  1. I don't understand why Linus always "questions" the numpad scenario on gaming laptops...if the numpad inclusion was so unwanted then they would stop including it as models with it would not sell as much as models without it and companies would take quick notice...everyone I know wants the numpad included (including myself) for one reason or another ( I use both my laptop and desktop for work as well as play and would go nuts if I had to "adapt" to only being able to type numbers with the top row of numbers as I can only touch type numbers and figures with the numpad but not the top row numbers and despise using the top row numbers for this reason). So how many people actually don't want the inclusion of a numpad or does it even bother anyone besides Linus?...honestly just curious for comment outside of my own friends eternal echo chamber lol...
  2. Yeah, I have 3 120mm intake(front), 3 120mm exhaust(1 rear, 2 top) and 2 120mm on the cpu heatsink(front and rear of the heatsink) with both of them positioned as close to the motherboard as possible to get some airflow to the VRMs on the board so I think have PLENTY of airflow and all of them are BIOS controlled off of the tctl sensor under the "performance" setting...if I take off the tempered glass side panel and stick my hand in there I can feel the airflow just fine even when idling so I do not think airflow is my issue here...just weird that a BIOS update made my VRM temps spike like 5c compared to last BIOS...not sure what to make of that
  3. It has to be the BIOS update with the VRM's tho cause it never went above 88c prior to the BIOS update...it just bothers me a little lol
  4. I have never dealt with a BIOS update that I had to use a bridge BIOS first tho, do you think rolling back to a 3.x version is advisable in this scenario? Also, they removed all the previous BIOS versions off the Asrock website except for the 4.5 version so is that because you shouldn't roll back? I still have all the versions released on my BIOS thumbdrive so them not being listed on the site isn't stopping me other than wondering if it will brick my board...
  5. I don't know if I can/should roll back...to get from version 3.x to version 4.x you have to flash a "bridge BIOS" (I have no idea what this is as I have never experienced a "bridge BIOS" before lol) and there were many warnings about having to flash the bridge BIOS before flashing to 4.3 and then 4.5. I am not sure if it is going to brick the motherboard if I roll back which is why I haven't done it yet. I don't want to be the first one to try and then have to buy a new motherboard lol. Everything is fine as (stress testing and passed memtest) long as I leave it at 3066 but as soon as I put it to 3200 I can post and get to the grub screen but as soon as I try to pick either Windows or Kali Linux it just gives me blue screens and critical kernel errors and if I try to go into the BIOS while at 3200 and take too long to set it to 3066 and save and exit it freezes in the UEFI interface and then I have to hard reset...but at 3066 all is well...I have been trying upping the ram voltage, loosening the timings...none of that matters, just have to go back to 3066
  6. Okay, so I have had this system for like 6 months now but just updated the BIOS to the latest 4.5 version (just in case I get tempted into buying a new Ryzen when they launch soon) and I am experiencing some weird things now and was wondering if anyone had the same/comparable Asrock board to confirm some things with me. I can no longer run my Gskill Flare X ram at 3200 without blue screens and some very interesting issues(on previous BIOS it ran at 3200 just fine with no issues)...I now have to downclock to 3066 to get it to boot into either windows or Linux (yes it is a dual boot machine) and I have not changed anything other than upgrading the BIOS to 4.5...I would just flash back to my previous BIOS but it had a "bridge BIOS" I had to flash first to even get the newest BIOS on the board...so I am not sure if flashing back would brick my board or not, not sure if I should risk it. Also, my VRM temps as listed from HWinfo64 used to be under 90c but now they are always between 90-95c...that seems really hot considering I am only running my Ryzen 5 1600 at 3.75ghz with 1.25 volts...which is like babying this chip...is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone know if I attempt to flash back to a previous 3.x BIOS from a 4.x BIOS if it will brick my motherboard? Can anyone else with this board confirm +90c on the VRMs as normal with a very light overclock? Am I just better off leaving my stable overclocks on the cpu and ram as is and not bothering with it again until I pick up a 2nd gen Ryzen chip? Side note: I do love that you can finally set the fans to monitor tctl in the BIOS now(with BIOS version 4.3 and 4.5)...not sure why that feature wasn't there from the damn beginning lol
  7. ram and cpu overclock are stable as f**k....and after looking at some specs on my fans I think I know why my temps are trash right now...the sp 120 quiet edition I am using is only rated at 37cfm at full speed while the fan it comes with on that heatsink is rated at 65cfm with similar static pressure ratings on both so I just ordered the high performance edition of the corsair sp120 rated at 64cfm with twice the mm/h2o rating as the stock fan and capable of 2x the rpm speed so temps should go way down once installed hopefully...thanks for all the info man, much appreciated, cheers!
  8. lol yeah agreed on the thermal compound, I was just refering to the cpu temp graph at my same voltage pretty much with an 8 core ryzen running at 71c max while mine is running at 73c max right now...or maybe that makes sense and I don't need to go through reseating it again...I dunno
  9. Found this on an asian website with my exact board and cooler so maybe I do need to reseat it
  10. eh...2 degree difference with cpu fan maxed...not worth writing home about, maybe I will reseat the cooler later after I stability test it as is with the 3.8 oc and call it a freakin day
  11. Well I am using it with a corsair sp120 fan instead of the fugly 140 low profile one it came with so maybe I just need to ramp up my fan speed....and I have 3 additional sp120 fans set as exhaust (1 rear and 2 top) and then 2 phanteks 140mm for intake on the front so I don't think airflow is my problem but the sp120's are the corsair "quiet" editions so maybe I just need to max my fan settings for the cpu fan...
  12. wish I had read that before rebooting lol, well it wasn't a total loss...realized I still had "cool n quiet" enabled so disabled that at least...back to stability testing and thanks for the tip on the ram testing, be getting to that in a few hours if all goes well here at 3.8ghz with vcore at 1.28something and temps so far are maxing at 75c now...that's better, right? Might be getting an aio at this rate if I want to go any higher than 3.8 I guess
  13. yup just noticed it as well...at 3.7 I only had vcore to 1.27 and it worked like a charm...maybe I will go back down to that instead...grrrrr, or just keep messing with vcore at 3.8
