  1. weird as hell... have you tried say, a linux boot cd/usb and going into processes there? that would narrow down the hardware or software. idk whats going on really
  2. see whats in details, and expand tasks that are using significant memeroy. if its a svchost.exe process, try ending it and see what happens.
  3. My iPhone 6s recently had a problem where i drained the battery to 0, but then it wouldn't charge after that and would get stuck on the Low Battery screen. The last time it happened, I blasted the phone with heat (some forum said to do it) and it actually worked (have no idea why) and the phone went back to normal. This time, though, that trick didn't work. i tried to put it in DFU mode, held down buttons in various combinations, nothing. Any ideas?
  4. yeah, but media center was preinstalled on this computer, ive never installed media center myself
  5. i have not found much information online concerning upgrade keys. in fact, i only found one tutorial on how to upgrade from home to pro. it seems like not many people take the time to do it where can i get an upgrade key? i cant find where to get/buy one anywhere i have multiple authentic keys at home with me. i dont know why one key would work on multiple computers anyways. sorry about that. also concerning the upgrade itself, it seems as if i cant "cancel" it per se, i dont really need pro i suppose, but if i could get it, i might as well. right now my main priority is just getting to windows.
  6. is anyone familiar with upgrading windows XP home/MC to XP pro? while upgrading i noticed that literally no product key entered would work. ive activated multiple copies of XP with one key, but this is not the case here. for context, the computer originally had windows xp Media Center edition on it. I heard that you can upgrade a home copy to a pro copy with the pro cd. i tried that and while the operating system installs, it seems as if no product key i have will work! none i've found online either. id prefer to keep the files and programs on the drive and not reformat it if possible. I would really like to just get to the desktop and use windows xp.
  7. ah ok. i got the computer from a garage sale and the programs preloaded hadn't been updated since 2010 so its quite possible that it was not used for a very long time. i used the computer for a couple months though with the 1gbx256mb config with zero issues. it just might be an unfortunate case
  8. to be honest, i didnt see any smoke and as far as i could tell, the only thing that burst was that voltage chip. but a cap might have leaked or something i have no idea
  9. yeah, the one stick was branded "edge" while the stock 256mb one (and the 1gb one i added) were branded samsung. now that i think of it, that might have been what happened.
  10. yeah i meant socket 478 sorry. uh, the one clip broke off by accident but ram can still go into it. its basically impossible to put ram in backwards because of its notch so i dont think i put the ram in backwards. i dont actually have the motherboard anymore because it is broken i just wanted possibly more information about how this could have happened.
  11. at what point does it shut down? is it right after the bios flash screen?
  12. So a while ago, I had an old socket 487 motherboard that had fried when I tried to upgrade the ram. The motherboard in question does support 1gb sticks, i had 1gb+256mb in the system originally. However I tried to put a 512mb stick into the slot that the 256mb stick used to be and upon trying to boot, the whole system smelled of smoke. Upon closer inspection it appears that the voltage regulator had blown up and could not power the circuitry for the RAM slots. When i first looked I saw that the 512mb stick was a little bit loose though. Do you think that a loose stick of ram could fry a motherboard? Or is it just that the ram was bad. Has anyone else had experience with this happening?
  13. ive got a 2.0 ghz celeron from 2002 that i overclocked to 2.89ghz. also some nice ddr ram
  14. mine was a hand me down laptop my mom found in a file cabinet. dell inspiron e1505. it had: core duo t2300e 1gb ddr2 667mhz ram intel gma 950 (i think) i got this laptop in early 2015 and used it regularly until late 2017 when it died. i got a better laptop in 2016 that became my main, but that laptop was really special to me and i still have its 80gb hdd in my main laptop. my main laptop holds 2 hdds btw, im not running windows xp as my main anymore.
