Found an adapter that works on Digikey and it actually works now!

There's no standard for pinout on the PSU side. And the PSU is over 13 years old. It's not worth to revive this dinosaur because it's not reliable anymore.

    Hello all,

I recently purchased a used ASUS MB168B portable USB monitor. I was considering using it as a permanent monitor for my system, but I didn't want to use up a USB port for it. (I'm aware this defeats the purpose of a portable monitor, just work with me here please.)

Now, this monitor is powered by a type B micro USB 3.0 to type A USB 3.0 port. (I don't think it's called 3.0 anymore, but you know, the weird micro usb with extra bit Samsung used for a while to standard USB 3.0 with the blue connector.)

Is there an adapter that goes from micro B 3.0 to something like HDMI (most likely with USB for power)? I found 1 cable that seems like it was made for an old Samsung Note phone to plug into a TV, but I didn't think that would work since the micro B was plugged into the source not the output.

The only editing I do is splicing clips together and maybe adding a simple text overlay. Nothing fancy.

Alright, well, I guess I'll focus on finding a nice RX580, unless anyone has any suggestions about Nvidia cards.

Well... To clarify, I don't think either is the right buy.
A 580 is where you wanna be, with a 570 on backup if you can't front the used market pricing.

For gaming the GPU first would be of more benefit. A 1200 isn't much of a bottleneck to the RX 580. It will bottleneck a little, but the better performance gain in gaming will come from the GPU upgrade.

Likewise if it's more so the editing you do, CPU first.

Really the 1600 is a nice upgrade, (More cores, multi threaded) but unless you are doing CPU heavy stuff, the 1200 will support a newer GPU for 1080p gaming just fine.

The 560 is only a little upgrade from the 550. A used RX 580 is ~$90-100 USD on Ebay. This will be a great cost to performance upgrade. That's where I would be aiming.

First Act is the cheapest of the cheap. Add into the fact that it's a surface-mounted PCB solution, and that leaves you with very little actual modification room to get it to sound better, unless you have a very powerful knowledge of both circuits and guitar amp design. As well even a speaker modification may be out of the question as no one quite knows what impediance or power rating the amp can handle. I would guess it's 8', 8ohm, 15 watt, but we don't know.

One thing to keep in mind, especially with guitar amps, is that if the output stage doesn't get the correct impedance on the speaker you'll kill the amp outright. If this was a tube amp, like an SLO-100, an older pre 2006 Mesa (when their internals took a massive design change), or a Marshall, I could have been of actual help... but First Act is very unwilling to release their 'design' because in most likelihood it's a stolen design.

Thank you. Means a lot. In case you were wondering, I'm currently building with Outemu Red switches that I got off Massdrop (120 switches for $30). They all seem pretty consistent so far as far as actuation force goes. The lowest quality item is my keycaps, which I got off that app Wish for like $15 (USD) for a full set.

First of all, thank you to both Cinnabar Sonar and 8uhbbhu8 for their responses. Secondly, it isn't a tech quickie and it isn't a review. I guess it's build video. Specifically a homemade mechanical keyboard. Lots of easy talking points, such as plate mounted vs pcb mounted switches, cherry mx vs cherry clones vs other types of switches, layout (ANSI, 60%, custom, etc.), why you would want to build one instead of buying, control boards (pcb, Teensy, Ardunio, etc.), and actually building one themselves. Easy chance for a Massdrop sponsor spot as well, since they often have Cherry MX clone switches, pre-made keyboards, or custom pcb kits as drops or requested drops as well.

I may have been thinking about this for a while.

(And yes, I'm halfway through the project myself, in case you couldn't guess.)
