Rakanoth reacted to Eigenvektor in How To Resize An Image In GIMP Without Stretching? **UPDATED**
Without stretching simply means you need so scale both width and height by the same factor. So if you double the image's width you also have to double its height.

Gimp should do that by default, when you use the Image > Scale Image function, just make sure the "Chain" between Width and Height is locked, so changing one dimension changes the other by the same factor. In other words you have to explicitly break the chain for Gimp to resize an image without preserving its aspect ratio.

Software is either native, or runs in a emulator. Most software will work fine with the emulator.

    Nope to both.

Definitions are "unique" to each dictionaries and thus protected by copyright.
Most/All of them even include fake ones to catch people who would steal their content.

You would need to rewrite each definitions a bit. Else it's copyright infringement.

Rakanoth reacted to akio123008 in What kind of copyright issues can arise for a dictionary app/software?
I think the problem with that would be that the definitions of other words would still be taken from these websites so they could still get you for using those definitions without permission.

In other words, I suspect adding a fake word isn't as similar to adding a fake street to a map, it's more like adding a fake map to a book that contains a collection of other people's maps.

I don't have much to add to the discussion here, as yes you should definitely check with the dictionaries you'll want to retrieve information from.
Maybe they have a way to license definitions, or maybe it's even free if it's for non-profit/educational use.

What I do wonder about is if there are ways for these dictionaries to see you copied them.
Some time ago I saw a video by Jay Foreman and Mark Cooper Jones in their 'Map men' series which covered so called "trap streets" in maps. These were streets on a map that didn't exist, that were added to the maps intentionally. The idea is that the user of the map wouldn't be inconvenienced by these streets (as they often are just small streets added in insignificant places), but they were a way for mapmakers to see if other maps had copied them, because these trap streets would not be seen in real life; they would only be seen and added by someone copying that map.

A dictionary could have such "traps" too, perhaps in the form of a fake word added, or something misspelled.
Although on the other hand I doubt they'd have something like a misspelling or fake word, as that would hurt the integrity of the dictionary.

    Video link by the way:

Depends on where your pulling it from, however chances are they will be able to go after you for something if your not licensing it in some form.
If its open-source non commercial software, chances are you can probably work out a a deal to freely use there data, Dictionary.com hints at a possibility in there terms. You may have to come to a agreement on how your project will be licensed as well.
Dictionary.com for example include this in there Terms of service.

My advise is to send out a request to sites you plan to pull data from and ask for their written consent to use their work.

Rakanoth reacted to mariushm in DDR3 1600 RAM Timings
    CPU-Z shows you the stick has a preset for 1333 Mhz (JEDEC #4)  and a preset for 1864 Mhz (932 x 2, XMP-1864)

Since 1600 Mhz is between - higher than 1333 and lower than 1864 - and you know for sure the stick will support those timings at 1864 Mhz, it will definitely support those timings at 1600 Mhz.
So you can use the XMP-1864 timings at 1600 Mhz.

The stick may be good enough to actually support the better timings set from1333 Mhz, or may support almost all those timings, with one or two loosened - for example 9-10-10-24-32 may work, or it may not.

I'd suggest just using those relaxed timings from xmp-1864 as those will work for sure.

A software like AIDA64 will tell you ALL the parameters (there's a few more you can then manually set in bios)
But you should be able to just pick the XMP-1864 profile, and then go and adjust the frequency down to 1600 Mhz.

So I have this habit of crossing my legs when I game. It doesn't matter if I'm on the couch or a computer chair. Doing so not only feels natural but allows me to rest my arms on my legs for added stability. It makes a big difference when using a controller. I can tell that I play better with the stability. With m/k it is easier to get away with resting my wrist and/or arms on the desk but I still feel better cross legged.

The bad thing is that I end up very sore and have to straighten my legs every 40 minutes or so because they start to hurt. Idk. I guess I can't win now matter how I sit.

I also played PayDay 2 for days straight when I had a nice stretch off from working. I did it using a controller on the One X. It got to the point my hands and wrists hurt so bad, I had to stop playing. I thought the pain would go away but it didn't. Typing and gaming was very uncomfortable. I did reduce my game play to games that didn't require such intense finger movements but I still was uncomfortable. I ended up going to a doctor and they said I probably had carpal tunnel syndrome. They told me to wear one of those wrist brace things. The problem has mostly gone away after months of not pushing my hands and fingers to work hard while gaming. I still get the feeling sometimes and occasionally have to take something OTC for the pain. Not often though.

I'm 34 btw. I hate to see what might happen when I hit 50. I'm not giving up gaming though. I'll get surgery and resort to other means of easing the pain if I have to before I give up gaming.

I actually had to double take to make sure this was humor. It’s getting so ridiculous I wouldn’t doubt it if it were true lol

This was just too funny. Thriller? Heh, more like: Grandma Killer. Unlike 99.6% of people with covid, Michael Jackson failed to Beat It. The covid models were Bad. In lockdown, we’re all stuck here with The Man in The Mirror. Say, say, say what you want, but I refuse to live in fear.

One thing I've noticed is that the media have been reporting the deaths of somewhat obscure people more than usual. It's like "So and so died" but either the cause is not disclosed or is reported as "natural causes". The net effect is more obituaries= more panic.

Total nonsense. The second wave of the 1918 Pandemic is literally called "The Deadly Second Wave" because it killed almost everyone who caught in within 3 days of them showing symptoms. Theres no real number for deaths in the first wave but its estimated the second wave killed 20 to 50 million and there was even a third wave but it was very mild in comparison. Guess what happened? The first wave passed, everyone went back to normal and there was a 3 month gap before it returned and killed almost everyone it infected. This also perfectly aligned with the time when the world was celebrating the end of WW1 and while it cannot be proven its widely believed that the people gathering in large number to celebrate, while not the direct cause, exacerbated the spread of the second wave and was the reason why so many died from it.

Before this we have no real historical data to look at because accurate records were simply not kept, we have estimates of mortality but nothing beyond that.

There's NOTHING to suggest that maintaining lockdown increases the chance of a second wave, heck even the source you posted doesn't say that. In fact they say exactly the opposite

No it doesn't. You're either being deliberately stupid or you've completely missed the point of the text you quoted, notice this word...
...which does not mean there's any extra chance a second wave can happen, there's literally nothing we can do to stop it happening if it does (we chose lockdown, its too late to reverse that now). What they meant was there's a chance of more people being infected during a second wave which comes down to herd immunity and it's nothing we don't already know. Its pretty obvious if you lock everyone away and hardly anybody gets it then there's more potential for these people to catch it at a later date but I'm 99% sure you already know all of this anyway.

I mean talk about taking a quote out of context, here's the conclusion of that study, its actually a great exoneration of the actions chose by the world during this crisis.
Classic case of skewing the context to fit your own narrative and selective quoting again to fit your narrative because you have nothing else. All you can do is warp & twist things to make them look like they agree with you when in reality you just linked to an article that literally says what we're doing is the right way to prevent death. Like I said, you're either being deliberately idiotic or you're ignorant of the situation, maybe both.

If experts say it's time we reopen, then we should, you saying that the people in favors of lockdowns think it should be perpetual and that they don't care about the economy or the social effects is getting tiring and is, as I just mentioned, disingenuous. So please, start discussing within the stated rules, or you'll be forced to voice your opinion elsewhere.

So, recently I noticed that my GPU is running at x8 3.0. Which is odd because previously it had been running at x16 3.0 but now it currently is not.
    I've tried
Reseating GPU Updating Windows Checking CPU for bent pins Trying different GPU slots Updating BIOS(this one was a bit weird though, keep reading) Trying a different GPU Cleaning the slot Okay, regarding the BIOS i noticed something rather odd, when I updated the bios, it said that the slot was running at x16 in the bios configuration, when I went into windows it said the same, GPU running at x16(But it was running at 1.1, no matter what load I had put on it). But when I had restarted the pc, all the sudden it is running at x8 3.0 once again. Is there any logical reason behind this? I almost think that it's an ill manufactured bios.

If this turns out to be true, it's a pretty terrible idea, IMO. Wireless charging is still significantly slower, and being completely unable to use your phone while it's charging seems more regressive than innovative. If anything, the fact that this design would be completely obtuse makes the rumour significantly more credible, given Apple's track record in the last few years.
