Help troubleshooting overheating on i9-7920x
Sciverse replied to Sciverse's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Sooo... I figured out what I did wrong... so when I was getting the block ready I took off the little plastic film that covers the block to just look at it to make sure it looked ok and I guess I put it back on and forgot about it so now that it’s off and i applied liquid metal all temps except for the package are below ambient. My only concern it that when it’s under load in cenebench all the cores except for core 11 stay at about 75 c at 4.7 but core 11 gets to like 99c. Is that normal to have one core super hot like that or did I do something wrong and if I did mess something up is it really an issue I need to fix because im never going to actually be maxing out all cores at 4.7 -
Help troubleshooting overheating on i9-7920x

I mean to make it so the lm doesn’t short anything if it touched the pan. Steve from gn used nail polish and Linus used an acrylic spray. I’m going to check the mono block to make sure it’s actuallu making contact because I know water is circulating -

I’m definitely going to check that. I thought it was making good contact but with those temps it must not be. I was planning to delid anyway but I just wanted to see how temps were before I did. I’m planning to use thermal grizzle liquid metal but could you recommend what to use to insulate the pcb -
Help troubleshooting overheating on i9-7920x

I think it’s a d5 pump. It’s whatever pump comes in the ek reservior punk combo -
Hey guys so I recently put together a new build with an i9-7920x and a 1080ti. I have a mono block on the cpu and 2 ek 360 rads(pe at the top and xe at the front)to cool the gpu and cpu. I’ve been trying to overclock my cpu to 4.5ish at 1.22 volts and I’ve seen people do it with custom loops but when I try I get temps in the high 70s and 80s with several cores even reaching the 90s and that’s not even under load. I have my graphics card running into a 360 ek pe rad that then goes into my cpu so I don’t think the water being warm is the issue. My gpu is running at about 29c under load which is only a little over ambient. I’m not sure if I need to only use one rad because the pump isn’t strong enough to move water quickly enough between both(I’m using an ek all in one pump) or if I need to check the mono block again or if I need to delid. Any imput would be greatly appreciated

Hey guys, Im planning to delid and apply liquid metal to my i9-7920x and ive watched a bunch of videos and read a bunch of articles but im not quite sure what to use to protect the capacitors and resistors on the pcb around the cpu die from shorting if liquid metal seeps off the die. I know Linus used an acrylic conformal coating and Steve used nail polish but im not sure which one of those is best or if there are better options out there

Need help picking a cpu for a new build for school

Thank you so much for your help. I think ill go with the laptop they want but i still dont what cpu for my new build and if i should get a quadro for that build -

im actually going to full sail which is in Florida. Sadly the laptop is mandatory unless you get another laptop that is comparable. I was planning on doing everything on a flash drive because i dont want to do all the work on the laptop. also it looks like the cpu is an HQ. Really now i guess my only worry is about the grapics because if the laptop they want us to have has a p5000 quadro I should probably have one in my desktop but if my 1080ti will work just as well maybe i dont -

thank you for the great response. like seriously that was super informative. If i may ask what school did you got to? We have to buy an hp laptop that has a p5000 and an i7 quad core it should be hyper threaded but it didnt say in the description. If im being 100% honest im not going to have to pay for the upgrade so thats why im asking about the cpu and ive seen that more cores can help. the other thing I was thinking about was the quadro. They have us get the laptop because thats where they want us to do the majority of our work but i dont really like the idea of going home and having to work on the laptop. I have a 1080ti and an i5-8600k at 5 ghz right now but people say that gaming cards arent the best for workstation stuff because the drivers arent optimized and arent as stable. -
Im getting ready to go to school for game design and I want to have a new pc before I start. Im trying to decide what cpu I should go with. I've looked at the threadripper 1950x, threadripper 1920x, i9 7900x, i9 79200x, rysen 7 2700x, and i7-8700k. Budget isnt really an issue because im already going to have a quadro p5000. I know higher cores can help but from what ive seen the threadripper cpus kind of fall behind. im leaning more towards the Intel side but I dont know if its worth it to get an i9. Oy maybe I should just get one of the x299 i7s. I know they are kind of stupid but they will give me the extra cores and higher clocks. im not 100% sure what software im going to be using because even my admissions director didnt know but i want to be prepared for anything.

so you have the quadro in the same system? Im wanting to do the same thing so how did you set it up?

EK Phoenix line or custom loop
Sciverse replied to Sciverse's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
Thats what I was thinking as well I just wanted to see what other people might think -
I want to water cool my pc but im not sure if I should go with the Phoenix line or save and build a completely custom loop. I have enough to pay for the whole phoenix line but a custom loop is about 300 more than I can spend rn. I know ek has the fluid gaming line but I don't have a reference graphics card so I cant use the water block the fluid gamin line uses.
