bp051nr It offers great value, 15 inch screen and is still very portable.
  9. One of the wires looks like you can see the core. If I were you I'd seperate the three cables at the area of the damage and wrap every single one in electric tape. Then you'll be fine.
  10. Yeah that is probably true. But is has some other advantages... The thing is, the setup as it is now with all the the different old devices requires me to look after it quite a lot, so I want to simplify the whole setup and not just add the next device.
  11. Hey guys, I'm going to upgrade my family's living room setup. Right now they have a rather old TV (1080p) that works just fine and a bunch of peripherals: a dvd-player, a sat-receiver, a fairly old cd-player, and an audio amplifier. Since they discovered streaming via amazon prime, they're interested in bringing it to the TV in the living room as well. While I could just tell them to get a fireTV stick or chromecast or something the like, I would rather like to seize the opportunity to update the whole setup since most of the peripherals are completely outdated (some older than 10 years). I have basically come up with three options: 1. Replace everything by a smart TV - high cost - less privacy due to data hungry smart tv - most likely no cd/dvd option (or can you attack an external dvd drive to a smart TV) - proprietary Hardware and software, not customizeble + one device -> very simple setup + very easy to use + SAT TV + better viewing experience (though my parents don't care much about image quality and all that) 2. Keep the TV and replace the peripherals by a Set top box - no cd/dvd option - proprietary Hardware (and maybe software), not customizeable - TV only via Internet livestream, no SAT TV + cheapest option by far + simple setup + very easy to use 3. Keep the TV and replace the peripherals by HTPC running windows - higher cost than option 2, dependig on configuration - not as easy to use as 1 + 2 (maybe someone has an idea of how to properly control a htpc without having a wireless keyboard and mouse on the table? ) - less stable (due to windows os compared to proprietary solutions above) + highly customizeable + future upgradeability + very versatile + CD/DVD support + SAT-TV via expansion card + I get to build another PC For all three options I will most likely keep the old audio solution and maybe replace it later with a sound bar or something the like. My problem is that on the one hand I want a versatile and futureproof solution and on the other and it has to be reliable, easy to use for my parents and should not require me to do a lot of "maintenance". I don't mind spending some time setting it up, but once that's done I'd like it to be easy to operate for my parents so I don't have to look after it much. I have no experience in home theater stuff, so I am looking forward to your thoughts and ideas, so I can figure out what would be the best option. Thank you! xilef
