  1. Found an adapter that works on Digikey and it actually works now!
  2. Hello everyone, I have a 2080 Ti that uses a reference PCB but an unlabeled cooler (Google says probably an Alienware/Dell cooler). I want to switch to a Founders Edition Cooler I was able to snag but unfortunately, the card lacks the 14 pin connector on the PCB. Does anyone know if I can even find this connector anywhere? The all black cooler is cool, but I love the look of the founders edition.
  3. Ended up reaching out to Scythe directly for information (because why not). They had a very well written response that basically said that it's old, you can probably get cables that work on a third party website, and use caution when doing so (aka it's on you if you do so).
  4. Look, it was late, I was drunk, I was young and dumb
  5. Yeah, that's a valid argument. I definitely have some retro equipment that I might use for a retro PC, but I think I'll use something more complete maybe.
  6. Hello everyone. I bought a used scythe power supply and unfortunately it didn't come with any cables. I just want to see if it works and if so, possibly use it in my build (or a media PC since I've read conflicting information about their quality). Does anyone know if they use a specific standard for their modular cables? Figured I would ask to hopefully save time on any and all multimeter testing I'm going to do.
  7. So what you're saying is that I could get the Apple adapter, a USB-C female to female adapter, and a MDP to MDP cable and MAYBE get it to work. I think that's even more effort than I want to attempt for what is effectively very little reward, but thanks for the extra complete information.
  8. Welp, that's kind of what I saw when searching online. I guess I'll need to look into a PCIe card or asking IT at work to let me run the program (probably option 1). Thanks for the extra confirmation.
  9. Hello everyone, it's been a while. I bought a Thunderbolt dock to use for my work from home setup. Well, I have a connection issue that will HOPEFULLY be solved by updating the firmware. My wife has a MacBook with thunderbolt, but it's thunderbolt 2 (mini displayport) and my dock is thunderbolt 3/4 (USB-C). Does anyone know of a Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3/4 adapter? It's not like I need it as a permanent solution, just a temporary fix on my docking station. I did do one last bit of Googling and I don't think one exists so I'm SOL, but I figured y'all might know something.
  10. Male to male insert to make it sit right on top and have an easy way to bleed out bubbles. Good call though.
  11. I am planning a very basic looking wall mounted PC and am planning on water cooling. I am planning out my loop and placement right now and I noticed that my water block of the GPU would make it vertical, as shown below. I've seen photos of air cooled GPUs in this position, but not water cooled graphics cards. Do you think it will cause any issues? Additional information: -Inlet is currently on top -I'm like 90% certain I will replace that pump before I even start the loop -My use case is 1080p gaming at and above 60 Hz and YouTube (with occasional editing and 3D modeling)
  12. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 that is pretty full with its original storage. While I am starting to move some of the photo folders to my SD card (which by itself is more difficult than expected), I can't find a way to empty all of my app caches at once. This used to be a simple few clicks, but I can't find anything. Is this possible? I believe I have the most up to date software/firmware for my device. Thanks! I'm not against using a rebooting and holding buttons down method, but it's not my first choice.
  13. For reference, it was preinstalled on one side like this. There is no long tube like fonzz1e has shown on the "input" side.
  14. I'm planning custom water cooling for a case I'm making and the reservoir I bought has a built in "defoamer" or flow buffer (original link vs similar looking photo below). It looks built in so I don't think I can remove mine. Should it be used on the reservoir inlet, reservoir outlet, or just avoid it? I could probably get away with not using it.
  15. Hello everyone. For Christmas, I upgraded my fiancée's mom's computer by just completely replacing it with a full size Dell Optiplex 980. (Considering it was using an IDE drive and DDR RAM [1 GB no less], I think it was a good call.) I tried installing Windows 10 and as expected, it didn't quite work; I got my old Windows CD to work, but not my USB installer (which is tested working). After looking online, I can tell that it's due to the graphics being too far below the minimum Windows 10 requirements. What would be a good card to add to the machine? CPU: Core i3-550 (73 W power draw) PSU: 305W Form Factor: Full size Computer use case: Looking at photos, light web browsing, email, Windows Office (Word, Powerpoint, etc) Here is the original eBay listing for the machine: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-OptiPlex-980-MT-Mini-Tower-Intel-Core-i3-550-3-20-GHz-4-GB-RAM-NO-HDD-NO-OS/184513081155?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
  16. So I got a Facebook add for the following Amazing listing of 50 16GB flash drives: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K583PJ8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabt1_dlC_AZ2RFb1MV0M1W (Not an affiliate link since it was from a Facebook ad and I think this is a limit time deal.) I suddenly remembered the micro SD card "SSD" video and was thinking that, given the right adapters, this could be a stupid mass storage system that exists. It would be 800 GB, which isn't terrible, though the speed would leave something to be desired. I guess the scenario would be you are a company recruiter and your swag was flash drives but then you had extra? Idk, it's stupud but it would be interesting to see.
  17. I respect both of your opinions. Thank you.
  18. Hello all, I recently purchased a used ASUS MB168B portable USB monitor. I was considering using it as a permanent monitor for my system, but I didn't want to use up a USB port for it. (I'm aware this defeats the purpose of a portable monitor, just work with me here please.) Now, this monitor is powered by a type B micro USB 3.0 to type A USB 3.0 port. (I don't think it's called 3.0 anymore, but you know, the weird micro usb with extra bit Samsung used for a while to standard USB 3.0 with the blue connector.) Is there an adapter that goes from micro B 3.0 to something like HDMI (most likely with USB for power)? I found 1 cable that seems like it was made for an old Samsung Note phone to plug into a TV, but I didn't think that would work since the micro B was plugged into the source not the output.
  19. Long story short, JohnAudio Tech used the same kit I will be using a single supply operating as a split voltage. I found a transformer that will provide +/-18-20 V after a split, so I should be good. Thanks for y'alls help. His video is at this link should you want it:
  20. Hello all, I am building a little audio amplifier. Not sure if I'm going to use it as a guitar amplifier or just a standard audio amplifier but I'll figure that out later. I've seen the circuit online many many places and I have the one from the page I bought the kit from. I've watched several videos including the JohnAudio Tech one. The one thing I still have confusion on is the power supply. My main question is about whether it's AC or DC powered. I know it's got the split power thing with the V+, V-, and ground. I have an AC to AC power transformer now with ground (12V output, I am aware that is underpowered). Does the chip run on AC or DC input? EDIT: Okay, I'm like 80% certain that it's DC powered. Guess I'm buying/building a rectifier.
  21. Surprisingly, not easy to find. That said, I think I found some heads that will work. I'll need to solder a bit, but shouldn't be a problem.
  22. Laptop style Molex! Thank you, I'll look into that. Now I just have to figure out which of the 2 pins on the board (not pictured) are the speaker and I'll be all set.
  23. One of these days I'll actually help someone on the forum, but today is not that day! Anyway, long story short, I am building a small form factor PC using an old Lenovo Thinkcentre m72e Tiny motherboard. I'll trying to figure out a cool solution but the 4 pin fan header is very small. What should I do, other than buying a stock fan? (Note, I could buy a broken one and solder connections to it, but I'm attempting to avoid that.)
  24. Yeah, I pretty much only got this board because it had a deal with the 3 1200 and had enough for what I needed at the time. Thanks everyone for the advice.
  25. The only editing I do is splicing clips together and maybe adding a simple text overlay. Nothing fancy. Alright, well, I guess I'll focus on finding a nice RX580, unless anyone has any suggestions about Nvidia cards.
