  1. When NN goes - it means that ISPs will also be able to abuse their monopolies just like how other software tech companies do every day. It won't be the end of the world, it will just be another sh_t strawberry on top of an already overflowing sh_t sundae.
  2. Apples never fall far from the tree.
  3. It would be good to check with other people in Poland to see what they use. For instance, coinbase will let people in my country buy bitcoins, but not sell. People here could recommend something that works for them, but might not work for you.
  4. With Seti@Home sometimes the server that hands out the work assignments goes down, so your machine will be sitting around for hours (or days) waiting for new tasks once your queue empties. Could this be a similar issue with F@H?
  5. I have built a Seti@Home box around a TR and 2x MSI Vega 64 LCs. Have another 2x of them ready to slot in once I get a second power supply. Each one chews 265-266watts at full utilisation (stock). They can't output 300+ watts heat if they don't draw 300+ watts of power. If you need to exaggerate to prove your point, then it detracts from your point. I run the 2 GPUs at full load, and the 1950X at 75% load, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and two pedestal fans are all that is required to remove the heat from the room. This is in Australia, in a room without air con. Maybe you just need to take a spoonful of cement and harden up a bit?
  6. Couple more horsepower for the Seti@Home box.
  7. I don't seriously think about PCMR stuff, but it can be good for a laugh every now and again. Q) Why did the console peasant cross the road? A) To render the building on the other side. (shamelessly stolen)
  8. Unfortunately content moderation is a job that attracts people who have an axe to grind. Once hired, they tend to focus only on their own ideological battles and not the larger job at hand (like moderating children's content). Youtube has been extremely busy censoring and demonetising lately, so they can't claim to lack the capacity either. Now traditional media gets to have a field day at their expense. And holy hell are they going to beat it up.
  9. It is a common sentiment. Many people would be quite happy if vast swathes of the internet were made inaccessible. It would only be a travesty if anything they use became inaccessible. This is why it is so easy to take away freedoms and rights these days, because so many cheer when other other people lose theirs. Our society has been divided and conquered.
  10. Media companies censor information to suit their own interests. Tech companies (Google, facebook etc) censor information to suit their own interests. Why not let ISPs censor information to suit their own interests? It just seems odd to single one layer of the infrastructure and demand that it be free and unbiased, whilst that standard doesn't exist at any other level in our information ecology. (Devils advocate)

  12. "Brain development, age 7 to 22: The prefrontal cortex is the last to mature and it involves the control of impulses and decision-making. Therefore, teenagers need to learn to control reckless, irrational and irritable behavior." That is a roundabout way of saying listen to your parents and stop being a ****.
  13. Whenever a tragedy occurs, all the likely suspects line up to use it to further their own agendas. In this case, the US alphabet agencies and their addiction to backdoors. As for the "monsters don't deserve privacy" crowd, that isn't the point. Backdoors created for agencies will end up in the wild, just like the NSA's hacking toolkit is out there now. All for any script-kiddy to use.
  14. Water cooling is good with 24/7 loads like Boinc. Keeping the cards cooler extends their life expectancy.
  15. Not where I shop - though I didn't need to wait for the last Vega 64 LCs I got, umart already had them in stock. They were also down AUD100, but that is just coming down to MSRP and not clearance pricing.
  16. A good reason never to leave your body to science when you die.
  17. Try it and see. People have good reason to say don't bother on a 2GB card (because of blockchain size) but you won't be losing anything to find out for yourself.
  18. Taking the night off Boinc and setup Nicehash to run to see how it goes. (system in sig). It is all benchmarked, but seems to be jumping between coins fairly frequently. The rate per day in USD seems to sit at between 5.00 and 7.30 depending on the coin at the time. Just using the 2x Vega 64 LC's and not the CPU because from experience in Boinc if you saturate the CPU then you starve the GPUs. The GPUs are sitting at 65-66 deg C just like under Boinc load also. System is not overclocked except a modest raise of system RAM frequency to 2800Mhz. Crossfire is off. I have another 2x MSI Vega 64 Wave LC on order with a second 1300 watt PSU, so I might give it another nights work under nicehash when they are installed, but I don't want to let my Seti@Home RAC degrade too far. This system should hit Seti world top 10 once all 4 GPUs are up and running.
  19. If you are using a gaming machine to mine with during the off-time, then you use what you have which is likely to be windows and what cards you have. You seem to think that being a "noob" is an insult, but everyone is a noob in everything at one point. Many will try crypto and decide it is not for them, so it makes no sense for them to buy dedicated hardware and set up different operating system until they decide to get serious. And if/when they get serious, they will find for themselves good sources of information that don't suffer from the low social bandwidth you appear to be hampered by.
  20. When companies collude to lower output (and maximise profits) it creates opportunities for other companies to enter the market so it isn't a good long term strategy. Yes they make good short term growth but over time they will lose market share. That is why Samsung and Co are increasing supply of memory next year after artificially limiting it this year to drive prices up. They don't want Chinese companies springing up to fill the void they are intentionally creating. Same with rare earth minerals in China, they cornered the market years ago but then started making political threats with supply. A lot of previously unviable production sites in the world then became viable again and it turned around to bite the Chinese on the arse.
  21. People normally put them in their garage. If you are looking to get multiple ASICs then you need to consider removing the heat generated and whether your power points in the garage can handle the load (contact a local electrician for advice on how many you can use).
  22. Abilify already has a monthly depot injectible form that doctors use with patients with poor compliance so there isn't a major need, but it could be handy for other medication without these long term depot options.
  23. Got a second set of Corsair 64GB DDR4 3000MHz Red LED (CMU64GX4M4C3000C15R) for the system today. The plan was to fill all 8 dimm slots and have the max 128GB of ram. Problem is that both 64GB kits work fine individually, but the system doesn't post when both kits are used at the same time. Will test them again after the next motherboard bios upgrade... fingers crossed.
  24. Unless running caseless I would be reluctant to use air cooled Vega 64's, especially a 3 slot design which could cramp out air flow. Vega shines at compute and you get your value out of running them 24/7. For that liquid cooling really helps. Currently running 2x MSI Vega 64 Waves (LC) at 100% load in an enclosed case and they don't get above 66 deg C (ambient temps up to 30 deg C). The chance of matching those thermals on an air cooled card seem slim. (Plus the LC is faster).
