    Unless the actual source code for the whole game was leaked (and we wouldn't have heard the end of it if it was), there is no way they used the game's source code, and there is no way they could have used it. I don't need the source code for Mario Kart Wii to give myself 2000cc, after all.

    It's not that games are too cheap, it's that the budget for AAA titles are way too fucking high, and they have to recuperate by charging ridiculous prices for them and adding microtransactions up the ass.
